In one of the recent podcasts either sleepy mark or rob mc was very positive about Butler. Gave me renewed hope he may breakout next season. I do scratch my head a bit about you saying he needs to learn how to naturally kick goals. He’s good for a goal a week and has a freakish knack of kicking a goal a week in a highly unconventional manner…which suggests to me he’s got it in his DNA. Clearly he needs to elevate his fitness level to be midfield capable to learn to win more ball.

He doesnt find space in the forward fifty. He doesnt take many uncontested marks. These are signs he doesnt know how to shake his opponent. Might not be a great reader of the play as a hff. If he can learn to put himself into dangerous positions more often he has the talent to be a damaging player. The if is whether or not he can learn that part of the game.

Seems a decent option at his height, and those hands in traffic just seem to naturally keep up with intense speed of the game. Jumped Long and Stephens in the pecking order by the end of his first season, which says a bit about those two players, but also a very decent effort so early in his career. Will need to develop ability to win on the outside as well, but an interesting watch. We are stacked for midfielders but being first in the pecking order will give him opportunities at the same time.

B. MacDonald is another of the later speculative picks we've done that has something, and one I'm interested in next season. Has some serious AFL quality speed, even quicker than Seamus running off the back flank, just needs to hone a few things with disposal and working on defensive game. Definitely will be watched closely by other clubs as well this season.

That game against Melbourne, towards the city end, he was in a couple of contests where he weighted these perfect handballs out of trouble to men running. Then Worpel butchered it by hand twice in the next contest and it really showed me how good Henry can be.

As good as Nash is (and no I’m not a nash hater) I can see Henry pushing him out by years end which wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

When is a player improving and pushing out another player ever a bad thing?

That said, wouldn't think this is a chance at happening unless Nash regresses severely. In terms of his player rating he was in fairly solid company.

Who knows? We have a lot of height in the midfield, but they are not necessarily players who play tall. I guess some are kids who played as mid fielders who grow late and 'bigly', Nash played a different code completely. I don't know how often a tall mid has successfully turned into a true KPP, more informed folks than me might know.

They are both excellent by hand but in different ways. HH is much better overhead but that won't be of much advantage in the rotations.

Nash has serious toe too and a great defensive brain around stoppages. The one real knock on Hustwaite is that he doesn't have pace, which maeans he really can't play the same role as Nash. Can see them both working well at the same stoppages though.

Remember the game early in the season when he was the sub. We were pretty much done and dusted but he came in all guns blazing. Oppo supporter asked who is the guy making it look like a barrel of monkeys was being unloaded.

I think Nash’s physical presence is elite. KP size but moves like a mid …… his rugby union and Gaelic footy smarts are starting to align and kick in with Aussie rules. Liked listening to Worps recently talking about his dislike being matched up against him in training drills as he was getting hit hard by tackles closer to his neck than his hips.

Since the three peat side we were getting bullied and beat up in the middle by the best sides I hated it …… no more of this
