You‘re not managing your expectations well if you think he’ll peak in the next year or two.
There's quite a gulf between 1 year and 6-7 years. What you're saying is he'll only be peaking by the time he comes to the *** end of his massive contract. That would be absurd list management IMO

Bloody love Neroli.

It's actually ****ed though. If the kid was wearing blue and gold he'd be protected at all costs like another ruckman that struggles to take marks.

Hopefully he's got thick skin because the West/C7 aren't going to show any mercy.

If it was Liam Ryan again scull dragging his misses while drunk through Kalgoorlie then you would see another cover-up.

The West is vile

He might hit his absolute top level when he's 28 but we definitely need at least 3-4 seasons of 'great footballer' rather than just potential to justify the contract.

I'm not worried though, he'll get there assuming Adrian Barich doesn't kneecap him sometime in 2025.

Who would have thought f.a.g. end would be censored?

Forgetting Jackson for a minute…at what age would you say the average 200cm mobile ruck/forward peaks?

The length of his contract, his salary or what’s his favourite movie is irrelevant to when his biological peak happens.

We obviously hope he will still be bloody good before then, but to me the stuff about his peak is just a genetic fact.

It's worse than that, this report has an agenda. They are quoting $900k which is BS and they made it the back page cover. Really looks like they are trying to create division through misinformation. I imagine bringing in Jacko on a inflated salary at the cost of a player favourite (Logue) would be a sensitive topic within the club.

His best football is literally 6-7 years away…he is far from our biggest concern.
His best football could be 6-7 years away but that doesn’t mean he won’t be good until then? If his best football was one year away and then he peaked/regressed that wouldn’t be good would it? You’d hope players keep improving until that age.

Except it wasn’t at the cost of Logue who I still don’t think is worth the 500k we offered him

I reckon when they got a sniff of Jacko at the beginning of the year they put off contract talks for Logue and Acres.

From all reports Logue had a very generous offer tabled but I get your point, it's an article aimed at destabilising the club after only 2 games.

The camaraderie which was a high point last year is really going to be tested in the next little while.

This is about list management. If we thought he was a developing player that wasn't going to peak for another 6-7 years, and simultaneously we believe our own rhetoric of three prelims and a flag by 2025, the trade makes zero sense. The price we have paid is for an elite talent now, not one that will take half a decade to reach elite. You would let him develop for another few years at Melbourne if that was the case

Think contract talks for those two were put off early in the year because they just weren’t good. Acres was on the verge of being delisted and it took Griff getting dropped to pull his finger out. Once he started playing well we offered him good money but the second he got dropped he started looking around and had the idea in his mind he was going to play elsewhere.

The stubbornness around the Acres station pisses me off still though. He played some great football and the money Carlton were offering was not huge at all. I’m sure two year’s guaranteed on that money and a trigger for a third wouldve been more than enough to keep him and instead we wouldn’t budge on the 180k first offered. And because of that offer we had no basis to ask for any more than a 3rd round pick and just strengthened one of our direct opponents for free.

I don’t disagree with any of that.

My original comment was purely about Jackson the player, not in the context of whether we should or shouldn’t have traded for him at this time.

As ****ed as the West is re. Jackson and even the Logue/Acres stuff on Instagram (triggered me, I know others didn't care as much), I feel like it's exactly what I needed to get up for this weekend and the rest of the season. In the immediate aftermath of Saturday night I felt almost disillusioned, months of hope only to be cooked after two weeks. But seeing everyone absolutely bask in us being shit, shoving it up them this weekend and kicking on from there would feel extra sweet. Hopefully the club see all the shit and use it as motivation. Come on Freo.

Any danger in having a decent footy show these days? AFL 360 is garbage, they seem to have the same guests and talk about the same shit every week. I'd love to see a WA or even SA QLD NSW footy show that didn't just talk to and about the VFL exclusively
