I cannot agree, Stevens looked good in that game and held his own in a lot of contests. I dont think he makes it. I think because the overall standard was lower, the draft group just isn’t that great. I think the 4 midfielders will go alright.. Levi obviously a standout in the entire draft.

The champs looked good because the talent pool was closer to average than it was exceptional. You know, when two shit AFL teams play off in a close game, people say “wow what a cracking game of footy”. Just because the game was good to watch doesn’t mean the talent was that good.

Watching Armstrong, he’s awkward and clumsy, doesnt move that well. He is hit or miss. He’ll be a slower burn than Logan McDonald
I think the top 5/6 is not as elite as last year, like Reid, McKercher, Walter, Duursma, Watson and Sanders are likely more elite talents compared to say Smith/FOS/Lalor/Draper/Smillie/Langford this year.

But I believe the players in that 9-25 bracket this year (Trainor, Travaglia, Bo Allen, J Whitlock, Lindsay, Armstrong, Shanahan, Berry etc.) are better talents than most of last years crop (Read, Tholstrup, Gothard, Leake, Green, McCabe, Goad etc. with a few exceptions like Wilson, Caddy, O'Sullivan in that group etc.).

I think a swap of say 7 and our F1 for 2 and your F2 could work really well for both parties.

No it wouldn't.

Even without our F2 being chucked in for free, that deal doesn't really work for us. We want to turn pick 2 into multiple picks in this draft. If you can get a decent pick this year for your F1 then do that trade and we will take that pick and 7 for 2.

An elite Intercept mark with poor decision making and disposal?? Absolute fools gold
I reckon his disposal was pretty good. Only really 1 clanger. I like the lad. Hopefully we might get him and he can be a future Paul Vand Der Haar or Peter Knights with that marking ability and blonde hair. Im showing my age now

If we weren't thinking of Duursma as a mid, we shouldn't have taken him. As good as he looks, taking another mid-sized forward would have been nuts when we had offers from Hawthorn and Melbourne to trade down and fill needs by taking either Watson and Morris or Curtin/Caddy and pick 5 this year.
We've delisted two mid sized forwards since we took Duursma and another is on a one year contract.

1/ Harry Armstrong
2/ Alix Tauru
3/ Kayle Gerreyn
4/ Jack Whitlock

Harry is everything you want in a young key forward and more, he is a deadly shot for goal, can take a huge pack mark, his second and third efforts are cat like the way he gets back up and goes after the ball, his leading patterns are good but can be improved even more at an AFL club and his teamwork is very good at times for bringing other players into the game.

Alix, "The Flying Viking" his aerial ability is quite simply, outstanding, his kicking is good, though at times as has been pointed out his dinky little short passes do have too much hang time and give the opposition time to intercept, but that is neither here or there and I'm sure will be tidied up when he gets to a club. A real defender if ever I've seen one, + has the ability to go forward and cause havoc when he gets the chance, recruiters love boys that are versatile.

Kayle, can virtually be anything and like Harry could be that next "someone", like all the draftee's has a few things to work on but his potential is completely off the charts. A key forward or a ruckman, or both? He has presence but in terms of how to use it to his advantage as well as being more damaging I think will come in time, hard work, learning and instilling that into his game will be the making of him and when he figures that out, look out AFL.

Jacky, Jacky, Jacky, while there were some that weren't impressed by his draft year, if you look at it at face value it wasn't that bad, played some good footy at the end of the year and I know I probably do harp on it a bit but his game in that "final" was good, forget the stats, if you watch that game, watch for those moments that he comes to the fore, that is his potential right there and let me tell you that its only going to get much better.

That is my top 4 for this national draft, I said key position players because even though we need key forwards, on potential, Alix must go in there, no questions asked. On the rest of the key forwards in order I would go:
Jonty Faull
Jobe Shanahan
Thomas Sims

I think we need to grab two of that first four, but that won't be easy, with picks #2 and #62, we will attempt to trade in a future first or second and we could just grab one of these tall key positional talents while with pick #2 we finish off our midfield with either Finn, Sid, Sam, Jagga, Josh or Harvey. I would love one of the star mids and one of these talls but I think now is the time to grab two key positional talents IF we are going to trade in a future pick.

One thing I have been saying for a while leading into this draft is that there wouldn't be that many changes, I probably expected one or two more, but from everything the club has said early in the year, one word stood out even when posters were calling out big list changes I never forgot that word, that word, stability.

Its again just my opinion, but with some teams iffy on trading for our pick #2 that might change after we see who Richmond take with their first pick and the other five players that are left, but in the end we have to get two of those boys, forget unders & overs for a minute as well as next year because if we nab two of the above in that first list, our major drafting is complete and will be well worth it, in my opinion.
Thanks so much TTS, that was way more than I expected I really appreciate the time & effort.

North would do 2 and F1 for 7/8. This board would hate it but I reckon we would.
No we won't do that, the whole premise of splitting 2 is to get an additional pick in this draft. There is no way we dilute our draft hand going from 2 to 7/8 and not get an extra pick this year. We're better off just keeping pick 2.

I may be on my own here. But I don't really see Duursma as a contested marking forward. He will take some classics, but he relies on his leap more than his size, and as a forward he will get bigger opponents who regularly body him off the line or stop him jumping. I think he will be more dangerous floating into contests on the wing like Nat Fyfe used to - Jordan Dawson is a similar around the ground marking threat. Just needs a couple of serious pre-seasons.
Duursma has a great leap but it's his ability to read the flight of the ball that's his super power.

I could see us doing that with our second rounder next year but our first will be too high…
Unless we get swap firsts

FWIW, the only actual ITK (IMO) on this site just posted that we have offers from Saints and Richmond for pick 2 on the draft rumours thread.
Who is the ITK, that you believe, on this site. I just checked rumours thread. Surely not the Palestinian flag bloke?
He's saying 15+18+21 for 2, or we trade 15+18 for 7, so have 7+21

Lol, the credible Carlton fan, not the absolutely insane Richmond nuffie

True. And hopefully it is a sign that we are trying to balance the list. But how many mid-sized forwards can you fit in a team? Two is really the max, though one is preferable.
