Chom looks a natural backman and has struggled as a forward, though its a small sample size.

Don't really know to be honest. Perhaps they want to keep a list spot open for the draft and don't want to rush at year end to cut someone. Perhaps the strike rate of success isn't very high so why bother spending that rookie salary?

Clarkson love those type of players who he could mould into brilliant players.

We need a brute of a figure at the backline to out muscle opponents. Blight looks to be a tank like player who could hold his ground against the other big forwards. Comben at chb as another who could intercept.

Could pink and bignoa be retrained into forwards?

Yes if all of logue corr comben dawson are not injured, bignoa is a cut unless he can develop as a 2nd ruck or fwd.

Pink showed a bit, why not let him play as a fwd as we have no one else anyways, you never know.

There's nobody special in the mid season draft.

It's just a pathetic glimmer of hope for the bottom feeding teams.

How does the selection get decided for the MSD? Same approach or different from the main draft? It would be interesting to hear from the club if they are taking a best available or needs based approach. Anyone with any insights?

I think it really depends on the club and who is available. If you have a specific role that needs to be filled and you are a top 8 side, you are going to be very selective on who you take.

Western Bulldogs seem to prioritise players that already know their structures ect. They regularly take players who are already in their VFL system.

I think we are in a position where we have both needs basis (talls) and overall talent, but I think we’d also prioritise players who are under 25 y.o and who can develop with our current crop.

I’ll be very very surprised if we don’t go needs basis and take a tall.

I’m kind of getting the same vibes. I reckon WC have Scaife in mind and are trying to get North/Richmond interested in other players (particularly Blight).

Mentioned in half a dozen different articles in the last week after previously not being mentioned at all.

Jai Newcombe and Sam Durham suggest otherwise. We haven’t had much luck with the MSD, but if we can get a player that plays at the level of those two above, we’ll improve instantly. At worst it gives us a chance to throw another dart at the dart board.

Wouldn’t surprise me if plenty of clubs pass. That pick could come into 10ish. I’d love if Oskar Smartt was still available, he has some potential as a small forward.
