Training 2024 Preseason reports and discussion

All on the track.
Chol, Gunston, Amon & Lewis in the far running group away from the main group with DGB, CJ & JOS.
McCabe was there as well.
Reeves light duties.
McCabe from a distance is a double for Ramma.
Bodie Ryan kicked nicely off both sides - no tank as yet.
Watson is sharp across the ground - more sprinting activity today.
From younger group, Serong, BMac & Stephens all were impressive with work ethic
Josh Ward was good today as well - putting the sprinting coach to work well with his increased speed and voice during drills.
Thanks for this update.

Given that we don't have a list spot to add a mature KPP, I am very interested to see how Serong develops this pre-season as he showed some promising signs last year.

Any insight on where DGB is training? Forward or Back?
I recall reading/hearing somewhere that, at his exit interview, he was told he would be training as a forward.

I hope that's still the plan, which may have changed following our F50 acquisitions and failure to get that free agent who went to Essendon, because I reckon DGB has shown more as a forward than as a defender thus far.

Yes, I think it was Newmo89 who said this.

Has most of the tools to be a great 2nd/3rd tall, now just needs the tank and size.

You'll find outside of Kosi Pickett, not many teams have them.

The days of Cyril and Poppy are hard to replicate.

Luckily Wiz and Ginni are very young, and have time to build that into their game. Wiz is super fast, so it won't be too difficult for him.

Reputation makes a big difference as well. These boys lay a few good tackles and suddenly opposition backs get all nervous when they have the ball. A large part of Poppy's and Cyril's influence was the fear that they were going to do something. A couple good tackles and these boys can develop the same.

Saw this listing out the coaches, didn't realise we have a NFL punter as a developmental coach( next tweet).

Is he teaching long range goal kicking or goal kicking in general + more?.

Butler is expected to improve next year and push his case for a spot in the best 22. So far most of the pre-season training reports have been positive.

The addition of Ginnivan & Watson, plus at some point during the second half of next year there’s a good chance that Bennetts will play some games as well.

For the first time in a while I feel like there’s good competition for spots at the small forward position.

Hopefully now Moore can split his time playing as a half forward/midfielder. He put up really impressive numbers in 2022 when he attended some centre bounces.

What training reports have you seen?
I'm currently content starved for Hawthorn!

Reckon Butler has a proverbial mountain to climb to make it to best 22. Same goes for JOS and Bennetts.

Cost Philly the SB.

And yet, he was good enough to be selected to have the opportunity to cost Philly the SB.

Jonah Hill No GIF by The Taboo Group

Weather slightly better than yesterday.
Pretty standard session - Lewis, Chol, Gunston, Amon, Reeves (& CJ on/off he did some of the main group) were on the modified duties.
First real look at McCabe - moved really well for his size & his speed looked good in the run throughs.
Like the look of Ryan - looks to kick well on both sides.
Chad was there with his boots on but hung out with the coaches.

Wonder if Chad is doing his coaching courses. I could see him working his way up those ranks in the coming years once he is done playing.

Siposs teaching kick passes which are hard for intercept defenders to pick off? But somehow our fwds have the key to marking?

My son went this morning (I taught him well 😂) said that DGB looks bigger so I have got my fingers 🤞 crossed that this is the case. He said the wiz is pretty exciting to watch …… even if it was just training.
I saw in the clip of the guys doing run throughs DGB did look bigger, like he had filled out a bit more through the shoulders.
It was only doing a run through so hard to know for sure but fingers crossed.
