I think if we were desperate for a top end pick, we would have traded Baker and pick 11 to west coast for pick 3. I think we need to keep our early pick to free up picks 23 or 24 for trade for future picks. Let's say we could trade one for Essendon's future 1st. Worst case Essendon win the GF next year (Hey they are delusional enough to believe it) and we break even. Best case Essendon finish bottom four (most likely scenario) and we make a killing. I'm not sure who the other bunny would be. North would be the safest bet but maybe Geelong and Collingwood would be good options as well.
Melbourne pick from Essendon.

Calling it a weak draft a year out is just not right.

Look at this year, apparently no key position talent a year ago now there is about 6-8 that will go in the top 25.

Port won't trade for 10 unless they know their targeted player is available @10
The North trade would have to happen first.

I guess we will swap for pick two if our recruiters see a very clear gap in quality between who we will get at 6 vs 2. Based on limited information I would do it and grab Draper. He looks the best player with Ashcroft as of right now. Jagga just behind.

The thing I do like about Lalor is that his defensive capabilities are listed as strengths. It's crucial we draft players who can dispose the ball well and can be competitive/win contested situations.

The recruiting staff aren't looking at who is best right now. They are trying to predict who will be best in 5 years time.

This guy just screams " BEAST"

When i watch him i see a Hawkins /Tex type foward that can Ruck and become an enforcer
Pick #20 im in
Really like the Kayle ‘THE BEAST’ Gerreyn.
Just hard to place WA performances. Had some dominant games in the colts but not so much in his 2 WAFL games. Would he thrive in Melbourne?
I’m a Sims fan. Very much still growing into his body but athletic, strong hands and check out his shoulders! He will put on size and strength. Could be the big dog forward. Still take Armstrong or J Whitlock before him but @ #23 or later, happy days.

**** that

Those are Dan Menzells words you are quoting
Bloke has so many surgeries he wouldn’t know his knee from his elbow

Any deals that are to be made it must be in our favour as we hold the whip hand. If north don't agree all good no deal. Pick 6 as we know is not on the table and if we are to acquire pick two starting pics for a trade need to be from 10 onwards.

We are a position of strength because if we don't deal, we have our eight pics and four in the first 11

Apparently North knocked back 6 + 20 and Richmond knocked back 2 + F1 for 6 +11. Goes to show how clubs value the top 12-15 players in this year's draft.

I can see the logic in offering 6 + 20 for 2. If we offered 18 instead of 20 then North and Sydney could grab the player Richmond had earmarked in that range. I suspect that it is a tall we are looking at drafting at pick 18.

North may reconsider if they don't get a better offer. We can still trade pick 10 to Port for 13 + 29
1,2,11,13,18,23,24,29

Would have trade out at least one of 23,24 or 29 as there is only 7 list spots.

When its ’go time’ North would accept 6 and 20 for 2. They’ll get Tauru and Whitlock instead of just Tauru.

I think it’ll end up being a 3-way trade that ends up with us retaining 6, but effectively giving away 10 and 11 for 2 and a F1 from Roos.

Cal said again on SEN that the only move he sees us doing is moving one of our later picks into next year, on draft night.

Also said recruiters think 1 is between Lalor and FOS. Interesting he’s not ruling out FOS at 1. Brought up it’s not the first time we’ve not been sure on who’s going 1, and pointed to the 2014 draft where it was a race between Petracca and McCartin, where it was only really known the Saints were going McCartin at pick 1, just 2 days before the draft

With our seemingly willingness to trade with Port for their 13 and 29 for our 10, we've obviously earmarked someone we are confident will be still available at 13 and thus allowing us to pick up 29 for "free". That tells me it could be a bit of a bolter. Who do we think we have in mind? Jack Whitlock? Harry Oliver perhaps? Faull?

Melbourne pick from Essendon.

Trade 10 to PA for 13 & 29
Trade 6 and 13 to Nth for 2 & F1
Trade 11 & 29 for ESS F1 & Mel F1

2024 picks
1,2,18,20,23,24

2025 picks
Rich F1,Nth F1, Ess F1, Mel F1, Ric F2

Will never happen for the following reasons;
1.we have 8 list spots to fill
2. FOS is not worth losing 6,10 &11 in the scenario above
3. Blair says we will use our picks, we swap only 23 into next year
4. Nest year is a much weaker draft after pick 10

If we are prepared to put 6 on the table to get pick 2 we should consider the following:

Pick 6 and 10 for 7 and 8.
Pick 7 and 18/20 for pick 2.

If the mail was true about us having interest in Armstrong this is potentially a really good trade for us. You either get a top 6 midfielder or Armstrong at pick 8 if North take Tauru at 7.

Where has it been stated we are willing to trade 10 for 13 and 29? Apart from Bigfooty heresay?
