28 & 31 will go when the bid happens though. If we did it before the bid then 18 gets used.
Only way to get around this which i thought about the other day is to trade #28 + #31 for our F2 prior to the bid
with the agreement to trade #18 for their F1 after the bid and Kako becomes a Bombers player
They could then take the #18 and trade our picks for later picks in this year

By unbalanced I mean after losing Rioli, Bolton and Baker, and with Prestia and Short both getting worse at kicking, we now have the slowest, worst disposal team in the modern era.

So you want to replace our fast, good kicking HBF, HFF (who was notoriously an indifferent kick) and utility, all of whom are not midfielders, with (I’m assuming based on your original reply) two midfielders in Draper, the worst kick in the top 6, and Jagga the shortest and least damaging kick in the top 6, who is not super quick.

If we end up playing Lalor in the forward half near year (where he won't see the ball) and pick a slow stoppage player like Langford then that'll remain the case. It'll stunt the development of the kids having such a stoppage-based team besides making us unwatchable.

Go look at the best stoppage sides each year this century, a team who averages top 4 stoppages in a season is just as likely to finish bottom 4 as top 4. Comparatively the grand final teams every season have been top 4 for scores from turn overs, it has a far greater correlation with winning games of football over stoppages.

Besides Jagga and Draper will only be part time mids next year too, they’ll play HFF most of the year. Very few first year players get big midfield minutes.

Langford isn’t just a stoppage player he is an unbelievable transition player with his endurance and is a far superior kick to both Jagga and Draper.

My point is you need to play them, so you can't just draft 6 midfielders. Also I think it's pace and outside class we're desperately missing, not endurance running.

6 mids??? What are you on about? Nowhere did I say draft 6 mids.

If you want pace and outside class it’s all there in one player, FOS. He also goes inside, forward and back.

If you want class (which I assume is code for good skills and decision making) I’d argue that Smillie, Langford, Lindsay and Reid are all far superior to Draper and as good as Jagga with short stuff but destroy him with penetration and hurt factor.

It's not just JH and TT. We have Ross, McAuliffe and Dow who are all slow. Obviously it sucks having a bunch of slow mediocre mids but drafting better versions of them isn't the way out.

IMO if we're going Lalor we should rule out Langford and only get Smillie if he slides.

McAuliffe and Ross both have sub 3 second 20m so both are faster than Jagga, Draper didn’t test. And honestly could careless about them as future mids. They were picks in the 40s for a reason, if they become good role players that’s a bonus.

We shouldn’t rule out anyone and instead just pick the players we think will be best in 5 years not next year. The team is virtually a blank slate, no one outside maybe Gibcus looks like being a future top 20 player in the comp. We are at the beginning of a rebuild not in middle, we’re going to be shit next year no matter what. Pretending we need to balance an awful midfield is prioritising a quick fix, something that’s has failed for Carlton, Essendon and St Kilda as they sit around enjoying mid table mediocrity.

Even the way the place is pronounced isn’t super consistent

The guy who it was named after was pronounced law-ler but the common way to say the place these days is lay-lor but both get thrown around
Having picked up the mail at lalor plaza every day for about 16 years no one says lawlor everyone says layla as if the R is silent
It's like Saint Albans.. everyone pronounces it
Snalbins
Local dialect always wins

The Tigers wouldn't be so stupid to pick Tauru at 6 and every other list manager knows it.
Your midfield needs at least two potential guns from this draft and you ain't getting them after pick 6.

If you can't get 2, who do you take at #1?

Me? Difficult to decide between Lalor, FOS and Jagga. Each does different things. It's a whole thing that matters, and assembling the best package is what matters.

Absolutely. The performance of our draftees in 2025 is irrelevant. Just pick for players who will be very good AFL players in 5+ years.

And try to pick a group who are well rounded and will provide us with the ability to play a range of styles. So don't do the GWS thing of picking the best mids all the time. End up with too many good mids and a poorly balanced team. took them years ot work that one out. Traded out Hopper and TT cause they had too many good pure mids.

That's why if we could get Lalor, FOS and Jagga I'd be stoked. All likely to be good, and 3 different types who work well with one another.

Getting that first possession out of contest is the key to winning games. not winning the first possession. If you find someone who gets that first possession and sets up the next one then they are worth gold and jewels. So build a midfield first, and build it to move the ball from contests.

Any news on pick 2??? Or dead in the water

I suspect that it hasn't changed. We want pick 2 on our terms. Our terms are that we don't damage our overall draft hand to get pick 2.

We were talking to the Saints, which I imagine is to see if we can get 1,2, 6 through some trades, with our later 1st rounders still intact.

And that the AFL will want newsworthy trades on draft night. So possibly this is already sorted out, and we'll find out on the night. ... 2 weeks of

With the exception of Hopper, they are definitely NOT slow!
20m times: TT 3.00, Ross 2.95, KMc 2.93. They are all quick times, KMc elite. Dow was 3.06 which is ave but has elite agility. For comparison, Jagga was 3.04 and FOS 2.99.
So the question is why do they look slow? Is our system not supporting them to spread quickly, or is it slow to get ball to foot or decision making? Don’t know but it’s something other than foot speed.
