Hawks Social team have posted "I Spent A Day With Jai Newcombe" & is now LIVE in YouTube!

The Yo Yo test details are referenced around the 15 min mark

Enjoy

Obviously love the Newc in this, love seeing the players, but the best part about it is overall how good we are with every footy department person mingling at the club. I can imagine it wouldn't be difficult to fall into structures where the players and coaches are seen as unapproachable, clubs have certainly gone that way in the past. Helps to be a young and down to earth squad!

Also hitting us with The Pot by Tool for the Yo Yo test. Banger of a song.

Not to derail the thread but The Pot is possible the greatest tool song ever. And I say that as a long time tool fan.
EDIT: in case you're wondering, I was not born in '95.

Absolutely, it's probably one of my top 3 favourites of theirs with Eulogy and Prison Sex.

The overall playlist of that video has some genuine gym time bangers:

Get Free - The Vines
No Happy Ever After - BFMV
The Pot - Tool
Becoming the Bull - Atreyu
Headstrong - Trapt

And when the players watch this back they'll be like 'WTF?' because there wasn't any modern hip hop or electronic music littered throughout it.

I feel like a real old man saying that, but whatever.

They did squeeze a Post Malone song in there but it was one of his less poppy ones.

He does look bigger - to start with, then you realise it's Ambrosio 20m behind him - and Ambrosio looks bigger!

He's put a bit on, but nothing to suggest he will contain Tom hawkins and Co.

It's his fitness anyway that's the area of concern - he can get to 100+KG, but if he can only run out 40% of a game - nothing changes.

Can trackwatchers tell us if he looks to have added some endurance?
Thanks!
Yes I’m more interested to know if he still gets gassed walking down the race

Big props to the social media team, that was some top level content. Would love to see a few more throughout the preseason as we build towards round 1.
Currently Gold Coast have the best social media content by a long margin, but I think we've got the best long form content currently!

What was playing during the Yo Yo test? It reminded me of Porcupine Tree. (I’ve got all later PT albums in hires 5.1 and their last album in Atmos).

The Pot, one of Tool's better known songs. From 10,000 days.

Good call with Porcupine Tree, but not correct.

Yeah, Steven Wilson goes ok. ;)

Brett Ratten spoke on the Talking Hawks podcast about the main drivers at the club this pre season. Newcombe, Day and Moore were spoken about as being the main drivers of the younger brigade.
He also spoke about how Jai Serong has really impressed him and that he’s looking forward to seeing him doing really good things in 2024.

I think it’ll take some time. It’s next to impossible to put on 5+kg of muscle in a few short months whilst also building significant endurance. Particularly someone like DGB who’s struggled there to begin with.

Yeah that is an impossible task for someone just looking to add mass, adding in he needs to also be an elite level endurance athlete just makes the task more ridiculous. He looks to have put on a little size which is nice but i am way more worried about his endurance at this stage than his size. If any one thing is going to give him more of a chance of making a significant stride this season it is having the ability to run out quarters and games.
