It beggars belief that in the 2 weeks of planning, for a player who is clearly in the top 2 that we have to plan against, holding a really good match up for him, we drop Cincotta and let Zorko rack up 19 first half possessions and 10 Coaches' Votes.

Considering how often we let the opposition better players run around unopposed it didn't surprise me.

How many clubs would let Nick Daicos run around goal side by himself in a close game....
Reckon we had a plan but wasn’t executed. Either one of Williams or kemp were given the task on zorko but didn’t perform it.

maybe Cinc would’ve been better but his form was not fantastic of late

It seems insane to me that we would rely on Williams and Kemp to do that job though. A big part of the reason they were moved forward in the first place was because they weren't reliable enough in defence. Cincotta's form wasn't great but I can't imagine why he wouldn't be picked before several others. Williams and Durdin were clearly cooked and Cerra only managed to get 66% TOG as a midfielder in 4 quarters. Kennedy managed 29% TOG and he was subbed off quite early in the game.

It’s more than a tweak. We are at a real crossroads

You don’t lose 8 of 10 games and then go 60-0 in a final if it’s just a few minor issues

Some serious changes need to occur. We have already seen one around our fitness team

Coaching, recruiting and development are next

The serious change needs to be in the team that runs out week after week.

No, I do not think any of Kemp, Williams, Motlop, Durdin or Fantasia were up to minding the All Australian half-back.
Well then throw Cinc in there too if you think neither of Williams or Kemp, but mainly Williams, both of whom spent a crap load of time in defence, couldn’t lock zerko down

I'm not as confident as you are on that...

The midfield is our biggest problem...

The mix is just not working and it's not going to magically work.

We need to make some big moves this off season, shop either Walsh, Kennedy, Hewett or Cerra around... people talking about Owies, mate, for a limited footballer, Owies has done quite well and the least of our problems... if North want to pay a 2nd rounder for him though, fine. Cerra could potentially get us a decent draft pick... Walsh could get us a very good draft pick... nobody wants to do that though, can't get rid of our Cadbury favourites...

No goal kicking mids, too much reliance on Cripps, not getting enough from Walsh, Cerra can't get on the park, Kennedy can't hit an i50 target, Hewett a solid contributor... We literally need TDK rucking because he plays as an extra mid to get our engine room cracking... it was quite evident when he's not there... it's nowhere near good enough unless taking on the worst sides in the comp...

So whatever we do, imo me MUST address our midfield as top priority... they lack pace, foot skills and are generally all similar types. At the very least, shake up what we have... Walsh on the wing, rotate Cowan in there, give Lord more opportunity, put Elijah on a program to get him ready for more mid time (I reckon he lacks fitness which is why he burned out toward the end of the season) just do something different... if we plan on rolling with Cripps, Cerra, Walsh, Kennedy and Hewett next year then expect a similar season where we win about 11-13 games... and that's a big IF Cripps can keep his Brownlow form going...

Id move both of them.

Those selections where fanciful is Voss a bit of a cowboy ?
It's weird, he was being bold but... in the wrong direction, if that makes sense. I would have preferred the 'bold' of backing a few of the young guys like Lord and Moir than hoping like all hell some of the rushed back guys would hold up, let alone perform well.

beyond stupid....

Someone should hang for that decision alone...

expecting Williams to lockdown zorko is not insane

I dunno, don't have much faith in him in defense these days. For mine he's forward of center always.

What?
They’re completely different players. Just because Kemp and Williams, neither of whom were set for Zorko, have played in defence before doesn’t mean they’re good match ups as a defensive forward on an All Australian half back flank, for what is arguably the most important match up in the game.

Cincotta has cut up players like Tom Stewart this year playing that role.

When I say that I expect him to lock zorko down it’s based on two things- he is a professional footballer with significant experience in defence, and we pay him a crap load.

I agree as I have also lost confidence in him but having said all that, I don’t think it would’ve been a ridiculous ask of Williams to play that lockdown role, to sacrifice his own game, especially early when zorko was running freely

Who has Williams done a good lock-down role on?

cinc in taht form yes, but he wasn’t playing with taht form towards the end

Seriously do not think it a big ask for Williams in particular to lockdown zorko

Cinc’s form definitely peaked in July like most of his teammates but if I’m picking someone to tag Zorko out of Fanta, Motts, Durds, Williams then I’ll take him any day of the week

Had abit of time to calm down and collect my thoughts.

I'm absolutely filthy and disgusted that we went 0-60, like seriously, i am so ashamed, absolutely disgraceful and a massive stain to our club, and a big fat f you to our supporters.

I feel sorry for all those supporters who went to Brisbane, all the supporters who throw away their money for club membership and waste every weekend on this club. If anyone is seriously considering buying a membership after that horrendous year, well my friend, you are nothing but a stooge.

This game will have broke whatever was left that resembled a team, its time to do the smart thing, rebuild the list before we spend another decade in purgatory. We all know it's true, the ones refuse yo believe it, know deep down it's true.

Was he shit in defence every time he played there?

Idk- Michael Walters in gather round comes to mind
He wasn’t shit, but he certainly wasn’t great.

Holding a small forward who averaged a goal a game this year to 1 goal doesn’t really compare to an All Australian half back, who would be in the top 2 most important players in the opposition.
