realistic how many goals do you expect a Sam Day scores if he doesn't breakdown like the Glass he's made of

In this hypothetical assuming he plays every game - 30-40 goals.

If we recruit him though, I fully expect it's to be coverage for our other talls.

It really is a rare decision by Joe to retire arguably at the peak of his career, only 30 years of age and could have had another 2-3 seasons at least in him.

There probably are other examples but has a player just pulling the pin while in peak form and uninjured happened before in the AFL?

">#Joe :hearts:
People I speak to from other clubs just can't believe it. Offer him whatever it takes is the usual response .But it's nothing to do with money , or even the inconvenience of being an AFL player and all that goes with it.

I just don't think Joe had it in him any more. He gave all he had, achieved what he probably never thought was possible and he just doesn't want to have to train or get himself up to play any more. Unfortunate since he's got himself fully fit after all the injury issues. I remember when he did his collarbone in his first or second year with us. He was just heartbroken. Was Rance a similar situation ?

Not sure on Rance but yer he could be another one.

If I had to guess I would say you nailed it, Joe just can't mentally handle the training any longer... however I do think that being so averse to the spotlight would have played a small part in his decision to pull the pin.

If our recruitment team want 1 or more of those 3 players a Sam Day or mature State League KPF signing will not affect that... they will work it out.
Signing any Joe replacement confirms that in the situation where Sharp is the only player that is traded:
  • We'd be elevating a Rookie + Levi/Marshall at the draft instead of drafting 3 new players.
  • Or, delisting Prior or Beeken/Craven

But he's never kicked more than 19 in he's career that would be a massive improvement for he's career

He's never been the #1 or #2 key forward for a full season in a good team. Your hypothetical was if he played every game 30-40 is only 1 and a bit goals a game. A very reasonable amount for a senior bodied key forward who is also an elite contested mark.

So if Morris kicks 30 NEXT season are you going to respect him?

Nathan is spot on mate. Not to mention, we need a physical body in there if Hipwood goes down. A key forward line of Morris, Smith and Fort would be worse than Sydney's key forward line in the GF. Let that sink in.

morris is obviously no good should we trade him

Bud, I am a huge Morris fan but I am also capable of understanding a 20 year old having to be the #1 key forward in a team vying for a premiership is a ****ing stupid idea.

ok cool but do you realistically believe Day is the Answer personally I'd like to give Ryan more of a chance than a one off game against Hawthorn who have one of the best defenses going around

If we weren’t going in with the intention of wanting to again have a crack at the flag, then yes don’t bring in any experience and throw the kids to the wolves.

I assume we do have an intention to have another crack though, so I’d appreciate if the club gave themselves the best chance of doing that. If that means we need to get a bit of extra depth in the only area of the ground where I think we are light on, then that’s what we should be doing.

I realistically believe he's a good option to have on the list as depth if one of our keys go down.

Who is suggesting he is a walk up best 22 player?

Do people realise we can’t trade for anyone due to getting Levi (easy choice) and even if we were in a position too there are not exactly a huge pool to pick from. Getting Joey the way we did was a freak occurrence. Instead of suggesting Day is shit and that’s it - offer a solution, it’s not that easy. Morris is good but if to ask him
Too lead the pack is too much at this point. IF Day can stay fit I think people maybe a little surprised what he might offer.
