How good would it be if he could replace Cox towards the end of next year. Good as in, Cox getting another 14 months out of himself at AFL level and Smit progressing to that standard - with Steene also in the mix 2026/7 when Cameron entering his last year or two.
He's got good hands which is a real bonus

Smith looks big and strong enough to possibly play this year. Long should also be in the same category but his kicking worries me
The question mark for me with Long is whether he has enough class. He can’t rely purely on his size the next level up and at times he’s lacked a bit of composure when opposed to classier mids in the VFL.

He’s dominated some games though, so glad to see he’s got another opportunity. With some concerns around Carmichael and concussion he adds some more midfield depth too.

Really like the picks
You either pick a player to help win this flag or you pick one that will help you down the road

I know nothing about Smit other than to say it looks like we are going to develop an aggressive tap ruckman w height
Will compliment Steene who projects as a forward ruck
We’ve got Cox fir a least another year and Cameron fir quite some time so a great time to grab one we think can hone their craft for a number of years to then take over

Like others I’m not high on Long but he knows our system and could help us get through this injury crisis to get us to finals

They may not be “sexy” or popular picks but they feel right
To be fair, Teakle is only sexy when covered in treacle.

I reckon we'll be happy if he can help shield our running mids and get the ball out of congestion, which does well in the VFL, just needs to tidy up his kicking a bit

jathanas will have a better idea on Josh through his junior years, but from an opposition POV from those days he was just OK playing as an unaccountable HB, at times.

I didn't get to follow Josh much after the Colts, but you're right. Of the 2, Callum was seen as the one more likely to do well.

Josh's basics (kick, handpass, ball pick-up, awareness etc) always looked very strong but he did miss a lot of footy; even back then.

Which pretty much proves the point that I was making

If he can get in and under and get the ball out to our better users, he'll be worth the punt.

Bobby, Howe, Crisp, Lobb, Moore, & Elliott would be some crew.

Get Pendles in on it too
Was it Pendlebury on social media who said he’d go blonde if a post got a certain number of likes, but didn’t follow through?

Getting Smit, is this another nail in the coffin for Begg on the list for next season?

Last year of contract, knee injury, young ruckman replacement
Begg was gone regardless.
