Genuine question. Google results are jam packed with articles across all the shitty news media. Does anyone know the worst thing Ginnivan has supposedly done while using drugs?

As far as I'm aware there's no reports of him being violent, damaging property, sexual misconduct or driving under the influence.
Yeah, he has given some dud tips at the races.
Do better Ginni.

I’m not too fussed if players muck up and let loose a bit here and there, as long as they perform. If Ginni comes back and kicks 30+ goals this year, I’ll be more than happy.

If it affects his performance, very different story….

Ginni's biggest issue is that he isn't athletically gifted enough to not be doing everything he can to be the best athlete possible.

A player in his position should be doing everything possible to maximise his discipline if he wants a long and successful career.

The problem is that he probably prefers the balance of hard work and party time. On a personal level, that's his choice to make.
Not everybody can be Ben Cousins or Clayton Oliver though. Being absolute party animals and some of the best players in the league simultaneously.

He got caught using drugs
That's what I thought. :thumbsu:

I find it hard to believe that someone with his profile who seemingly lacks discretion in allegedly being seen taking substances would somehow gain the ability to be discrete with his behaviour while on them. So either he's not taking drugs as often as is made out, or he is and his behaviour while on them isn't a problem. In either case people should just leave him alone.

Just heard Sam Hargreaves on SEN one of his big predictions for the year is a three way tie in the Brownlow ……. Bont, Nick Daicos and the boy from Poowong. He thinks that he’s got game from bursting out of packs drilling it long into the forward line, he’s tough and wins his own ball, can play inside and outside and has got the long hair and the umps will notice him more 👍🤞
Pretty sure Sam Hargreaves is a Hawks supporter and so he monitors them a bit closer than most journos.

The Jet From Poowong - he defintely has the match winning capabilities to do it which will become even harder for media to ignore in 2024.

It’s not just Ginnivan and Oliver.

It’s a large slice of these professional athletes aged 18 - 35, who won’t get tested over these 3 weeks, have heaps of disposable cash and a desire not to put on weight during offseason break.

I’d be very surprised if less than half of our list aren’t engaging in recreational drugs between Xmas and 10/1.

Don’t like it, wish it wasn’t happening, but not naive to it happening. It’s what they do nowadays instead of sinking 🍺🍺🍺

Beers are like $15 in some joints now (esp places like festivals and anywhere AFL players will want to gather). Makes total sense why people steer towards it, plus you’re genuinely more in control of your thoughts, feelings and emotions on that s**t over alcohol.

Not saying it’s a good thing but the alternative is sinking 12 beers and making a knob of yourself out of control like lakey

I think there's a fair bit to pick apart in this behaviour, but my gut take is:

1/ Drugs are now prevalent. They may still be illegal, but it's so prevalent the laws are a bit of a joke.
2/ My (uneducated) guess is that doing some blow will actually keep you in better form than doing beers. Beers add a lot more weight, etc.

You're not incorrect in any of this.

However the fact still remains that these guys are paid massive wages, with part of their contract stating not to partake in illegal recreational drug use.

They're going to of course. And on a personal level I don't really care. However from a professional aspect it frustrates me and I feel no sympathy for players who are caught.

As I've stated in other threads, plenty of bush footballers stay off the gear to get the best out of themselves. If it's good enough to expect it from them then it's DEFINITELY good enough to expect it from the true professionals.

He was still carrying his puppy fat, so maybe he is doing everything to lose it by partying hard.

Agree. In my experience, people generally don’t turn drug use on an off throughout a year, so the ones doing it during the offseason are likely doing it during the season as well, running the risk of multi year bans if caught in their system on game day.

Ginnivan better understand one thing. His position up fwd is very much up for grabs.
Screw Around with drugs and it's bye bye career.

Let's not forget that he could end up a bad influence on our youngsters.
I hope not. If so, enjoy a few weeks at Box Hill.

When’s he expected to return? Still mid year?
He ruptured it in August 2023 so with the recovery time anywhere from 9 to 12 months I'd say somewhere around May to July which could be anywhere between rounds 8 and 16. I assume this is just recovery time though and not including a mini preseason which would likely tack on another 3-4 weeks. I'd say if all goes well and the recovery time is closer to the 9 months + 3-4 week mini preseason the earliest we could see Chad back is round 10 or 11.

Mates daughter just got back from BTV and said Ginni openly taking drugs there for what is worth! Hope he gets his sh$t together
It's pretty disappointing if he's that stupid to be blatantly doing it in front of everyone to see.
How reliable is your mates daughter as a source and which drugs was he suppose to be doing ?

Ginnivan, probably number 3 on the "wait for them to mess up" list (behind Oliver and Smith) supposedly doing all these things in public but no photos? Seriously? Not even grainy photos?

Bailey Smith doesn't deserve to be on that list.

I actually believe his explanation about his 21/22 summer exploits. The hubs and the losing grand final wrecked the lad and he made a couple of mistakes.
Historically he's one of the cleanest kids ever drafted. Lost friends because he refused to drink with them. Did everything he could to get on an AFL list.

Actually felt a lot of sadness for him when the news of his ACL injury broke.
