Well those squads are going to tell us absolutely zero about who is expected or closing in to be in the round 1 team. We’ll have to wait until the second match it seems.
Feel like there will be some good insight to take out of the game though, Darcy vs Lobb, Buku vs Coffield, battle of the shitty wings, Bramble/Gags opportunity etc

38 players playing so only absentees are Macrae, Smith, Garcia, Croft & O’Driscoll.

Not too shabby at this time of the year when players would be rested for any minor niggles.

What’s with the two squads? Some darn good players playing with vfl guys.
I'd imagine Hawks are doing the same? I haven't seen their squads. Usually the clubs communicate with eachother and work out what each one wants to get out of the game. Like teams doing situational plays for example with 2 minutes to go in the quarter the scores get adjusted to have one team leading by three points and then reverse it the next quarter.

They’ve just named one squad.

Was there previous news there would be 2 games? I thought it was just one but we play them again next week or whatever, but now technically we are playing 3 games against the Hawks lol

I’m very confused.

Team selections in and out of season are confusing for me so you are not alone.

Even inter club matches are confusing.
What happened to getting two captains to pick who they want on their side like it use to be in the school yard everyone new exactly where they were at

Hey guys, hawks fan here, but in enemy territory but I have a quick question about parking at whitten oval. Is there much parking there, I’m planning to go tomorrow and taking the train is a bit of a trek for me so I was wondering if there is much parking there? I had a quick look on google maps and there seems to be a carpark out the front, but I’ve read that that isn’t open to the public, can anyone confirm this, or if I show up early enough can I park there? Thanks in advance
No chance in the main car park. Can't even get a spot on a quiet day but the suggestion about the train station may work. Also a Bunnings next to the train station. Not sure how they control car parking but either way a 5 minute walk.

First game is on Fox/kayo
Can you do a free trial?

The coverage will be shithouse anyways. It'll be windy and they'll be filming on Nokia 3315s.
They do do 1 month free trials but the suggestion is to go halves with a mate on a monthly subscription. You get a stream each and costs about $2.50 a week each.

It’s a glorified scratch match. The club is clearly treating this at the same level as an intra-club with VFL guys involved.

Just a chance to get some match fitness in and work on some whole club game plan stuff.

Check google maps before you head off. Plenty of major roads and fway exits are shut out west at the moment.

do people mind sharing updates for both games tomorrow? I'm at work today and will miss the broadcast. It'd also be great to get a sense of how the second game went considering our quality players in that game too.

Spitting teams means the only guide we get is we get a look at the guys who have hardly played AFL plus the new recruits. Not a bad thing but should not be disappointed if we get soundly beaten if the hawks play their best available in game 1.

Kind of annoying. While players get 2 runs over 2 games, the main team likely for round 1 will only get 1 tune up together like last year.

And we’re running into a Melbourne team who’ll have already had an official hit out.

Interesting squads and gives a lot of guys a big opportunity in the ‘ones’ if you can call it that. Lobb vs Darcy head to head ruck/fwd best man wins?

Real shame both games aren’t televised as can’t get down tomorrow, is it too much to ask the club to record/stream the second game too? 🙄

But plenty to look out for in the first game at least
A few VFL blokes about to get their “I played a game with Bont” story to tell their grandkids.
