Don't trade with North for 2, force them to take Tauru there, they literally have no other options to trade down with. If they have to take Tauru there then one of FOS, Smith, Draper or Langford is there at 6, thats assuming we take Lalor first pick. This also assumes that Dees don't take Armstrong at 5 which I wouldn't be surprised if they did because he won't get past Saints at 7/8.

If North take Tauru at 2 its highly likely Smith is still available at our pick 6.
Or we trade up to pick 2 and select the best two kids in the land and only have to sacrifice pick 18.
I'd rather the ability to get a FOS/Smith at 2 on top of Lalor at 1 than playing chook lotto at pick 6.

a touch sensitive 🤔 for a guy that calls a kid a soft ****?
I'm not sensitive at all. Why make it personal? If you or anyone else want to convince me that JUH is anything but soft then do so. I invite you to put forward your argument and I will not respond by calling you something derogatory. You're entitled to your opinion.

With all this talk of Richmond possibly drafting a forward such as Cadman, JUH and others in the future, I started watching them more closely, all be it TV. I noticed JUH regularly when under the incoming ball would move to avoid contact. I considered this soft and immediately dismissed him as the wrong type. I do understand he's still young and probably not fully developed but I'm all in for blokes who stand their ground and are aggressive, especially early in their careers. I'll watch more of him next year and you never know, may change my stance. Right now though I still see him as the wrong fit. Cadman projects as the better player.

100% I really hope we don't get sucked into the romance of pick 2. Sure, make a play but I really don't want us to lose pick 6 and that's highly unlikely so i hope we give it a wide birth.

We have some really good late gold 1st round picks that a few teams who don't have any picks in the first round would love to get back in. We could use it to our advantage.

Take Futures from teams that want to get back into the 1st round, then take 1st rounds with those future picks from any teams who might need those futures for next years changed rules on F/S & academies.

Going into the deep end again, but I reckon this kid is a talent.

----

Will Hayes is an intriguing talent who hasn't always found consistent form this year but has more than enough about him to have clubs interested come the November draft. This was one of his best performances for the season showing his lovely turn of pace, agility to dodge and weave around opponents, strong disposal skills and the moxie to take the game on with attacking and decisive play.

Yep, that’ll be the concern for Norf. I think they will approach us to trade for 2, given our draft hand, rather than us having to chase them

No win/win in that situation. As we don’t need to trade up to two as we are guaranteed a gun at six if they pick Tauru. I’d want ‘overs’ (perhaps a two for six swap coupled with our next years second rounder). Again we get gun either way.

We don't know FOS/Lalor/Smith are the best in the land. The question is 1 player v 2 players. Is one of FOS/Lalor/Smith worth possibly 2 others in the top 20, one of which is Pick 6 and could be one of the players mentioned anyway? 50/50 in my opinion.

Pondering the key forwards.

Goes without saying we need them, but do we really need to take 2 of the top key prospects this draft like some may think? We’re not completely void of them in the list already. The problem is they just aren’t good enough. Could we just select someone like Jonty Faull at 18/20/23/24 and look to select a number one key forward at #1 next year?

I’m not sure whether Armstrong, Shanahan or Jonty end up being #1 key options, maybe best suited to the #2 roles. Could be wrong, just some thoughts.

Agree, i would just take one for now, it's not like we are going to compete for the flag in 2025. We also have a few players on our list already that are only just starting out or haven't had a crack at it. E.G. Bauer, Fawcett
I'd rather we get maximum value from this year's midfield draft then work on the other parts of the list as we go along.

I agree - with 1 and 6 we get 2 of Jagga, FOS, Langford, Draper, Lalor, Smillie - we cant lose and we keep 10,11,18 for a HB runner/distributer, best avail KPF and best avail mid or small fwd. Keep 20-24 for speccies like whitlock, hynes, datoli

WHO THE TIGERS COULD TAKE IN DRAFT'S FIRST ROUND

Chris Cavanagh examines the players in Richmond's sights with bumper national draft hand

PICK 1: SAM LALOR
GWV REBELS

Rival clubs believe Lalor is the favourite to be this year’s No. 1 pick. The Bacchus Marsh local battled some injury issues this year, but is a powerful and damaging midfielder-forward who has long tried to model his game on players like Dustin Martin and Jordan De Goey. With Dusty having sailed into retirement, the Tigers could certainly do with another player like that.

PICK 6: JOSH SMILLIE
EASTERN RANGES

A big-bodied midfielder with strength and power, Smillie measures 195cm and tries to play like AFL stars Patrick Cripps and Tom Green. Smillie says he’s a born leader, he can change games with his clearance work and he can also go forward and hit the scoreboard. The Tigers identified Smillie and Lalor as two key players of interest very early this year and might be able to secure both.

PICK 10: TOBIE TRAVAGLIA
BENDIGO PIONEERS

A running machine who finished second in the 2km time trial at the draft combine, this 187cm prospect has starred as a rebounding defender at halfback but can also have a run through the midfield. He’s reliable one-on-one and is a fierce competitor who looks up to Hawthorn’s Will Day. Travaglia could team up nicely with Tom Brown coming out of the Richmond defence in coming years.

PICK 11: LUKE TRAINOR
SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS

Some scouts saw this 194cm defender as a top-six pick earlier in the year, but he has since slid down the order a touch and could be available to the Tigers here. A former forward, Trainor has become a strong interceptor who takes the game on. The grandson of football great Doug Wade, he models his game on Tom Stewart but has also drawn some comparisons to Jordan Ridley. Trainor could be a perfect third-tall intercept defender alongside the likes of Noah Balta and Josh Gibcus.

PICK 18: TAJ HOTTON
SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS

Out: Shai Bolton. In: Taj Hotton? OK, they’re a little bit different, but both bring great speed, creativity and scoreboard impact in the front half, while also being capable of adding a spark during onball rotations. Hotton is unlikely to play again until at least next June, after suffering an ACL injury earlier this year. But he had started this season on fire and is a unique prospect inside the top-20 group. His older brother Olli was drafted to St Kilda in 2022.

PICK 20: JACK WHITLOCK
MURRAY BUSHRANGERS

Richmond really needs another young key forward, with Jack Riewoldt retired and Tom Lynch nearing the end. Could it be Whitlock? He’s 200cm, is very mobile for his size, has strong hands overhead and kicks goals. The full forward in the Coates Talent League Team of the Year, Whitlock has drawn comparisons to Max and Ben King.

PICK 23: MATT WHITLOCK
MURRAY BUSHRANGERS

The twin of Jack, Matt is marginally shorter at 198cm but was equally impressive this year. He is a genuine swingman who has featured in key posts at both ends of the ground and is more than happy playing wherever the coach puts him. Like Jack, Matt is mobile, has an exceptional leap and displays strong hands overhead. The twins have said that they expect to be separated and are “ready for that”, but it could be a smart move for the Tigers to keep them together in the hope they become bookends for the next 10 or 12 years.

PICK 24: JESSE DATTOLI
NORTHERN KNIGHTS

This will be the first pick of night two of the draft, which is often highly sought-after if a player slips through night one that a club is desperate to secure. However, if the Tigers keep the selection and there are no shock drifters, they should look at a player like Dattoli. A half-forward who can also impact in the midfield, he is a creative ball user who can change the momentum of games. The Tigers have history of drafting players from the Northern Knights and Dattoli is the best the club has to offer this year.
I’d trade 6&11 to get FOS instead of smilie and Trainor

Outside of Travaglia this group is as slow as pudding guts Graham

mate give it a rest, you used the word moron. I am so sorry for not checking all 234 pages of the post. people are dying in gaza and this is all you can do. get perspective.
Hahahaha, you don't need to read all 400 pages, only the posts your replying to mate. If someone give a trade scenario to move up picks and then do their drafting plan, having a person say "hur dur we don't have that pick" is a bad look on you.

Also what do people in Gaza have to do with this? Get a perspective, children in West Africa are being mutilated and forced into child soldier armies. See how ridiculous that is?

Its a question I still cant decide on and am glad its not up to me

I agree - with 1 and 6 we get 2 of Jagga, FOS, Langford, Draper, Lalor, Smillie - we cant lose and we keep 10,11,18 for a HB runner/distributer, best avail KPF and best avail mid or small fwd. Keep 20-24 for speccies like whitlock, hynes, datoli

Last time we waited to get the dregs of tier/group of draftees in the first round we got Ben Lennon.

No point being passive and hoping the supposedly even top group last picked is a gun. Get the one you think has the most upside.

Langford looks to be a a general, flexible, all-round gun footballer - size, marking, kicking, accumulation.

I would pick him over Smith/Smilie/Draper/Reid.

I am leaning towards a O'Sullivan/Langford combo as the best outcome for our first 2 picks (Even if we have 1/2 )

O'Sullivan
Langford
Running Man - Lindsay/Travaglia (Or Both!)
Tall Forward/KP - Best Available
Best Small Forward/Mid - Berry/Dattoli/Hannaford//Alger
So, if we find ourselves at Pick 6 and have Langford and Smilie on the board.... who do we take?

I do like Langford, has a lot of Bont attributes - not crazy quick but nor is Bont.

I’d trade 6&11 to get FOS instead of smilie and Trainor
6 & 11 is giving too much, 6 & 18 or nothing.

North are over a barrel, they have pick 2 then 68. They want Tauru then 6 & 18, they can take him at 2, but they wont.

Ether way 1= Lalor/FOS & 6= Langford/Smilie/Smith, we cant lose either way or 1= Lalor & 2= FOS/Smith.

I say keep 1 & 6, if North & Melb take mids & 2 and 5, at Pick 10 we will have better chance to get Tauru/Armstrong/Shanahan.

if not we have better quality mids to choose from 1,6,10. Then grab 1 tall at 11.

The more I think about it and the type of player in the Top 6, we re better off to keep 1 & 6, then we choice with 10&11, needs picks with 18, 23 & 24 (which we could move into next year- not sure why if the crop is better this year)

I trust in Blair Hartley, with work he has done so far !!
