A fine judge of horseflesh
Problem with gus for me, is he is maybe 1 bad contest away from retirement, or at least a significant amount of time on the sidelines. Hes a bit riskier than most.
I also dont see trac playing fwd that much with Billings and Mcadam added to the dees fwd line.
Coby Burgiel hurt his hammy at training today. I know he features on a few benches (including mine )

Apparently Liam Ryan went down in training too.
Need to sort out that Lathlain training ground. It's like a cemetery for soft tissue injuries.

Yeah, I fear we may never see the very best of Flyin Ryan again...... Don't like him when he's playing my team, but wow, what a player.
How confident are we that Williams will even be fit for round 1?
Sounds like he’s still in no contract training and recent training reports on their board are unsure if he’ll be ready.
Make things interesting if he isn’t quite ready or is given a couple vfl games for match fitness first.

A lot of weeks yet. He's 29 and been in the system a long time. If his body holds up, I think he'll be ready even on limited sim and practice minutes.
But yeah, agree, 1 in 3 Fantasy teams right now will be looking for an alternative - which is not all bad, if there are delays but is ready say Round 3 or 4.

The Traders were pretty quick to rule out N.Daicos as a potential starting pick.
Reckon there is a bit more to it than just being scared off by the bye.
Lets consider a scenario where Daicos is 10 points better than the next best defender. Lets put Daicos at 110 and the next best (Sinclair/Sicily/Newman) at 100
First 4 rounds = Daicos 440, Next best = 400 (+40)
Round 5 Finn tag = Daicos 70, Next best = 100 (+10)
Round 6 extra Rookie on field = 55, Next best = 100 (-35)
So at the end of all that you lose 35 points by starting Daicos but importantly don't have to spend 2 trades trying to get him in afterwards. I'd say that makes starting him justified.

...and that's IF you have two spare trades to get him in afterwards. The fantasy gods rarely, if ever, allow me luxury trades that early in the season.

yep I certainly learnt that last year. Can't quite remember the weeks where I didn't have at least one forced trade.
Any plan of "oh I'll just get him after the early bye" is fraught with danger
Realistically, the only way he comes in is if you pivot from an injured premo.
Might have been mentioned already but Tom Clurey as a 300k defender is an interesting option
Especially when he's been playing on the wing.

On the topic of Freo players, Jordan Clark looks a very interesting proposition. With Young and Chapman shifted to the middle, fair chance he’ll become their distributor and a cheapie merchant, if he wasn’t already

Averaged 90 odd once Young moved into the midfield last year. I’m certainly very very interested in him. Good player to watch as well which is always a nice silver lining
The trade you save by starting Daicos, is spent trying to get in the Sinclair/Sicily/Newman who the other guy started. Either way you have 1 keeper premium defender. The only saving is if its easier to save the extra cash for Daicos, but after a 70 he should drop a bit in cash to make it a little easier

The difference being that I expect each of those players to be around the same mark (much of a muchness) whilst Daicos could quite easily be 10-15 points better than the next best defender if he improves on last year.
I only mentioned those guys because they are what the other guy mentioned, I wouldnt start any of them either. I was just pointing out that you dont save a trade by starting Daicos vs Sinclair/whoever, if theyre all top 6 defenders anyway.
I think all those top few defenders have similar potential to increase their average anyway(not much).
Apparently yesterday there was more legitimacy to the rumours of Stewart having more midfield time, while that will likely mean less cheapies, it’s given me thought to keeping an eye on the other Cats defenders through pre season to see who assumes the cheapie merchant role when Stewart isn’t running in defence
