Best part of Bomber's meth bender was him breaking it off with his partner and declaring his love for lady boy from Thailand. #brave
The partner was his wife by then. I lived in the same street, our front doors were probably 20 metres apart. I missed the warrant execution bit - these things are generally executed at 6AM, but it was good fun having the media camped around for the next day or so. One stuck a microphone in my face and asked what my thoughts were, and I got on at least two TV stations news promos. Sort of “Community devastated by arrest of AFL coaching great” and then there is footage of me saying “it’s pretty shocking”.

I don’t know why I was shocked. The rumours scandals threads had been onto this for 12 months by then.

Inspiring. You're leading communities outside of BigFooty too.

I do my best.

Somehow the amazing part of all of this was that it took so long for Foxtel to remove him. He wasn’t following the game even remotely, was spouting nonsense and a few times was very obviously off his face.

I rather liked Bomber. I thought he was a pretty good TV person before the wheels went right off. I did get a bit tired of his trying to bum cigarettes off me at the tram stop though

I remember the feigned shock in the media when it all blew up was amusing. Funny how your dirty laundry only gets aired once you're out of the club.

He was long out though. Oh maybe not? I forgot his Essendon stint which wasn’t so long before this stuff all kicked off. But every single person in those studios must have been entirely aware of what was happening. And I doubt a ruthless company like Foxtel would struggle to axe a person making abstract remarks in commentary then giggling unnervingly. He must have had mates shielding him or something.

Must have been 2018, possibly 2017, when I recall a 360 episode where Whately asked him whether Melbourne could be a chance that year. He literally said yes. Then said no. Then said I don’t know, how are they going so far? It was then that I started noticing that he wasn’t watching games, and not just ours, and was collecting pay as a football expert. Amazing.

JT saying "Harvey Langford will be our next preferred midfielder" ... wonder who it was that we really wanted to fall to us.
Jagga, I believe

I couldn't find the right thread for this, but didn't the dees offer up 3 first round picks in order to select Bailey Humphrey? I know he's only 20 but that's a very steep offer that is, at this stage, looking like it would've been a disaster trade offer. Then fast forward to this year and we're offering 2 first rounders for Dan Houston. I really don't know where the recruiting team are at and where they see our list etc.

I don't recall Humphrey talk at all. But we did want to trade up last year for Reid

3 first round picks offered for the Essendon pick 4 and it was strongly rumoured/known in the industry that it was to select Bailey Humphrey.

Seems we're being a bit flippant with our picks. First Humphrey, then Houston. Plus the trading away some picks for a minor minor upgrade to select Tholstrup.

We did try and get into the draft earlier to grab Humphrey. But I’m sure we didn’t offer 3 firsts.

Edit: just saw the article. Geez didn’t think we offered that much for him. I do like the look of him but hasn’t shown consistency.

The deal was still turned down indicating whatever was offered was below market value.

Plenty of things to criticize in our list management recently but I don't have 'things that didn't happen' very high on the list.

Not trading Oliver was a big mistake last off season, quite a few of us wanted it to happen as well, if we had a first and a second last year for him not only would this little rebuild have been accelerated but we could be throwing a massive contract at someone through FA

Oliver is going to be too hard to get off the books unless he has a big season, which probably means we won’t want to trade him.

We definitely missed the boat when Adelaide came calling at the end of 2023. Heck i would have even taken a future first off Geelong this year but unfortunately our coach and list management were too stubborn.

Won't get that opportunity again to get a good pick with Oliver.

Agreed. Which is why I’m back fully on the Clayton Oliver bandwagon and just hoping he gets his shit together and gets back to his best.

Adelaide would have watched last year thinking they dodged a bullet.. why we didn’t simply move him to the backline had me stumped.
Stubbornness hidden with the “structures and provides a contest” rhetoric.
