Gee, the AFL Tribunal has lost the plot. Two incidents where non footy actions, Two punches and a kick get fines. Well **** ME, a kick gets a fine? Piss off. Only **** KICK. HEWETT SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN 5 MATCHES, LACHIE 2 FOR RETALIATING & SICILY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN 8-10 FOR KICKING. THEY ARE NOT FOOTY ACTIONS AND PLAYERS ARE GETTING 7 MATCHES FOR FOOTY ACTIONS

For me the issue with the Daicos carry on is that despite the fact he has some sublime skills, and has racked up some big numbers in a premiership team, I simply don't feel that he's that good.

He punished us a few times in the first quarter the other night, but I just don't think he scares teams the way a Dusty, Fyfe or Dangerfield did. In relation to his peers, he just isn't as damaging as the likes of Rowell, Petracca or Serong. I won't even bring Gulden into it.

That's a pretty high bar don't get me wrong, and he'll be a top 5-10 player for years, but this idea that he's head and shoulders above the rest of the league is ridiculous.
Yep this, personally I'd still have Rowell above him. It's only been Rowells injuries and the fact he doesn't play for Collingwood that he's not fawned over in the same manner.

He was the best player in a team that won a premiership? How's that not damaging?

Because of the way he plays. Compare his performances to Dusty when Richmond were winning flags. Or the was Smith annihilated us a couple of years ago.

There have been years when Lloyd was amongst our best yet he's not a "damaging" player. He plays an important role and plays it well, but there are others you'd take ahead of him.

Daicos does a lot of great things and yes, occasionally he's a difference maker, but week to week I don't think he's really tearing teams apart and you can see that in the way that most sides gameplan for him.

Both are wonderful young players. Rowell is unbelievable.

They’d sure get gigs with us.

I'm Jake Lloyd's biggest fan and I think he's been a gun for a long time, but that he was arguably our best player probably explains why we weren't that great a team during that period. If you're the best player in a team that is beating everyone, including other top teams, then you are doing some serious damage. I really don't see much difference at all between Gulden & Daicos tbh. Their style of play and their attributes as footballers are remarkably similar, albeit I'd take Gulden over Daicos purely for the added hardness and courage that Daicos hasn't quite shown yet.

Is his hype more due to the name or the club , what's the % weighting
Probably a 50/50 split. He’s a very good player and the Pies are a big club.

Compare the hype to that of Travis Boak who is playing his 350th game this week and not much of a mention on the AFL website. Been a fantastic player and loyal to Port when they struggled.

Equally though Harely Reid coverage in WA papers is Daicos like. Eagles even though poor on field are still big off field.

Media like to hook into certain players and the bigger clubs help the narrative to allow their players to feature.

No doubt they will do some variation of what they did with GWS and Gold Coast, with some teams not being impacted at all and some being totally screwed over. And the National Draft being compromised for years.

But they should have an expansion draft for Tasmania.

That way, no team would be impacted more than any other and you wouldn't have to ruin the actual draft for years. Plus Tassie would actually be decent straight away.

I'd rather them use the GWS model. GC's problem was that Scott Clayton had this insane idea of picking every single flanker available. Then they use how much of their cap on Ablett who leaves. Compare that to GWS who got Ward and kept the bloke for good. These solid players are what are important for Tassie. Then go after McKercher massively.

GWS being smarter with how they used their concessions is not the point.

The National Draft was compromised for years because of GWS and GC, and GWS are arguably still benefiting through players or picks they have been able to trade out for more future picks.

Plus GWS were still terrible for their first few seasons.

A proper Expansion Draft would completely remove the need to even touch the National Draft in any significant way. Plus Tasmania would actually be competitive from day 1.

They will be competitive anyway, living in Tassie is a better sell than living in the GC or Western Sydney. It's an AFL mad state. It won't affect us if there are concessions as we have done the bulk of our rebuild anyway we will be just picking role players basically now as we are entering a window. It is another reason why we took a ruck last year. Smart business. The side that it will affect is WCE, they are 5 years away from anything. I hope they get McKercher as their marquee .

Players aren't going to want to go live in Tasmania unless they are from there.

And Victorian clubs having another expansion team to raid every year will impact us.

I'd happily live in Tassie, rather that than GC which is just a retiree city with schoolies once a year. GC has to be the most overrated area. Vic clubs dealing with Tasie is their prerogative, it makes it easier for our retention anyway.

Every person is different, I will say 22yr old me would not have wanted to live in Tassie. 35yr old me would happily live in Tassie.

hmmm

Most fit young AFL players would rather GC.

What we have seen is most players don't want to move states at all, so most want to be in Vic.

Player retention will be the biggest issue for Tassie.

What we have seen is some of the shy types in the NBL like it here, its small, quick to get around and they dont have to deal with anyone, maybe that translate to the AFL somewhat.

But if they drafted say Harley Reid this year , probably ****s off home Asap

I doubt a single GWS player lives in Western Sydney. Most live in Coogee / Bondi

AFL political arm in full swing this week. If LNP re-elected this Saturday then funding for the Devils looks to be locked in. Labor gets up and there are question marks. Roll out $10 membership to reinforce that an AFL team in Tasmania would be a popular electoral decision.

In fairness, Daicos is the media's dream. Famous footy name, plays for the 2nd biggest AFL club ;), he's a gun player and has hit top form very early in his career.

I agree the focus on him is overkill but he's a great player, seems like a great kid, and I'd rather the media celebrate the success of someone who deserves it rather than the sensationalist crap they usually dish up.
This is still sensationalist crap...

That article desperately needs a comic style Daicos seagull surrounded by 49 hot chips
