Zorko and Dev both have a contract for 2025.
I know, but you can still delist them, but of course there is a likelyhood of either or both could get picked up elsewhere.
Which is why I suggested Beeken and Craven initially.

If we delisted Dev, he could sign with Eagles as a delisted free agent. Much the same way we picked up Jarryd Lyons and North picked up Hugh Greenwood.

“Normally” if a club has committed to redrafting one of their own players, other clubs don’t touch them. It’s one of those unwritten rules.

But you have to redraft them with your first available rookie pick. If you use your first rookie pick as a live pick, all bets are off.

We did this a lot under David Noble. Lester was delisted and rookie drafted. So was Mathieson and many other of our back of list players.

It was more common when we had players we had clearly figured to delist the following year - those were the players getting moved to the rookie list without fail, because even if someone jumped on them it was a double bonus because it got part of their contract off our books already and freed up the list spot. It's weird to not have anyone in that category these days, as opposed to a quarter of our list at times.

If there is no trade, one would hope we offer Dev that option - with a nod from the Weagles, of course. Far better than him being in limbo for another season.

Trade period is over, so if we're going to do it, no need to string it out.

Looks like there are quite a few players that could go 1-6
Maybe Ashcroft will drop to 4 like Daicos

The article asked 19 draft players who they would pick at 1.
Only 1 player picked himself being Josh Smillie.

FINAL TALLY: WHICH PLAYER DRAFT PROSPECTS WOULD TAKE AT PICK 1 (of 19)

Jagga Smith:
7

Finn O’Sullivan: 4

Harvey Langford: 3

Josh Smillie: 3

Sid Draper: 2

I think Eagles won't commit to him until after the draft is over, to see who's available in the deep draft pool. Dev could run the risk of not even being in the list while also voiding contract with us (which we will ask for sure as part of delisting).

I think if I was Dev I would hold off until after draft ends to see if Eagles switch is genuinely possible before asking for a delisting at Lions. We have rookies whom we can upgrade even if we delist as a favor to him, but we should definitely ask for voiding contract and getting 500k back.

Voting for yourself 🚩

Also, not voting for yourself = not confident enough in yourself = :triangularflag:

Agree, none of those players should be drafted. Maybe we can get one in the rookie draft.

Question should be aside from yourself who would you pick. From memory some douche voted for himself last year as well. Phillipou I think.

Pick 7 - St.Kilda - Josh Smilie

Both self voting douche's can be together then. I'm sure saints will love it.

Like others, I’m confident that Richmond won’t bid. Yes Adelaide have in the past with JUH, but I saw that more about shining a light on the Next Gen academies, which lead to significant changes with Mac Andrews.

North have form and seem the most likely going off everyone else's opinion. Maybe they see it different and may want the “second best” player for a bit of better advertising.

Carlton I don’t see bidding at all. Surely you don’t spend that type of capital, 2024 first rounder, 24 second rounder, 25 first rounder and downgrading your 2025 second rounder with the premiers, just to hand the better player to another team for peanuts comparing to what you had to pay. Same theory would apply if North trade their 2nd pick too.

If its as even of a draft like others have stated, decent chance he could drop. On the flip side, I think Marshall could go slightly higher than anticipated also

In what world would that happen. Stuff of fantasy.

After viewing 14 million possible outcomes there is one timeline where Richmond bid on Marshall at pick 1.

Why wouldn’t North bid on Ashcroft at pick 2? We are 100% going to match, so make us pay the most points. They may rate Levi at 3 or 4 in the draft, but it makes no difference to them because we’re taking him where-ever the bid comes.

That's what I am fully expecting unless our pal Clarko wants to help us out. 😎

If a club bids for Marshall before Levi, do we take him? If no, then this screws up our draft plans.

That's like pick 2 or 3.

North might do the crazy thing but I believe they've learnt their lesson when bidding on Declan Watson. We went "go for it" and called their bluff - they were shocked about no match and having to take him.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Who they got:
Jy Simpkin (12), Declan Watson (34), Josh Williams (36), Nick Larkey (73)

What they said: “Jy is the kind of player who can make things happen and with Daniel Wells and Brent Harvey going he does bring creativity that we hope will complement our playing group.” - Bryce Lewis, North Melbourne recruitment manager

Analysis: Simpkin fits the club’s need for pace out of the centre. Watson and Williams were both rather left-field choices. Both are academy prospects out of Queensland and perhaps weren’t expected to go so high.

We won't match Marshall at pick 2.

We'll watch with mild amusement when rest of the clubs take the other highly rated players and North is left sucking the thumb again. I don't think even North is that stupid.
