The voting system is 4 coaches award each player a mark out of 5 for how they performed their role. Maximum of 20 per game

They are. The scale is insane. 1 is adequately performing your role, and 2 is something like a strong performance, with 3 already requiring a dominant performance. The next two levels are above dominant!! Think there's only been 2 games over the last 6 or so years that have got perfect votes. One of them was Fyfe, the other was Walters getting 30+ and kicking 6.

They are. The scale is insane. 1 is adequately performing your role, and 2 is something like a strong performance, with 3 already requiring a dominant performance. The next two levels are above dominant!! Think there's only been 2 games over the last 6 or so years that have got perfect votes. Okay, I maybe slightly overstated it, but anything above 3 votes from a coach is pretty rare. This is how it was explained in 2015 (when they had 5 coaches voting):

Doig Medal voting criteria:

Following each match, the five club coaches give each player a vote from zero to five based on the player’s performance.

5 votes – Outstanding – elite performance
4 votes – Excellent – exceptional influence on the match
3 votes – Very good – strong contribution that influenced the match
2 votes – Good – fulfilled the role and made a solid contribution
1 vote – Fair – fulfilled the role asked
0 votes
