Umpires have been instructed to reduce the time given for players to dispose of the ball during a tackle. Our game will be the test case I guess now. Let’s hope we bring our tackle game v port. Opportunity to get a heap of extra frees.

This is not what the umpires need to fix however. The issue is with dropping the ball and incorrect disposal while being tackled. This game could be an angry one.

Port is the only top 8 side at the pointy end of that list, doesn’t appear to be a particularly useful stat.

Port might have played some particularly porous teams... North, WC, Hawks, Tigs, etc.

Hard to read their form line outside of their outstanding Geel win.

But we've never won at Adelaide oval against an SA team.

Not overly confident going in but I wasn't against Bris either.

Would this be a better win than beating Brisbane up there?

The in the back rule has also all but disappeared.

Tackle a player - drive him forward into the ground and no free kick.

Totally agree.

Our game will create more debate about the issue.

But isn’t this a rumour - shouldn’t we wait for the club’s official injury report, before spreading unfounded rumours about McGovern?
Injury report yesterday Mcgov not on it

Agree, incorrect disposal is the biggest blight on the game whether that’s in a tackle or perfecting the crow throw but it’s particularly frustrating in a tackle

The Curnow one is more about protecting the player from injury which is a byproduct of the tackle and suspension interpretations costing players weeks on the sideline suspended.
It’s actually a great example of the game sorting itself out and working with the new interpretations, which is what would happen if the umps just paid incorrect disposal all of the time.

Problem is, they’ll go hard this week and by finals time it will be back to what it was last week which is the ultimate frustration🤬

That would never of happened if the umpire had actually paid a free kick to Curnow for the blatant push in the back from Andrew as he was attempting to mark. That's what the commentators should have been asking, not the holding the ball decision

Hawks lost by 1 point to them at AO in the dying seconds a few weeks ago, I’m sorry no excuses if we fail again at AO. This is a mini final

I would really love for us to break the cycle this week and beat and Adelaide team at Adelaide Oval.

Connor Rozee being out/playing underdone will help us immensely and hopefully the HTB changes will also

Agree.

While Weiters, Saad, Newman, McG, Kemp, Cowan and Boyd keep building as a defensive unit, why wouldn’t we keep playing Williams on the forward line?

Looked dangerous around the contest, and that last goal he kicked was a beauty….even the clip around the head from a defender didn’t put him off.
Weiters seemed to think he'd be staying forward as it's working. ( interview)

Hope everyone is ready to lose their minds with umpirwe decisions tomorrow nite.😂

Seems to me they oughta fix incorrect disposal.

100 percent.

The adjudication of this at the moment is diabolical. Saw Cripps just let go of the ball in one tackle because he knows the umpires will call play on. It's getting ridiculous and is a blight on the game.

With the announced changes to HTB expect some hot holding the ball calls in this game.

Thursday night primetime, everyone will be watching to see what the new interpretation looks like. The AFL knows this and will want to set the tone for the weekend.
Monsieur Cripps May need to unload a little faster as he circumnavigates!

I am a bit unsure about this rule change/adjustment/interpretation. Let's see what it looks like in practice.

Personally I think if a player is strong enough to stand up in a tackle, have his arms free, and take his time to get an effective disposal away, then he shouldn't be punished.

If the tackler pins the arms, and the ball is dropped, or can't be disposed of. Thats when you need to reward the tackler.
