It’s not the most improved award, it’s the coaches award as voted for by all of the other coaches.

The amount of disrespect for Fagan in here is bog average. The lions had a horrific injury list, backs against the wall after just missing out last year and are now in another granny.

Easily a deserving winner of the award.

Not too clever by you there. You see, it’s the AFL coaches that decide the winner.

I realise that but whichever coaches voted for Fagan to be coach of the year won't look too clever if Brisbane loses another GF.

If Brisbane wins the GF you could argue that he was improved his team from last year but if they lose again they are no better.

Seems a bit paradoxical to discredit the award because multi-premiership winning coaches haven't won it before while also making the case that a coach whose team is out of the finals race deserves it ahead of the two coaches actually playing off for a premiership on Saturday.

Fages is a great coach and well deserving. Lions were only half a game and % ahead of Hawthorn at round 9. A similar though slightly less dramatic run home to make finals than Hawthorn, but ultimately Fages got his team through to the big dance where Mitchell didn't.

I didnt realise it was a coaches vote.

So it is a relationship/popularity vote amongst the 18 head coaches..

Fair enough Fages wins it then, he seems like a ripping bloke.

And Clarko + Scott + (seemingly) Mitch seem to have some rough relations around the league for various reasons.

Voted by the other coaches so pretty hard to argue with the format.

Personally thought Mitchell should’ve won but really like Fages and very happy for him - Sam’s time will come.

Also sacrilege for a Hawks fan but have only come to appreciate in the last 2-3 years what an outstanding coach Chris Scott is, hard to believe he’s never won it. His tactical preparation and game day coaching against us at Kardinia this year was brilliant.

What is the format. Fox Sports reported

Fagan was the recipient of 272 votes to beat fellow Grand Final coach John Longmire from the Sydney Swans on 209 votes with Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell third on 161.

So do they 3-2-1 on Grand Final week like they were asked on AFL
360, or 3-2-1 after the end of each round?

That's a lot of 321 votes, so that means ALL the coaches votes, including assistants?
18 coaches x 6 votes is 114 a round. 25 rounds makes it a total of 2850 votes. So Fagan got just under 10% which would seem about right
