Aint no party like a diddy party
Can't believe the Giants had a celeb as bartender.

It's a slippery slope isn't it. And I say this without knowing the full facts.
On one hand for the AFL to dish out a $20k fine to Greene just because he is a leader is...strong.
GWS investigated and gave the tick of approval without sanctions. So does the AFL now relieve the GWS board/staff of their duties because of this? Where are the fines for the people that reviewed that? If not, why? Wouldn't giving "that type of behaviour" the green light be just as bad as the "incident" itself?
Again, this was a private event. That doesn't matter if it's at the Casino in a private room. It's a private event. The below were all done in public and nothing was done.

Why wasn't Konstanty fined/suspended for his part in the Mills incident last year? The AFL knew about it and didn't investigate (I didn't see that publicly anyway). You can say it was just a simple accident, but that doesn't matter. The same thing as this, at different degrees by the look of it obviously, but it is all about the AFL brand. Slippery Slope.

Why wasn't Clayton Oliver investigated and suspended/fined when he was running down the middle of a street clearly off his head on drugs damaging cars? Everyone knows about it. The AFL did nothing.

Why wasn't Stengle investigated and suspended/fined for passing out at the nightclub earlier this year? He was rushed to hospital. That was most definitely in the public space. This isn't the first time for Stengle either. AAANNNDD nothing. Dangerfield came out in defense of Stengle and said he made an error in judgement. An error in judgement is passing out at a Geelong nightclub and needing to be taken to emergency by ambulance?

The list goes on and on.
A "private" event in a hotel/casino is still accessible by staff and members of the public (temporarily until someone asks wtf they are doing), unless they had security checking IDs. So it is effectively public.

It's not the same as if it were in someone's house.

Also, it really depends on what was said/done, but this was clearly a work related function, having been attended by staff (reported on), possibly partners and people who work together. So again, not the same as a few of the players just hanging out at home or a player hanging out with non work friends.

Yes, mocking a rape which was apparently quite violent and left the victim bleeding is worth six games.
The mob on Twitter has already started with their "the world's gone woke" diatribe.

Ahh remember the days when rape was funny haha lol cant say shit anymore

Bottom line is its a "costume"
It's more than a costume. I was at a costume party once and someone came dressed as Hitler with all the symbols, my friends took on look at my face (I'm Jewish and proud) and they quickly told the guy to get out. You may think it's a costume, but what those symbols in public mean, and having them spray painted on your fence, or used as hate means so much more.

Its not something i would ever consider doing.

Its edgy and distasteful but again where do you draw the line? what about a mass murderer? or Gacy the Clown?

The question I always ask whenever I see the, "It's just a joke" response to cases like this is... what's the joke?

It's not funny in the most literal sense of the term "not funny." There's no actual joke.

OK so the GWS players' intentions aren't to endorse, make light of or dismiss rape. What's the point of dressing up as Jarryd Hayne then? Hayne is a rugby player, not a comedian. There's no existing gags or memes from the incident or the ensuing trial. There's not a single reason that it's entertaining or humorous at all.

Which then begs the question - what sort of person manages to find something entertaining or humorous in something so dark and devastating in the first place?
