Camporeale twins are 'guns' but only picked in the 50s?

Yeah, there are so many contradicting narratives coming out of Melbourne…for e.g.somehow this is:

a) a draft that is really flat at the top where there is no clear number like Harley Reid w year

…YET it is also…

b) a draft where Brisbane stole the ‘clear’ pick #1 Levi Ashcroft at #5 in what amounts to a complete rort

🤔 😂

Because he would get a standard 2 year national draft, draftee contract.

As a preseason draftee, we can sign him to terms amiable to both, i.e. a 1 year contract that suits us.
Players who already have played AFL don't have to get the standard draftee contract (and historically generally didn't), but ultimately it's easier and less hassle these days to go through the alternate pathways (DFA/PSD/SSP) because you don't have to worry about others jumping in and drafting them before you in a practical sense.

WC added a KPF (Shanahan) after adding another last year (Archer Reid). Maybe they're planning a certain FA next year leaving to join Brisbane...
We will likely match any offers for Starcevich which will help us trade for Allen

Reportedly number 12 on their list and far and away the highest rated player left on board. Very much a talent over needs pick.

Significantly better forward than Reid.

Their nga Cat B rookie drafted last year, Coen Livingston has shown more as a tall forward than Reid.

Compensation pick would be more valuable to WC than forcing a trade.

Also next year looks to have a stacked WA crop at the draft, and WC have 2 decent nga kids and a father son in the 2025 draft as well. All 3 played in this years WA under 18 championships team as bottom agers (along with freo’s nga kid who is better).

What happened to Gillett, did we go off him or is he next year?

BigFooty rumour (somewhere in here) that he lacked aggression. I thought it may have been a false narrative so we could pick him up cheap. Played a very good game (for a underage ruckman) in the vfl.

I understand he can play as an underager in talent league next year and is still tied to us through the academy. Hope we see him at vfl level again next year.

I have read an interview where he himself said that he lacked aggression and it is something he knows he has to work on.

Grouping some draft information together.

BRISBANE LIONS

Picks (at the start of the draft): 27, 34, 42, 43, 49, 58

Selections: Levi Ashcroft (5), Sam Marshall (25), Ty Gallop (42)

Brisbane became the latest to get its man for a bargain price. After pre-draft discussion about whether Richmond would force its hand at No. 1, a contending bid for Levi Ashcroft didn’t come until Melbourne at No. 5. It meant the Lions only had to surrender Picks 40, 42, 43 and 46 to match, gaining 68, 94 and 97 in return. They earlier finalised a trade with the Bulldogs to ensure their points position, acquiring Picks 35 and 48 for 27. It reminded of the Nick Daicos situation a few years back, when the father-son gem slid to Pick 4 and the Pies nabbed him for cheaper than expected. The Lions also matched Sydney’s bid for Academy graduate Sam Marshall late in the first round, before adding another Academy talent on night two in Ty Gallop — arguably the biggest bolter of the draft. Brisbane also armed itself with a bevy of future picks, which will assist in matching a bid on Academy prospect Daniel Annable; a possible top 10 pick in 2025.

I think we completely broke Sydney.

That Dattoli guy they took with their first rounder looks like what you get when you order Kai Lohmann on Temu.com.

How does that team/list not come out of the draft with a tall forward prospect?
