Biggest difference they made.
Even taking out Daicos.
Moved a premier ruck, but nailed
players, gameplan to heavily score.
Yep, easily. Couldn't agree more, it's perfectly fine to fire a coach after one down year after making finals the year before.

They made top four with Grundy still on their list tbh.

Gameplan and coaching are the major differences. Adding an almost immediate A Grader in Daicos and the players they did the following off season was just a bonus.

Biggest difference is they were the second oldest team on the weekend. They managed to revitalize the list with some youth and get more output from their veterans with a new game plan. They now have a balanced, contending age demographic rather than an over the cliff one.

Not many clubs come back from the cliff, see WC.

They're still getting a fair bit out of their veterans which makes a massive difference compared to West Coast.

Yep, WC kept twice as many for longer on the back of 5 bad drafts. They are going to struggle to bridge the gap now, especially with their midfield. Melbourne / North rebuild coming up.

I reckon by 2027 they will be on the way up. They will go after fringe AFL
Players like Roberton at the Lions, English and Taylor with F/A.
Top ten picks for a few years, deadwood gone.
We will at last get a Derby final 2027 onwards, and the rivalry will be surpassed
From the 05/06 levels.

A good example for us to consider is Collingwood.

2020 Draft and Trade period
Who has left: Flynn Appleby (delisted), Dayne Beams (retired), Atu Bosenavulagi (North Melbourne, trade), Tim Broomhead (delisted), Lynden Dunn (retired), Tom Langdon (retired), Tom Phillips (Hawthorn, trade), Ben Reid (retired), Matthew Scharenberg (delisted), Jaidyn Stephenson (North Melbourne, trade), Adam Treloar (Western Bulldogs, trade), Travis Varcoe (retired), Rupert Wills (delisted)
13 changes
Collingwood lost a lot of experience and replaced essentially with youth. Stephenson and Treloar (Tucker, Meek, Logue) have played fairly regularly at their respective clubs. Acres better than Tom Phillips but the comparison is valid. Collingwood had a number of experienced retirements/Delistings that will happen this year for us (Hamling, Wilson, Colyer). I’ve excluded Lobb because we upgraded to LJ (even though the cost was significant).

It sounds like we were confident in adding Brayshaw as FA and that threw our plans off a little. After missing out an opportunity arose with JOM. Mundy was declining and JOM has been a decent addition in my opinion whilst struggling at times to fit in with the right midfield mix. I’d expect improvement next season for JOM.

Anyway Collingwood finished 17th in 2021 after so many list changes. We know the Melbourne story after finishing high up the ladder with an emerging group in 2018 got ahead of themselves.

Our group need to work hard stop drinking their own bath water and make finals next year. Anything less is failure and there will be coaching changes. I believe we can do it.

We need to finish the season off well whilst also seeing what the likes of Sturt, Corbett, Wagner, Reidy and possibly Emmett etc. have to offer. Corbett gets a chance this week - what I’ve seen at Peel hasn’t impressed me greatly. Reidy will get his chance soon. Hopefully Sturt continues to improve and Wagner also.

I like Ethan Stanley and I like Hugh Davies as a developing KPD. Josh Draper has talent. Knobel a way off but also shows promise. Even young Conrad showed a few tricks but looks about 3 pre-seasons away based on his size. Emmett, Wagner, Corbett and Reidy we need to see what they have to offer.

2 father sons they’ve got, one is best in comp, the other would be a top 5 player at Freo. Fair help out
Three (Daicos x 2, Moore) plus an NGA (Quaynor).

Don't worry fam. When Pav, Mundy and Hughes kids grow up and start dominating we'll be laughing. Guaranteed flags.
I kind of hope if we get a generational f/s that its Hughes or Tucker or someone like that. Just for the lols.

Better yet, Clancee played 100 even. Pearce Jnr.

Cam Sutcliffe, Tendai Mzungu, Zac Clarke, Danyle Pearce and Clancee Pearce are all guys we just managed to get to 100 games before delisting them during this rebuild... imagine if we get even one superstar kid from this lot? AFL would probably change the damn rules lmao
