It's been reported we offered everything we had draft picks wise to West Coast the year Harley Reid was drafted.

That was JHF? Even so, we had sweet FA. You don’t trade early picks for later picks in shit drafts.

Players accepted Dusty as he'd just had the best individual season in the AFL & Lynch was ok'd by the playing group as a way to ensure we would be a top contender for another few years and not a doggies 16. Reid isn't coming into that environment, it would still be another 3-4 years before we are fully in the window, so don't think it's quite the right fit for us.

I'm keeping 1&3 - draft the 2 best kids at our disposal and the look to FA/trades following year to plug some holes in that 22-25 year old group

It's only half an hour, pretty easy listen

Nothing too in depth on each player, a lot of it was around how most players were super competitive, wanting to get the best out of themselves, driven, etc
Was asked about traits they look for, which he gave some examples of, but also didn't want to give too much away
Probably the only time he let his guard down was admitting that Robbie D'Orazio, Armstrong's manager was in contact with him during the draft when player managers aren't meant to be in contact with teams during the draft.

Picks 1 & 3 is about right, maybe more but I wouldn’t give up that much for him.

No one will have enough to compensate WC fairly so they’ll have to hope he wants to stay. They will be shafted if he leaves.

I think the group would be more than happy to get him. These long contracts aren't as expensive as they sound as $1.5 million a year is not as much in future years as the salary cap goes up.

I reckon if he shows interest you offer unders in wages and see how much he wants to be here. Even off a wooden spoon we are an attractive destination.

But, as I said earlier, the trade costs too much anyway.

the lance franklin deal also didn't cost the swans picks 1&3, and the hawks got completely ****ed on the free agency compo (pick 19 )


so swans getting the best key fwd of the century for free is miles different than assessing the potential trade for reid

And losing him didn’t matter either. Even for poor compensation.

Hawks would have a huge crack but would have little collateral and miser limited tpp , tbh with one more draft we will have so much talent , we ll struggle to hold onto it , so prob don’t need to be paying a bloke 2m a year ,,,what if lalor and smilie quickly get to his level and command same $$$ we’d be screwed . Couldn’t see him being in Blair’s plans tbh , cats and hawks would be fav right now

Was just outlining the suitors if he decides to return next year. This far out I probably wouldn’t do 1&3 for him personally, I like the top end of the draft next year. But he could easy cement himself as worth that too.

$2m a year isn’t a worry, like Taranto’s 700k that everyone was freaking out about, it’ll be a contract that looks normal pretty quick. LDU is gonna get $1.6m offers next year, $2m for top 5-10 player will be the going rate.

Goes to show how much recruiting has improved over the years to identify the better talent.
Take out 2010-2014 and it ends up being 2 to Reid, 4 to both players & 2 ties, that's pretty good odds.
