That’s fine, it’s that extra pick of ours last year, that turned out to be 29, that will taint the competition for the next decade…So once again although early a projected top 10 has 3 father sons and one academy, but no the draft isn't compromised at all

I post this every year (or try to) but here is the summary since our oldest drafted player remaining on our list, which is Luke McDonald, was drafted.
Last year, this list went back to 2007, Goldy's draft year, but now it's much shorter. Games listed are with NMFC only. This list does NOT include players traded in.
My summary of each draft year:
2013: Very good
2014: Trash
2015: Trash
2016: Pretty good
2017: Trash, except for LDU and Xerri
2018: Trash, except for Bailey Scott, and maybe Curtis Taylor
2019: Uncertain, because it's yet to be seen what sort of career Comben will have, but mostly trash
2020: Still too early to tell but looks promising, maybe as good as 2013 when all is said and done (#)
2021: Except for a current PA player and the mid-season draftees, all players are still on our list.
2022 & 2023: Too soon to tell
(#) Schnoz took over after this draft
Some would say our player development hasn't been the best over the last 10+ years. It's hard to argue with that. Here's the list.

The ones that were the worst were nielson over toukThe Durdin, Neilson, Dec Watson, Josh Williams and Will Walker picks absolutely crippled our depth for a loooong period of time. We still haven’t fixed the damage that was done with those picks. Combine that with the Perez/Mahony stinkers and it’s no wonder we had no depth for so long.
Everyone’s always an expert after the fact
I’m talking about ppl naming gun players that were taken after said players that we should have taken.Every single one of those picks except Durdin I was critical of on the night. Many of those guys were taken well before where they were expected to be taken. Particularly Will Walker and Daniel Nielson, those guys were being talking about as late 3rd early 4th round picks and we reached for them with early 2nd round picks.
Contrast that to the way Richmond drafted in the second round over the same period. The Durdin, Neilson, Dec Watson, Josh Williams and Will Walker picks absolutely crippled our depth for a loooong period of time. We still haven’t fixed the damage that was done with those picks. Combine that with the Perez/Mahony stinkers and it’s no wonder we had no depth for so long.

Spoke to him at a family day and he said he was competing with Billy Hartung for a spot ... Nek minnit both gone.A lot of the problem with those names was development.
We gave up on a lot of those players too early. Brad Scott was ruthless with the young kids and didn't have the patience for players who needed that fourth or fifth year to develop them into reliable AFL players.
The Josh Williams one in particular is ridiculous to me. As a second-round pick in 2016, he was described as a raw prospect from FNQ, with enough athletic attributes to be an exciting long-term prospect. He showed promise but was delisted at the end of an interrupted second year.
I don't know how you look at that example and say it was 100% a drafting error.

Anyone know where Byron Pickett Jnr is playing this year
And if we nominate him in the rookie draft and noone takes him he could be a cat b rookie and a free hit we could take? could have done that last year too
I thought he’s not playing football?I've not heard anything to suggest there's a serious footballer there although I hope he has a good year somewhere. Seems a decent kid.

Fingers and testicles crossed it’s Josh Smillie. Looks awesome to me. We need another big body mid going forward.Fantastic that we'll get access to one* of these players.

Yes, thought the same thing as good as the other mids sound the moment I read 180cm I couldn’t help but think we’ve got a few of them already.Fingers and testicles crossed it’s Josh Smillie. Looks awesome to me. We need another big body mid going forward.

Looks like another Bont clone to me……but there’s been a few of those over the journey that have yet to live up to it.Yes, thought the same thing as good as the other mids sound the moment I read 180cm I couldn’t help but think we’ve got a few of them already.
