Switched it on for the first time this year.

Saw Damien Barrett has now been promoted to actually providing the special comments on the matches equally alongside Llordo.

I don’t want to hear Barrett’s poorly informed opinion on anything related to footy. He never kicked a ball in his life at this level.
There is 100 opinions on this freo BF board alone more qualified than him.

Everything that’s wrong with AFL media right there. The journos are now the “talents”

Ugh.
Flipside to this is that if football needs to be a prerequisite then that's people like Corbin Middlemas, Clinton Grybas, or Anthony Hudson that don't ever get the chance to call football.

The main problem is that Cornes and Barrett, and admittedly to a certain extent news here, are more about the flashy emotive headlines rather than anything of substance.

There’s a distinct difference there.
Huddo and Grybas and those guys are/were specialist callers who honed their skillset calling matches. You didn’t hear them telling us that team X needs to bring up an extra player into the stoppage or why player Y leading patterns were not as good as they should have been.

Barrett is a journalist. A newsbreaker. He’s like Tom Browne or Mitch Cleary. I’m not interested in his opinion on how the Saints set up defensively, or whether Collingwood have the forward structure to win a flag, or whether Fremantles handballing game plan is good enough to get into finals.
I have no problem with him sitting in the presenters chair like he used to, asking those kind of questions of Matthew lloyd or Kane cornes, guys that have been there and done it at the highest level.
But he’s not the expert that should be answering this kind of stuff.

The moment we have Nat edwards asking Damian Barrett for his opinion on how to get the best of Carltons key forward structure - I’m out. WTF qualifies Barrett to answer that question?
If that’s the case - why bother getting ex-players at all on the tv?
We could just have Hamish and Jason Bennett calling the games on TV, with Tom Browne and Damian Barrett providing special comments beside them in the box.

I do hope you were referring to Brereton in your second sentence on this post.
Dermis is a dead set **** head.Yes he knows the game but he can't STFU . He dribbles and dribbles like a loony tune.
I spoke to a certain journo, who, like a few others , has been given the cold shoulder by the AFL, has said that DB is a knob.Along side a certain Fox host and another certain rather large person.
All fit the AFL catergory that the AFL want, servants of the Boys Club.

To be honest, as much as I love Pav, he has had a bad habit of doing the exact same thing the last season or 2. I re-watched the game when I got home from Optus and by 1/4 time I was already saying "shut the **** up Pav."

Not so sure on Hawks TBH. They have already used 2 top ten picks (6 and 7) on DGB and Ward and neither are particularly impressive.
Day was a good selection by them. Still waiting to see Cam McKenzie from last year I think
Ward has been good, only bust you mention here is DGB. Mackenzie was racking up 90's in fantasy early in the year, not bad for a first year player.

Erasmus is still eligible for the rising star isn't he? Bit stiff on the weekend, Phillipou with 14 possessions and a good mark wins it this week. Erasmus I think led us for pressure acts on top of his 16 possessions, clearances, 8 tackles etc.

Could mount a case for Amiss also if he is still eligible (4 contested marks, 7 score involvements, 3 goals).

"Body of work" win.

Nobody is taking 14 possessions and zero goals over 4 contested marks and 3 goals. Maybe if Phillipou had 15 tackles or something.

Much of a muchness with Ras.
