Training 2024 Pre-Season

Agree and for the same reason, I think the club should be holding Wilson back a bit. No premierships are won in the off season.

If Wilson has a massive tank and goes hard, its what he was already doing before he was drafted, StKilda have done nothing with him yet?
I you suggesting he should train less than he has been?
Pretty sure the club would have given him a personal training program.

It was a post earlier gringo - hence me saying we should let him break out before anointing him the next skipper.

You then made the dumb comment about him having a 30 disposal game once.

Which isn’t breaking out and means * all really.
Windhager’s best games have been as a run with player, which he’s done very well, keeping the opposition’s best mids quiet.
He’s also got a fair bit of the footy himself!!

First year players are already looked after re: training loads, no doubt Darcy will get the odd training day off, as will the other draftees.

Pointing out that he's not broken out but he's not exactly dragging his heels either. Actually reckon he's got more captain vibes than most of the others in his year level personality wise. Nas is painfully quiet, Owens is quite reserved and shy too. Phillipou maybe but seems quite a self focussed individual. I reckon out of his crew he's probably got the best personality for it. Nas is the only one of them that is probably fully broken out and playing absolute top footy so far.
The kid’s 20…yes we expected bigger things from him this year but from what I’ve seen this preseason, 2024 will be the year he ‘arrives’!

A lot of hotels are booked out already
Yeah it’s crazy
People love the round over here
I’m hearing Norwood only holds about 10k so parking etc would be an absolute nightmare at capacity
As much as we would like to go it aint happening

There was a bloke called Robert Harvey who used to run himself into the ground, obsessive compulsive with his training.
Wilson reminds me a bit of this atm that's all. I'm sure the club has it in hand.

Just like Jack Steele early days.

When Windy and Chito were academy prospects, the big wrap was on Windy with Owens while good not the huge prospect Windy was.
Well chito has looked like a superstar while Windy has been hampered a little by injuries and then he slotted into a role for Lyon's structure.
Windy hasn't broken out yet, but the potential is just as much as when drafted and when he does break out, it will be like Steele 2020.
He got the 2 for a reason, but no rush, in development or responsibility.
I think our development of young players has come on in leaps and bounds.

Plenty are lost though in the off season.

Wilson is pushing hard but his tank and endurance is eye opening.
400 metre repeat runs. Everyone blowing like a gale, Wilson, up front of the fastest running group, blowing a bit, but looked like he would recover in 15 seconds ( which he would do and go again).
I have no concerns on Wilson's aerobic capacity and what he is doing currently.

I agree.

But that still doesn’t mean he broke out and based on what’s been delivered thus far.

The 23 who played against GWS - Cordy Caminiti Ross Windhager stocker Clark are the ones who’s spots would be the weakest claims for a round 1 spot.

Considering we have Dow Henry Howard Wilson Membrey/Keeler Byrnes who seem like the most likely to be in contention for round 1 and the first 2 mentioned most likely guaranteed a spot.

Hopefully my point is pretty clear. It isn’t a shot at Windhager. It isn’t saying he won’t make it or isn’t good enough.

It’s that before we get ahead of ourselves an anoint him the next captain in waiting. He needs to cement his spot in the side and then break out into a very good AFL player.

It’s looking pretty wild down there this morning

Flights and accomm extortionate too. And you wouldn’t respond to my request for a guest room so I pulled the pin 😤

It’s going to be tight for positions in our best 23. It’s going to create pressure and competition between our players, which is healthy and a sign of a good team. It’s exciting to see.
I think the same gets said every year and then after a loss or two and a few injuries we start say we have no depth , but do agree our list is looking a lot better than it has in years

Its all about supply and demand , Hotels are charging around 3 times the normal room rates when old Tay Tay is here next year , same for the GP

Our motel over the Gather Round was the same last year - so beware if anyone is heading over there.

Re the Captain discussion I dont think Steele is a natural leader and struggled with injury and his own form last season. What we did see from Jack in our final against GWS, it was his best game for the year he was huge. Personally I would prefer to have Wilkie & Steele as co-captains, I think one would compliment the other and take some pressure off Jack when required.

I think there are big and sometimes unrealistic expectations on current captains, so we should wait as a long as we can before considering handing the baton to one of the younger brigade. Who knows in that time we might have expereinced some sustained sucess.

I can’t see some blokes who were first picked in the middle getting a game tbh
Crouch wouldn’t be far off from not being a starter, jones as well
Dow and Wilson straight in

We're driving over with the kids... 2 nights in the Barossa then heading to Adelaide on the Saturday. Have booked at the airport hotel (25 min Uber to Norwood, 15 to the city). Airport hotel was about $500 a night. Nothing else under $1k a night unless you want to stay an hour out of the city.

If we have a really good season and show progression.

Crouch and Hill will be in and around the cusp of the selected side by years end.

In the eyes of the club.
