The West is going all in on Reid because whatever happens they get more “news.”

The kid comes good and they crow even louder.

Anything less and, well, that’s probably juicier meat to feast on.

Pretty s**t thing to do with a kid though.
What happens when he fails and gets traded back to the East? Does the paper write an article how they need to take some of the blame or do they just go the player or coach?

I agree with that. I also find it hilarious how we slip between states of regard for the printed newspaper. Reality is only a couple of retired people actually purchase it and noone cares enough about it to actually read the ****ing thing. But it gets referred to in the online media as though it were an august paper of record. And we, who plainly give less than two shits about The West, get all hot under the collar.

It's going away. It's time we ignored it.

Always our biggest cheerleader. What a 🍆.

And just to continue to vent..

“This guy (Longmuir) on screen now is playing the biggest game of Survivor in Western Australia this year that we’ve ever seen,” King claimed.

Yeah Longmuir didn't lead them to a semi-final in 2022.
Yeah there isn't any talent on the list and a rebuild with a good demographic
Yeah there isn't another coach down the road who was under just a wee bit of pressure last year.

It seems to be impossible to get real circulation figures now. Not only are they (the industry, not just the West) hiding the actual hard copy purchases or unique online subs behind a bewildering array of combo metrics that almost certainly include double triple quadruple counts as well as click throughs that people don't read, bots etc: They are being assisted in this process of obfuscation by companies that are meant to be providing insight on the figures, like Roy Morgan.

This unethical, and tabloid in its classic sense, behaviour over Reid is almost certainly being driven by it actually being effective to some extent for clicks, but that they would do something this clearly wrong smacks of desperation.

They have been desperate for ages. The sun went down on that industry some time ago.

What's weird is how intense this one particular fascination is. It is almost as though Splinterdick and the two work experience kids who comprise the staff down there are having a bet to see how long they can keep this shit going.

Dont be fooled though - this is not just the West Australian. This is equally the West Coast Eagles - they control the media. if they wanted less publicity on the kid, they would lobby the Journos accordingly to comply. This is just the stereotypical way the filth operate.

I’ll bat for King on this one, the article reads harsher than his video on First Crack and I think most of his points are valid. Had us 10th I think which is reasonable
I have to agree here.

The essence of what he says is largely factual, it's just unfortunately laced with a bit of built up venom...we're obviously not one of his favourite teams.

King is a "score off turnover" guy and has banged on about that incessantly the past 3-4 years. It's just that our game is mainly built around the contest and scoring from a more methodical, traditional style.

What we need to do, particularly what JL needs to do, is crystal clear and I'm sure both he and the club are under no illusions as to what needs to happen to ensure everyone has a job at the end of the year.

We just need to get "doing".

Some time back, over perceived transgressions, the Weavils restricted The West's access to players. Which really didn't bother The West because they don't have journalists anymore - just dudes who transcribe interviews done elsewhere and who sit around photoshopping their wet dreams about teenagers into reality - but it annoyed Channel 7. So, being the liability in that relationship, The West had to behave itself.

Which is fundamentally why Suma got the lemon and sarse. They are supposed to be frenetically tugging Weavil dick, not cruelly pointing out reality.

Just amazed harley’s manager and parents aren’t intervening in this very dangerous farce.

Backed him so far into the corner that if he doesnt have a stellar first year (way, way better than ab’s is needed), they are going to be baying for his blood.

Bad feeling about this one tbh

Absolutely

Nothing he says is incorrect. Our ball movement at times has been terrible and as much as Simpson probably should be under more pressure than JL he isn't - an out of contract coach is an easy target and the eagles have managed to sell the 'we are young' excuse well despite being not much younger than us if at all.

10th is better than where most have us the media. It's roughly where I see us finishing if we play like we did in the last six weeks of last season and don't have many North Melbourne Round 2 2023 type disasters.

I will accept anywhere from 14th to 5th as reasonable and justifiable
1st - 4th is a purple tinted hopium puffer
15th/16th as pessimistic / worst case scenario
17th/18th as an ignorant hater

We have not had less than a pro-rata'd 9 wins wins since 2018, it would be a completely disaster to lose more than that but we could win anywhere between 9 and 15 games IMO

King's analysis is fingernail deep and completely misses some points which have been made in more considered media that our decline last year revolved around losing Acres defensive running and link up (plus O'Driscoll not being fit), Lobbs get out of jail marking and most of all, being beaten up around the ball after losing Mundy which put pressure on all our other lines.

Having Fyfe, Young and Johnson going through the middle will fix most of it. Having gut running wings and get at of jail marking up the line from Jackson, Fyfe and hopefully Darcy will help immensely and having a functional forward setup of Amiss Treacy and Jackson playing team football with blocking and positioning helps the scoring.

All that has been analysed and articulated much better than I just did from more perceptive pundits than me.

King is just like Cornes. Freo bashing is part of his schtick.

Because I have had hot sauce tipped into the eye of my tadger one too many times, metaphorically, of course, I am not super confident and think King and co's prognostication is not far off the mark. They do, however, get the reason wrong.

Where it could go right for us is having Darcy fit and Fyfe available. Because, while our ball movement last year wasn't great, it was the symptom, not the cause. The cause was getting pantsed at stoppages and, dare I say it, in the contest.

We get back on top with clearances and we will be moving the ball faster right from the git-go.

We have the firepower. I am very bouyant about the Triple Jays.

**** me, good luck stopping a rampant Jacko should he get some decent service. He's kicking miracle goals small forwards would struggle to execute.

The cynic is in me says that they'll completely leave him alone if he underperforms. They literally refused to print an article critical of him. If he played for Freo they'd be running him out of town but he plays for West Coast so criticism of him is therefore clearly illegal. He may get sick of the media attention generally and request a trade, but it won't come from criticism

Really you only have to see who takes the kick outs to see if we have really changed.
Then the run by for the handball to take the game on, change of direction and
who plays the quarterback roles.
At least with Ross he instructed who had authority or the discipline to follow
his guidelines.
Our slow or predictable play inevitably sees the opposition force a turnover or
kick long in hope.
Midfield will be better contested so at least that has been addressed.

I should rephrase what I said at first as I agree with Bigger and E Shed. Where King has us finishing is reasonable, his desire for us to score more from turnover is ok BUT that is not how we play and not how we are going to play. We will win more games if our clearance work is improved from last year, it is how the midfield is set up - stronger players, not that much speed. Trying to win like Collingwood and Richmond dynasty is not the way for this team as it stands to be successful.

It's likely a combination of coaching and personal but we can not transition the ball off rebound as well as those teams, we fluff it half the time. We want to win games how Geelong have done for 10 years, win the stoppage, maintain control out of the backline unless it's an obvious go fast scenario. Hell, the list management team want McDonald which would make give us the most similar 1-2 combo to Hawkins and Cameron in the league IMO.

Having gut running wings and get out of jail marking up the line from Jackson, Fyfe and hopefully Darcy will help immensely and
Who doesn't pine for the glory days of Fyfe on one wing and Sandi on the other, just taking those outlet marks at will? Teams needed 2 rucks to even compete.

Sure he may have gone slightly overboard, yet we are coming off a failure of a year and have a heap of talent on the list. If we don't make the finals I hope JL gets moved on. There would be one exception and that is that five of our top ten players are injured for 70% of the season. That is a lot of pressure.
