Not saying all those players will be better than all of this year's mids. Of course they won't. But all were higher rated in their draft years. It is time to invest elsewhere on the field.

Yes, Duursma won't be a full time mid, you only need one or two of these, but we would be expecting him to spend most of his time there or we wouldn't have drafted him.
Duurs had the view long term of pinch hit in the mid maybe high half forward. He will be scary good if he develops as he should and drags his oppenent into the square. I think With a player like Tauru if he develops as a forward him and Duurs wilkl be a great contested marking pair. Both with capacity to move up higher on the ground.

I may be on my own here. But I don't really see Duursma as a contested marking forward. He will take some classics, but he relies on his leap more than his size, and as a forward he will get bigger opponents who regularly body him off the line or stop him jumping. I think he will be more dangerous floating into contests on the wing like Nat Fyfe used to - Jordan Dawson is a similar around the ground marking threat. Just needs a couple of serious pre-seasons.

We’d take peak Nat Fyfe wouldn’t we. Love that. I have always agree with the Hird comparison. But Fyfe and Hird both a bit similar at their best. I like the Fyfe thoughts

Port trying to move to pick 10

Might be
Rich out 6/10
In 2/ future north 2nd

Port out 13/29
In 10/62

North out 2 / future 2nd
In 6/13/29

That would be nice
I really do feel like we are giving up a fair bit, but always interesting to see what could happen. Like that we end up with 29 as well though.
Where was this posted roos 10 ?
Tigers supporters will say it’s too much you’d think. Pick 2 is the same as pick 6 in this draft, apparently. Or even if pick 2 better than 6, not worth giving up another mid/late first rounder to move up for. I don’t agree. Big difference in pick 2 and pick 6 to me.

Some one on port board said port looking moving up to 10 for Allen and I just trying work out what the deal would be

Alix Tauru seems a lock now to be the first key position player taken in the upcoming national draft. Here we see one of his most impressive performances for the season, particularly in the air where he was dominant and disruptive consistently taking intercept marks throughout the game. We also saw where his area for improvement will need to come with his disposal and decision making causing a couple of costly turnovers.

An elite Intercept mark with poor decision making and disposal?? Absolute fools gold

Nostra could be right and we aren’t necessarily definitely taking Stevens.
29 is Gerryn territory. Or he may be gone by then.
Twomey just said today we’d be nominating River before the deadline. We are picking him, we were never not going to pick him.

At first I thought the Saints were a good option to split #2 with by also using our F2, but I've since read that they currently only have 30 on their senior list and need to get to the minimum 36 with only 4 draft picks available. Undoubtedly they have their eyes on some delisted players including Curtis Taylor, but I doubt they would reduce the number of picks they take into this draft under those circumstances.

I'm still hoping we can find a way to split #2 on our terms because I don't want to burn our F1 on a pick in the mid teens. Our F1 is valuable and I think we'll regret frivolously trading it away. A three way deal might be the most likely way we end up splitting our #2.

I will agree with you on that. I would hope over time he develops more body work not to rely on spacing for his marks. In his Jnrs I was always surprised how open he got so often. I think he has high footy IQ, elite vertical and clean hands.

I would hope that’s where his development comes from. I would suggest we will see him as a forward. Decision making of when to jump and spoil and timing is elite. As a 1:1 defender he rarely losses. I could almost see similar to Mac Andrew for me.

Sounds like forward would suit his skill set better. How is his set shot? Decision making/footy IQ and skills aren't things you can train to get from poor to elite imo.
If we want that interceptor would much prefer Trainor

We have picks 7, 8, 32 and 47, but we also have our two NGA guys, Cole and Hoffman, and F/S Peckett, so we’ll probably be taking 6, or maybe even 7, from the national draft, if they get bid on there.

I think a swap of say 7 and our F1 for 2 and your F2 could work really well for both parties.

You guys presumably get your man Tarau at 7 and can perhaps trade back into the first round or so with our F1, and we get to grab one of the guys with speed and skill from the pointy end of the draft, which we badly need to compliment what is likely to be a terribly one-paced midfield next year.

I think everyone wins and goes away happy with that.

You guys get to move up from R2 to R1 next year, just for moving back to get the guy you actually want this year.

While we move back from R1 to R2 next year, to move up this year to get the guy we want.

If we do split 2 that would be a fair outcome agreed.

I would prefer we go best available at 2 however.
