I'm gonna do a side by side comparison for what I hope our best 23 looks like from the start of the year to the end:

R1..................................................................... R23
B. Scrimshaw Blanck Impey................................. B. Scrimshaw Blanck Mitchell
HB. Amon Sicily Jiath ......................................... HB Amon Sicily Jiath
C. Ward Mackenzie Weddle .................................C Macdonald Newc Weddle
HF. Moore Lewis Hardwick ................................... HF Moore Lewis Ginnivan
F. Watson Chol Breust...........................................F Watson Chol Hardwick

Foll. Reeves Day Newcombe .................................Foll. Reeves Day Ward
IC. Worpel Ginnivan Nash MacDonald..................... IC. Mackenzie Worpel Nash DGB
Sub: D'Ambrosio .................................................Sub Impey

I dream of a situation where round 23 sees us starting in ninth, but thanks to a 13 goal haul to Hardwick (13 straight, mind you) we resign Clarko to another off-season begging for handouts as they finish with the spoon again and we leapfrog Collingwood into the eighth spot on the ladder.
It might be a long year for us, but I think it's going to be a very exciting year given where our young side is at.

PS: putting formatting aside I agree

How do we get games into McKenzie and Hustwait in 2024?

To me they look like centre square mids. Not dynamic enough to play on the flanks or wings to great effect.

Can they push into the mix over pre season?

Are Worps and Nash, the bash and crash brothers, too valuable to not have in there 90% of the time to do the heavy lifting? They don't have the ability to play the flanks either and lack the polish of the younger 2 with ball in hand.

Are we still another season away from any changing of the status quo?

Interesting to see how this plays out. Injuries will play a role. Whoever is cherry ripe will push for a spot. Good problem to have.

Hustwaite is 195cm and capable overhead. He played as a defender for much of his junior career and went forward to good effect in his only two senior games last season. Overall, he seems very versatile and could propably play a role on any part of the ground, especially as he builds his core strength.

I see McKenzie as an inside/outside mid. He is capable in traffic but you also want him in space so that he can make best use of his foot skills.

I agree with you that Nash and Worpel are at their best in the engine-room. However, Day and Newcombe can be damaging forward or back. There will be opportunities for Husthwaite and McKenzie to contribute to the midfield rotations if their form warrants selecttion. I am guessing that 2024 will be a development year for both but it will be a bonus if either becomes best 22 during the coming season. They also provide good cover in the event of injury to one of the regular mids.

our legends of the past use to have a right old time at the edgy on a Wednesday - drugs have been done by a lot of players. The issue with Ginny is even if he was just up and about people would assume drugs

Kids will be kids. They all do it.
I very much doubt they all do it. And those that do don’t do it as openly and get caught as easily as Ginni did. You’d think after being caught once he’d learn his lesson.

There is definitely a drug problem both within the AFL and the broader community that gets swept under the rug though.

Yep. Doing it out in the open sounds like a guy that doesn’t care. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

Some of you guys would’ve have a conniption if you’d ever gone out with Gibbo.

Nose beers in December is an AFL players right of passage.
