Sydney - Thomas Sims
199cm KPF

I think he'll be the best forward and a very good 2nd ruck

Had a very respected board veteran suggest I take a closer look and I like what I saw.

Write up to follow

*I considered the other twin but I have other plans

Don’t hate it just question whether you could have traded back and done the same thing but those are the two key needs whatever tall forward is fine

Looking at What I picked for Richmond so far

They have the speed in Lalor and Dattoli
The inside bulls in Smillie and Langford

The Key defender in Trainor

And Key Forward in Shanahan

I missed on the pace of Marshall
And Hotton
Take out Langford and trainor
Replace with hotton and Lindsay

Possibly mate. A small risk I could have missed both.

I really wanted to make sure I got my KPF after landing Hotton.

So far it fallen the way I was hoping. I still have plans/primary and secondary targets and will end up taking 4 picks I think.

I wanted to get the perfect balance for you guys.

More the second pick Hotton is perfect he was there you sort of had to take him. Just get bad vibes reaching for talls that said you have addressed two of our needs a small forward or a medium forward next pick

Accepted. Pick #37 is all yours.

blueiris , please note change of owner of pick #37 from GWS to Geelong.
I would like to know the logic behind Giants agreeing to that trade. Seems as if you are trading for very similar pick in a weaker draft. My understanding is that the Giants have the list spots to take 5 picks in this years National Draft.

No, actually we only have 4 spots for ND, then 2 in the rookie draft. So, in reality, a trade of this nature would have needed to be made before the ND spots are finalised. I am effectively replicating that outcome.

I would think that in the next week or so, GWS will either:
  • bundle up 2 (or even more) picks to grab an earlier round 1 pick, OR
  • trade a single pick (#16, 21, or 37) into 2025.
Otherwise we will simply lose pick #53, which seems a waste.

I think #37 is a big chance to be moved because of the risk that Logan Smith will be bid before then; but we might take the risk and simply have a trade out ready to go on the night. #37 for a F2 from a team likely to be at the pointy end of next year's ladder is a good result, and GWS will hope that they actually do poorly and it becomes more valuable.

I could have just taken a selection here and not worried about the reality of list spots (I had someone in mind until the trade offer popped up), but this mock draft has given me some thoughts so happy to make the trade.

I'd also note that with the revised points system to match academy and father/son bids, I suspect second round picks will become more valuable in future (vice currently third round picks). This trade would add a third second-round pick in 2025 for Giants - I see this would be creating value in possible trades for round 1 picks next year (Lions and Suns, for example, will likely do their usual trade back to increase points for guys like Annable & Uwland).

Does that make sense?
