breathing air, not smoking a thing

if we use 7 picks instead of 8, I can live with that
Can see us using 6 picks on the night, using 1 to trade into future draft and 1 combined with another to move up somewhere on the night (either Saints pick or North if we get a deal we love - like 11 & 23, F2 for 2 + F1). So we may end up with 1, 2, 6, 8, 10 and 24 or something like that. Trade Saints 8 for 18 and 20.

Not really sure it happens but if we end up with 5 picks inside the top 10 or 11, we'd love that, especially if we can have 3 first round picks secured for next year which could easily include two in the first 4 or 5....

If no North trade, then 1, 6, 8, 10, 11, 23, and trading a F1 in is also a great haul...

There's a presumption here that he had it in the first place

I don’t think Jagga Smith will fall to 14, but I do think he’ll slide.

I think that is also the way the top 5 will go (regardless of whether North trade pick 2).

But the real thing I think it highlights is that the first 12 ‘live’ picks are owned by six teams, and from 5-11 by three teams. This is important because I suspect that all three will take a midfielder with their first pick after five, and then with their second pick a more positional player.

So if Melbourne Richmond and St Kilda all have a midfielder ahead of Smith at 5,6 and 7, he could easily slide outside of the top 10. I also suspect that all three would prioritize a big midfielder primarily.
Yeah. So if you look at the picks in my post, you're actually agreeing he gets to 14 if what you say could happen happens?

Absolutely got no idea
Oh, no. Whoever the **** Anusberry is thinks I have no idea. Whatever will I do.

What's next years draft meant to be like at the top end?

I don't think we'd do a trade for 8 for the exact same reasons that the Saints want to trade out of it, that's IF they want more picks, they could well be positioning themselves for a crack at 2

Yep…. Saints do 8 for 18 and 20. Then do 7 and 20 for 2.

So they turn 7 and 8 into 2 and 18.

North would do that in a heartbeat as they’d get Tauru at 7 and then have a great extra pick. Saints would do it as gets one of the premium mids and is 18 much worse than 8 in this draft? Could be Hotton or Lindsay instead of Reid…. coin toss.

For this reason I don’t think we should do it. I’d prefer 18 and 20 over 8 in this draft. 23 and 24 for 8.….. sign me up.

Then we pick Tauru at 6 lol

Just listened to Jake King on Dyl and Friends. How good was the king? He was so under rated as a footballer because he was a scrapper and such a tough bastard. Kicked quite a few goals on the run from 50. Reckon he'd thrive in today's game (when he wasn't suspended).

He was shit to be honest and the exact type of player that holds a list back. Good enough to hang around but never a premiership calibre player.

As obvious as it is to say, depends on who is there at pick 8.

I don’t think we will see any trading of first round picks between now and draft night. There may be some trades for the later rounds after tomorrow (being the final list lodgment before draft which will determine how many picks each team takes to the draft) but nothing in the first round.

If someone like Jagga Smith is available or even a Tauru, I can definitely see GWS swing the worth of trading 15 and 16 to do it.
The risks are all on the downside trading before daft night. One single unanticipated pick and you either miss your guy or pay too much.

Even North tading for 6 could become a cluster **** at Pick 5.

Hear me out. There's a world in which we trade 10 and 18 for pick 2 and Norf still get Tauru and Armstrong. This is where the evenness of this draft works for both of us.

Unless you don’t trade with Saints until pick 8 is on the clock and pick 2 is in the books (and 7 for that matter)

GWS won’t bundle up until they know who’s available and Saints, like us, won’t be sliding until we’re on the clock and teams are desperate.

Firstly, thank you for finally including me in a RATD multi-quote post. It’s been a long time coming.

But yes, I would agree with you that there is a world where Smith would fall to 14, albeit I think it’s unlikely.

I think as soon as he got past 7 you’d have a few teams making calls to Melbourne/ St Kilda and Richmond offering generous trade offers to move up (possibly back in but suspect it’ll be to move up).

It would need all three teams to have a midfielder rated above Smith (not impossible, Smillie, Reid, Travaglia [if you see him developing similar to Will Day], Lindsay [if you buy the inside mid work at CTL at the back end of the year] and possibly Bo Allen) and all teams to effectively keep their picks.

Personally I think he goes at 7 to the Saints at the worst, but could freefall if he doesn’t.

Saints can't do Jack shit unless we're not gunning for 2.
Which means the Saints would have too do a deal with us that is unbelievable in our favour as Blair would see it.
7 & 8 for ?????
