Was at a barbie for the races had an interesting chat with an old friend who's a talent scout at the Bloose. He was pretty straight faced and matter of fact when talking about Lalor, FOS, Draper, Smith. He was getting pretty pickled and told me a few interesting tidbits. He LOVES Smillie and reckons we'd be stupid to trade for pick 2. I thought I was smart and asked if he'd let the cat out of the and they're taking Smillie, he said they reckon Cripps is that professional and dedicated if he avoids serious injury he will overtake Craig Bradley's games record so the timings and draft hands don't allign.

He reckons Langford will be the slider who might even fall outside the top 15. Same as Trainor he reckons clubs are spooked big ti.e over his concussions and i was shocked when he rattled off all the retirements. He says he wouldnt touch him inside the top 30 as already too risky. He said the most overrated player is Tauru and its only North hedging their bets as he's a swing man and if he's available at 6 Tigers wouldn't take him and rattled off all the reasons Shanahan and Armstrong are better. He reckons if no pick swaps happen we'll take 2 mids with 1st 2 picks and reckons Smillie at 6 is a steal. Also reckons travaglia is over rated. He said Ashcroft is universally considered the best player in the draft. Also reckons Lombard will get bid on very early in the draft in the top 8 and should be top 5. Was spewing we barely got started talking about the talls and kept getting interrupted by the races and his Mrs who hates footy talk. He was running interesting hypotheticals with who blinks 1st with taking talls but kept losing his train of thought.

He's convinced Saints take 1 KPF, was pretty sure Melbourne take 2 mids. Wowee the gossip about Melbourne. Theyre a rabble and gonna implode. I might check their odds for bottom 4 next year lol. He said Port Adelaide will take best available. Reckons GWS are hard to read and antisocial. Also said Vic clubs have all been lobbying against GC academy, he reckons they've got a production line of 12, 13, 14, 15 yo's coming through and they want change before 2025 draft but reckon the AFL will be forced to act after it. He said Freo were filthy on us as we wouldn't budge ensuring WCE get Bo Allen. This guy our kids went to school together and after the Shai Bolton draft wouldn't shut up about how he fought for Bolton over Fisher but the go home factor was the decider. He reckons Bolton is gonna go berserk in Freo and is backing him for the Brownlow.

I'm catching up with him again hopefully before the draft as I'm dying to pick his brains just got to get my ex to run interference talking about kids schooling and shopping and chick bollocks for me lol. If I get him Johnnie Walker Blue he'll let me watch some of his footage (on mute 😡🤬) I will say this I'm shocked by how unsuccessful the Blues are by how well they look after their employees/ players/ past players/ families.
What about Lalor . Jagga and FOS

who is the #1

Carlton are the Kings of spin.. Don't believe their shite.

Think that Carlton recruiter is taking the piss. Talk I've heard is Similie is the slider. Man child that will get exposed at senior level. From a recruiter also....

I've known this guy since our kids went to childcare, kindie and primary school together. Used to be really close, drifted since different high schools. He's a straight shooter and I've wiped the floor with him at cards plenty of times. He even said their night is basically Camporeales and they're hoping it goes their way for their 1st pick but pretty happy with the evenness of the top handful but wasn't giving anything away. Once their pick 3 is selected their draft is basically over waiting for bids and he had no ulterior motive to bull💩 me.

Hey it's all a crap shoot. Nobody knew Fyfe, Bont, Cripps would turn out having the careers they had. Who knows which teams get most focussed on and ignored by our recruiters. Wasn't long ago it seemed we'd basically only take kids from Northern Knights, St Pats, WA team? Ellis and Menadue flops from Western Jets ruled them out. We started taking Oakleigh kids. Always wondered if our recruiters bother watching Geelong Falcons as they're top 3 for most kids drafted and don't think we've ever taken any?

Full season highlights for Jagga Smith, the most consistent performer in this years draft pool. He was a relentless accumulator of the footy no matter the opponent or the level he played at, and displayed some elite AFL level attributes along the way. He may not ultimately end up being taken at pick 1, but he's the most risk free of the elite prospects at the pointy end of the pool.

Top end speed is super deceptive anyway especially in a match situation

Jack Graham was regularly our fastest player by the gameday gps data but if it takes a player 50m to reach that speed it’s useless

Short acceleration speed (IE Dusty) is much more important especially for midfielders
That’s true.
It took Dusty quite a few preseasons to get to the level he could use that speed for repeat efforts.
McAullife, has definitely got that short acceleration speed, but he’s behind the eight ball with his endurance.

I think this draft for all its midfield depth, doesn’t have a lot of this type of player. Draper is the standout, and a couple of other later picks. Hotton is quick, but more a hybrid hf/wing.

RFC are not going to accept to future rubbish futures from Essendon for Josh Smillie, surely we are not that batshit crazy
Just finished watching it, why in the **** would we do that lol, this guy just lost all credibility. He spent a chunk of time saying how shit next years draft is looking then pulls this doozy.

Absolutely
Those burst efforts are super taxing it’s about players learning when to use them for maximum impact as well

Generally speaking even a peak player can really only get away with a full belt breakaway 2 or 3 times a qtr
If they do more it leaves them nothing in the tank later even if they are fit

We saw it a few times with MRJ who when he played this year really started to pick his moments for maximum effect

it makes sense in his scenario given we'd have already drafted Lalor and FOS. We'd trade 10 to essendon for their own and melbourne 1st round picks in 2025, that's a pretty favourable deal for us.

nope, you are not going to get the equivalent players in 2025, in that range.

if you want to burn draft picks burn later ones

I will give you an example, trade up for Saints 7 or 8, trade up for a GWS pick etc... make it so they have trouble refuse if we have to

Still a long way out to make any real determination on the quality of next years draft, there are question marks on the depth but usually the top end in most drafts are pretty relaible, and both essendon and melbourne could finish in the bottom half, maybe even bottom 5.

We also don't have to use the draft picks exclusively in the draft we could use them to go hunting players like freo did this year. Cadman, Butters, JUH etc

I tend to agree. Why would we trade out pick or whatever he said it would be. flipping madness.
Smilie and Armstrong still on the board and we trade out.

That is why we're holding pick 24 to trade into next year. That's when we'll get one of the Bombers first rounders 2025.

11 and 20 for 7 is too much, Saints would jump at it

Swap 20 for 23, and North will want us to promise we do not take Tauru

7 and 18 is too much for 2 to, 7 and 20 better.

so left with 1+2+6+13+18+24+29
you have heard it from me before s upid the letter missing is t

That's a good point didn't think of that, but neither did he.
