For those more educated than myself does Lalors hammy injury cool the jets on wanting to take the punt on him or is his ceiling that high it’s just worth taking the stab with pick 1

Wouldn’t taking FOS who also looks to have a very heigh ceiling be the better option for pick one that still carry’s a degree of risk but without that soft tissue storm cloud lingering

We have Hammy McGee PhD on board rather than Machete Meehan which gives me confidence we've done our due diligence.

The Lalor type player is the most difficult "piece" (hi richoatthedisco) to find in a midfield build so can see why you just grab him and run.

I remember Judd didn’t go 1 due to concerns on his shoulder. I think you pick your highest rated player regardless of any injury concerns. They are 18, plenty of time to sort their bodies out in a good high performance program.

this means Saint Kilda have to pick one of Smith and or Reid or not

The Saints might pick a KPP


who are Melbourne going to pick?? If they pick SMillie who do they pick 9? If they pick Langford who do they pick at 9?? other possibilities to.

the point is 6 gets us a reasonably good prospect and a good chance at another at 10/11 potentially.

The other thing is what do the Saints want for 7 or 8?? we will know more live draft night from who is left by then to

You are really making things up here
Melbourne were also in the race to get pick #20 with the points they gave up 1657 points for the St Kilda trade but without the F1.

The only thing we could offer was the extra pick to beat the points Melbourne offered
And the " Threat of the bid" which is a dream BF members think is real

I’m not making things up. I’m not doubting the other offers. I just think we paid far too much and should have walked away. There were other deals to be done.

Hamstrings in kids are nothing. Kids recover from soft tissue injuries easily.
Be different if it was a knee, and even then you had guys like Richo come back and crush it.

Yeah it’s it’s not so much that fact he got injured it’s more that it was a soft tissue

My assumption is probably completely wrong but I’ve always kind of assumed that once you have that first soft tissue injury you are essentially a higher risk of getting a repeat of the same or similar kinds of injuries and because he has copped this one so young my (probably unfounded assumption ) is that we are taking more of a risk with a player who is injury prone if that makes sense

But even as I’m writing this I guess I can look back at guys like Grimes who’s early career was plagued with soft tissue injuries but once it was properly sorted he never really had any issues again in that department for the rest of his career

So it’s probably about finding the underlying cause and trying to eliminate it be it running technique or strengthening, whatever and working through it

Still very much a fan of Lalor at pick 1 but just trying to go through the pros and cons of the potential candidates for myself

Personally I am not very high on Armstrong or Tauru.

Armstrong is very one dimensional and played in quality teams all year that gave him silver service. He’s undersized and not a crazy athlete.
He’s a no for me.

Tauru is nice athlete. But his decision making is just plain bad. His execution of skills under pressure was something that was really suspect aswell. A lot of people on here are claiming the Alex Rance

comparisons which is fair to an extent. The hard part for Tauru is that Rancey had the mentality of an absolute warrior and the most determined competitive instinct I’ve ever seen. His drive on the training track was all time.
These attributes aren’t measured at combines and are going to be extremely rare to find. So the likely hood that Tauru can develop this isn’t likely.

Personally I’ve always fallen back on the one thing that can not be taught or trained. And that’s height and size.
Whitlocks have this and the combo of agility skill and size is really exciting.

Gerryn is also a really underrated prospect and is in my personal top 15.
