Would have preferred Motlop ofc but at least they haven't changed the structure a whole lot. Assuming one of Durdin/Fantasia is the sub

Voss rates Fantasia. We all rated Fantasia on here too around preseason time. He hasn't delivered a lot. Most of us have jumped off the Fantasia train. The difference is Voss is patient than we are.

Durdin came on last game and was good, probably took his chance. Here's another player we rate internally at Carlton. Go back to 2022 he was looking like being a real gun. He's had a season and a half of injury and down form. We would all love him to take off where he left off in 2022. Another player who Voss is being patient with.

Motlop is a talented player who has struggled with endurance and hasn't ever been great with forward pressure. He's coming back from a long lay off. We all want to see him in the side. But making him really earn it. Deliver us goals, possessions and pressure at VFL consistently then come back fit and motivated. That's good for everyone.

Fogarty has form, Owies is consistent at his level. I think we will be good to go here.

In fairness to him, Fantasia was looking okay in that role when he played the last couple of games. Carroll just couldn’t get near it unfortunately against the dons. Could it be Mots and Owies fighting for the same spot?
Yep, didn't get enough of it but used it well when he got it and was probably involved in scoring chains as a result. Fantasia's one wood was pace as he's never been a physical player. His pace is gone, doesn't appear to apply much pressure and is yet to kick a goal this season. I'd rather keep investing in a young fella who has shown some good glimpses at times this year.

Yep and they will look to blow TDK up chasing him around all night.
They will also be worried about TDK ripping the game away from them.

We have a few individual match winners in our side. Curnow is one. McKay. Weitering and Cripps. DeKoning is one who has been added to the list this season. He's one of our match winners now. If TDK is getting 20+ possessions, big clearances and a threat up forward like he has been he could rip their heart out.

I reckon they will be worried more about TDK then we will be about Bilcavs. Especially if TDK starts grabbing it out of the ruck and roving his own work like he has been doing.

If he runs him around a bit then TDK goes forward more and McKay rucks more. Which is fine by me. McKay is very good on the ball.

Carrol had 5 touches. Orazio usually gets double that while using it well too

I've watched back the games and the devil is in the detail with Kemp. People are slightly blinded by his spectacular intercept marks which are pretty damn good. But he can definitely get done body-on-body and did in the bombers game against at best average forwards.

When talking about Kemp the context is whether his role is as an inrerceptor or more defensive lockdown. And the context that Mcgovern is an interceptor too complicates things. And going fwd we'd like to see Weitering do more intercepting as he is better quality than Kemp if given the chance.

If Kemp is given the intercept role and gets a free run at the ball...then fair enough. If he gets a body on body lockdown role, others assigned intercept roles, then his spot in the side is at risk.

Having said all that, he is a lock right now given alternatives. Austin should be trying to solve this conundrum of all our KPDers being more of the interceptor ilk than defence first.

I think it's a bit of an archaic mindset to consider Player A is lockdown and Player B is intercept.

It's all about team defence now. You can get away with one anchor defender who lacks a bit of mobility (for us that's Weiters), but around that player you need a mix of athletic guys who can do a bit of everything. One play Kemp might need to come third man up over Hawkins, the next he might need to trail Cameron up the ground, and the next he might have to pick up Dangerfield when he drifts forward.

Kemp's greatest strength at the moment is his versatility. His biggest weakness is that he's played only 34 games and is still developing his craft. He got outbodied or outpositioned by Langford the other week? Might have something to do with Langford having 4 years and 100+ games on him...

Invest the time now and in 4-5 years Kemp is going to be towelling up less experienced forwards and creating a heap of drive off half back for us.

My concern is Blicavs getting away from TDK around the ground as an extra midfielder, TDK exposes bigger slower ruckman usually, this will be a different challenge for him and our entire midfield group remembering they had us for speed last time.
