In terms of filled out...nope hasn't changed much at all, unfortunately. Fitness I'm not sure!
This is very disappointing. DGB needs to put on at least 5kg if he wants to take his game to the next level. And another 5kg if he wants to become a bonafide key forward.

78kg when drafted. (2020)
84kg start of this year. (2023)
Only put on 6kg over three years.

Should be aiming to be 90kg at the start of 2024. AND Needs to be 94kg to be a KF.

Tuck into some turkey over Christmas son!!!!!!!!

They used audio from a CD. I assume that the test was official. However since it was done in house can never be submitted as such. Yes it went well past 21. You can take it however you want it. Weddle was the only one running at this stage everyone else had dropped out

Edit: it was run by Burge

Absolutely the official Yoyo version 20m.

Upon checking it was Cox & Sam Walker that also completed the Beep test.
As I said… difference is Josh is a seriously good footballer.

The difference between the 2 are the small rest before going again.
Can set fatigue in real quick.

Starts with brown ends with low, if his performing at that level already
Hopefully not brown flow...

Sam Butler and Cam Mackenzie were mentioned as standouts during the off-season.

McDonald also stated it was the Yo-Yo Test, rather than the Beep Test... for what it's worth.

Differences between the Beep and Yo-Yo TestsThere is one version of the yo-yo test that is essentially the same as the beep test (the yo-yo endurance test level 1), but most yo-yo tests have a rest period after every 40m (2 x 20m) distance covered, compared to the beep test which is a continuous test.

It was a YoYo test
The recording they ran against was the beep test. It called out the levels, after the beep.
I’ve done a couple in my time just not for a very long time.

He doesn't need to be 95kg if we have him earmarked to be our 3rd tall to complement Chol/Lewis.

He might get there in time but he has elite athletic traits for a guy his size with speed, leap and agility. I'd hate to hamper that by bulking him up too heavily.

I'd rather DGB slowly pack on mass while being able to increase his tank. That's his biggest issue is getting to contests and ensuring his ahtletic traits shine throughout the whole game rather than just in the early moments.

Bulking up too quickly sets players like Worpel back a few years.

There was no real rest period however some players might have not started on the beep every time. Especially the weaker runners

I don’t think putting on weight will hinder his athletic traits. It’ll only be beneficial for his game.

I do agree he doesn’t necessarily have to be 95kg.

84kg for a third tall is just too light.

the season ended 2 months ago unless you're a total novice to lifting you aren't going to notice a big change in physique in that time

Most players put on most of their weight in the period between season end and official training beginning again - case in point Mitch Lewis who gained ~10kgs in that period. It's because they can focus on strength and power moves without having to also put stacks of miles in their legs (like they do during actual pre season training).

Wow I have never heard McDonald speak before, but he was really cool and articulate in this media outing today and his responses on Day 1 outstanding. Very impressive

It depends on the program. Schoey and Franklin put on weight during pre season.

true for some, not true for others. 10kg in two months is completely ridiculous, highly doubt that's true unless he's a genetic anomaly or he came back fat as ****. even 5kg of muscle in 2 months is pretty much unheard of without roids. actually probably even with roids too lol

i think especially with DGB he would've had a big off-season focus on fitness and endurance which is actually a bigger barrier to him playing footy than putting on size. so that would've negated the lack of calorie burning from training and gameplay.

plus the poster was completely anecdotal in suggesting DGB hadn't put on size. he might've increased his weight 2-4 kg which is fairly significant but wouldn't necessarily make him look bigger to someone without a before/after photo.
