Even though were crying out for talls, a 194cm mid would be hard to pass on.
I'm afraid there is no easy answer either way. Between now and the end of the year including the Nationals if Josh was to say smash it to pieces then yes he would be very hard to pass on, if we had a choice in getting him! If we had a choice in getting him and he played well without going crazy, even with the improvement in him to come then lets say if I had a house I would bet it all that we would trade down the order and get two or three picks or trade it for a gun player out of contract as well as throwing in next years first , depending of course who the gun player is.

Its worth noting not too long ago just before Paddy Crips finally showed his potential and started ripping games apart that many people were expressing "smallish" mids were the way the games going and that big mids like Paddy just weren't working out. While supporters from all clubs seem to change their mind at every opportunity{not all of them} the reason professional recruiters know what they are doing is not only do they watch these kids for 4 to 5 years as well as knowing or should I say not worrying about how the game might be going this way or that way.

To many times I've read that if we pick another small mid or we need another big mid or that "the prized mids we got" aint cutting the mustard, I just rub my forehead and shake my head. The picks in the National drafts that we used {on mids} are I feel, fine. Lets just get games into them and get the experience and get their fitness and body's right for AFL standard. As I've posted elsewhere with what Clarko said about our mids, either after the draft or in a questionaire on the North Melbourne members site, I'm not sure, but I remember Clarko saying "we've got enough mids now" so we'll look at some of the other holes on our list.

So yes, things change, but unless Sid, Finn or Josh really rip it up then even though people get stuck on players in the draft {yes, even this far out} I'm pretty sure we will be doing one of the two things I've listed above. It all comes down to where we finish, how our players are progressing and some young key forwards and defenders on our list, so many things to play out its crazy as we could say finish 12th or 13th and then we could finish 16th, 17th or 18th, don't forget certain players coming out of contract during the trade period too, this could have a big say in what we do at the National draft!

I do like your opinion on our small mids i agree nothing wrong with them. I don't know how many times i have read on here from posters saying that our mids are to small and in their next post bring up how did we missed out on Serong.

Yeah I reckon the Cat B thing for blokes born and bred here is a stretch, but for the MSD you have to nominate for the prior main draft?
Agree but since it’s not would be nice to see us start utilising it and grabbing these talented cross code local talent and sticking them on our cat b list

I don't think I could have said it any better!

Likely first-rounder Luke Trainor is the grandson of champion 1000-goalkicker Doug Wade and the nephew of AFL Commissioner Gabrielle Trainor

GABRIELLE TRAINOR, AO

Gabrielle Trainor’s background is as a lawyer, journalist, public sector executive and consultant in public policy, government relations and issues management. She has more than 25 years’ experience as a non-executive director in entities operating in urban development, major projects, transport and infrastructure. Her current positions include as Interim Chair of Infrastructure Australia, as an adviser to the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority (Vic), a board member of the Western Parkland City Authority (NSW), construction company Built Group Holdings Limited and listed investment company WAM Global. She is a trustee of the Charlie Perkins Trust, a member of the AIATSIS Foundation Council and an advisor to law firm Gadens. Trainor was appointed as an inaugural Director of the Greater Western Sydney Giants Football Club in 2011 and chaired the Giants’ Integrity Committee. She has lifelong experience in football, from volunteering for the Willoughby Wildcats in the Sydney AFL juniors’ competition to sitting on the AFL Commission NSW/ACT for 10 years, where she championed the movement to better integrate the Sydney Women’s AFL with the Commission. Her grandfather, Frank, and father, Tony, were presidents of North Melbourne for a total of 22 years. Appointed to the AFL Commission in March 2016.
Do any of the KPBs (Trainor) have traits that could be utilised with success up forward?

His stats may not pop off the page, but Langford was one of the Academy's best in this game. He competed well in the air and his possessions were assertive and damaging. He had one quarter in the middle in the third and his physicality played a key role in helping his team gain ascendancy in that period.

We need leadership and experience who on the free agent list should we be targeting?

We can wait another five years for teenagers to mature, we have a Massive hole in the list 24 to 30 years old, the player in this range we do have bar one or two aren't worth a bucket of warm spit.
So we must get in some leadership and experience, or its going to be another 5 years of this shite.

Draft best available, which is likely to be a midfielder.

Couldn't give a shit what the media has to say regarding key position players.

The reality is there has not been a single key position player since 2020 who went soon after our first round selection that we should have selected above the player we did. There are only 3 KPP who were worthy of a selection at our picks in that time. Two of them were Jed Walter and JUH, and we had access to neither (maybe Adelaide take JUH in an open draft and we end up with Thilthorpe who I'm a massive fan of). The only other option was Sam Darcy, but I doubt we take him ahead of Judas and again, we didn't have access to him as he was a F/S.

We need a key position forward but it's idiotic reaching for them to appease the morons in the media.

If there's anything to come out of our period of drafting in the last 5 years it's the ridiculous compromised nature of the draft which has severely impacted our ability to actually take the best player available. This is conveniently ignored by most of the media.

Oh no, they mentioned it affecting Hawthorn ;)

What’s the fitness level of a guy who transitioned to cricket? I’d imagine there would be a degree of catch up for aerobic, lactic and anaerobic running

Mate we bought Mason blardy Cox over and he went and signed with Collingwood. Not that I rate Mason. We try but other clubs can offer more. Any we get, will have been overlooked by other clubs.
Both here and elsewhere.

One thing and not directed at you is the belief the club doesn't realise the things that some on BF like to point out. Of course they see it.

Assuming we lose Cam Z as a free agent we would have to be careful about who we are picking up as it might dilute any compensation, although after yesterday's his offers may be reducing! Regardless of Cam we will also be losing a heap of experience with Thomas, Taylor, Greenwood, Shiels all out the door.

If we retain Cam and we can have a free hit at free agency I'd be targeting the following:
  • J Berry (Defensive mid, obvious need)
  • R Lester (decent defender, seems like a good leader)
  • O Florent (very good player, versatile)
  • J Battle (Intercept marker)
  • I Cumming (good defender and beautiful kick)
  • M Duncan (Good player, versatile and would bring leadership)
