Correct on all counts although the rug was more a welcome mat.
In the absence of any SA based offers, given his pending marriage, contacts in Melbourne and already owning property there, his preference was a for a spot on a Victorian based list (fiancee's father is a mad Blues fan too😉)
Strong post to username correlation here... Outing yourself?

I’ve been a fan of every senior player Austin has brought to the club, a fan in the players ability, not so much in every players durability.

We have had a poor injury list for several years and have slowly moved on some of these, the recruitment of Fantasia is a step away on making the list more durable but he has clear upside.

I wanted the club to improve our best 22 through the trade period and although it requires a requirement of fitness, Fantasia improves the 22.

This is where Austin makes a name for himself, we now have two picks that will be probably in the 20s, nail one of them and it’s been a good trade and draft period.

Have listened to the reasons on here as to why we have picked up Orazio but still don't understand them? 28 and similar stats to DC who is 2 years younger and averages roughly 2 games less a season. Hopefully Russell can get these guys right as we really need consistency in our forward half to take the pressure off Charlie and Harry, Martin showed the importance of a 3rd pressure target, finding our best mix of forwards next year hopefully wont take too long.

I think at this point anyone on our list staying fit through preseason is doing so in spite of Russell not because of him.

Until we can hit a round 1 without 8+ in the injury ward the less said about the bloke the better.

My problem with Orazio is not his talent levels or what he costs in a trade (nothing) - it's what is left of his speed after so many years of constant injuries even if we can get him fit (and that is a big IF).

Thomas, McLean, Fasolo, etc. all came in at that stage in their career when they'd lost that yard or 2 of pace and they weren't the same players.

Great skills, but the bloke just needs to get a stack more of the pill.. plays like the invisible man

100% correct. Cuningham, when involved has all the skills and looks a star. Issue is he doesn't (and has NEVER) done enough.

He will be 27 at the start of next season and still hasn't improved this area of his game. If he could become a 20 possession game player he would be a gun. He averages less than 14.

I have always believed his best chance of being an AFL player is to be a HBF. He needs to be lead to the ball and run straight. He's not a good reader of the ball in open space

Personally, I believe he was lucky to get another year. Hopefully he can find his spot and step up to a new level.

I’d like Cuningham to develop himself (be developed) to play higher up the ground - we really need his pace and skills through the midfield.

I came away from the Gabba thinking we need an extra quicker player in each third of the ground.

With Williams and Kemp (who didn't play that final), we have options down back.

We've added EH and Fantasia to the forward options. We also had Durdin and Cunners who didn't play.

We need one of our faster players to become a genuine mid option. We were ok against a lot of sides on the slower winter decks with the current mix. Our biggest losses were to Adelaide, GWS (2nd time), Essendon and Brisbane (H&A) - all sides who get us for speed outside the contest. The same thing happened in the prelim on the faster ground.

The Hewett/Kennedy position is the one that needs adjusting in certain conditions. They will both play a number of games, but no-one could have watched that prelim and thought we had the right mix around the ball relative to Brisbane. Admittedly we were tiring, but they just got back into a game we had dominated early, far too easily.

We will always have blokes who can pinch hit, but IMO we need to change the mix at times to match the opposition. Cunners has the chance and the reality is, forward spots are going to be harder to come by for blokes like he and Cottrell. Hopefully one (or more) can demand the opportunity.

List management wise there seems to be a little focus on players who can play midfield and forward which is good. Rotations have been an issue for us. First we had no rotations then we did but the quality was not terrific.

Fantasia hopefully gets fit and gives us plenty. If fit he's a fair upgrade on some of the regulars in the side towards the end of the season.

I think we are making the right decisions and setting ourselves up to go really hard at our needs in next year's trade and draft period.

Your very good points in paragraph's 3 and 4 have sadly been negated by the absolute shite of paragraph 1.

Deathly silent on the agenda back end of the season in the injury thread, so let's highlight it elsewhere

At some point we need to see results from AR. Anyone can set up a preseason fitness program to flog everyone to the point of breaking down. He's not some rookie learning on the fly - expectations should be high and he's come nowhere near meeting them so far. Concerning when we are adding highly breakable players to the list like OF.

Anyone hey??
Send your thoughts and recommendations to the club then. Im sure they'll be keen to hear your insights.

Did you mean "deathly silent"?

If we get to the end of preseason with another 10 on the injury list maybe it will be time to move on. I think he gets one more crack at it but another disaster like the last 2 preseasons and he should be walking.

If, maybe, perhaps, etc

You went pretty hard early in the season, without any knowledge of what was going on within the innersanctum, then had no ammunition backend of the year

And now you want to double down with "if"

I'm all for reviewing all aspects of high performance and football operations, it happens at every club, every year.
Yet here he is, still in charge.
So tell me, what information about Russell's performance, programs etc are you privvy to, that management at the club aren't aware of?
Do you truly believe you can look at an 'end result' (number of injured during pre-season) and come to an assumption despite not having any intimate knowledge of why and how each injury occurred?
There are so many factors that can lead to an injury..

The fact is you (and I, and nearly everyone here) has no ****ing clue why and how they happen.

Your 'pre season injury = Russell's incompetence' view point is naive at best, and shows a distinct lack of critical thinking.
