Halfway through a round?

Update please - No need to be disingenuous to support your argument.
You're being the disingenuous one. At the time I posted it was correct. And Merrett is still ahead in the coaches votes which I rate higher than the Brownlow so run along.

So why did you post the Brownlow votes halfway through a round to support an argument about one of your team's players if you don't rate it?

You really are very simple aren't you? I didn't say I didn't rate it. I said I rated the coaches votes higher.

Merrett is the starting rover. He’s 2nd in coaches and AA votes, the rest of this post is just your unappreciated sprog decorating the keyboard.
having an excellent year.

And 12th best mid based on player ratings for 2024, ranked around the 30th mark for clearances, contested possessions, with a whopping 6 goals to his name. Starting AA rover .

If Hayward keeps this form up he might sneak into a forward pocket

View attachment 1986868

He seems to be relishing the extra space afforded to him by Heeney playing further up the field this year
22 combined goals/assists for Hayward.

28 combined goals/assists for Stengle.

Stengle has 10 more score involvements.

Geelong don't have a strong midfield to service him. Hayward has an ultra elite midfield servicing him.

What are AA votes?

Dylan Moore having a sneaky good year after having a third of his preseason wiped out with glandular fever.
Rankine will be on 1 HFF and the other one will go to a mid who has kicked goals

Harris Andrews is 1st in the league for 1%ers and 2nd in the league for intercepts and 3rd in the league for contested marks and he's hardly been mentioned all season for the AA spot - he's probably winning our B&F atm. Feels like he has set such a high bar for himself he doesn't get noticed as much as he should.

He and Sam Taylor should be the AA tall backs atm.

The goals + goal assists interested me so I decided to look at ruckmen and who might be in AA contention.

That's really interesting and helps the discussion on whether you want to go for a pure tap ruck (HO and HTS% - O'Brien or maybe English lead that), an in the middle guy (Clearances - Xerri or Marshall) or a marking guy (English or Gawn).

But at the same time its clear that Gawn is close to the top on pretty much every category so to me is the clear front runner

I'd agree about Gawn, which leads to the fascinating question of do you have a 2nd ruck on the bench who is the next best ruckman or do you have the best genuine 2nd ruckman in that spot? Guys like McLean, Darcy, Dixon, Tracey and Wright who all have around 10 goals, over 40 hitouts and around 25% HTA

Good on you for having a go. For us I think Miers is in contention for the squad. Zuthrie might be more likely than Stewart at this point in time.

Gawn with McKay giving him a chop out would be my inclination at this point in time.

Any normal, unbiased, informed and educated AFL supporter would acknowledge that Merrett is the clear second best midfielder in the AFL.

Let bias divert your eyes but he is as much a lockety lock as Heaney is right now

My first thought was out King (Gold Coast), in Gryan Miers (Geelong)

Miers just getting the job done with minimal of fuss

Miers, Holmes, Stengle and Zuthrie have been our most consistent high level performers.

Miers and Holmes have been in our best players basically every week.

Cameron's best was the best of all of them but he has been just okay 3 of the last 4 weeks.

Stengle has had more good games than Cameron at this point.

There isn't much between Zuthrie and Stewart other than Zuthrie's strongest form is most recent so it makes more sense for him to be in a "rolling" squad.

Goals and assists combined round 9:

1. Charlie Curnow 33 (27/6)
2. Jesse Hogan 32 (26/6)/Aaron Naughton (20/12)
4. Izak Rankine 30 (19/11)
5. Jeremy Cameron 29 (20/9)
6. Tyson Stengle 28 (18/10)
7. Kyle Langford 27 (24/3)/Jake Waterman (24/3)/Harry McKay (23/4)/Christian Petracca (10/17)

Admittedly I don't have in my rolling squad but the constant talk of Naughton being overrated or a dud is silly. Consistently strong for score involvements and combined goals/assists. He did fill his boots in two thrashings (6 goals/assists in the thrashing of St Kilda, 7 against the Tigers) but that's the case with most gun forwards.

Yeah but some people think he might be a star defender, and isn't a star forward. Crazy, right?

Seeing a lot of Charlie at FF. Not often the Coleman winner misses but it is not unheard of and his game outside of his few goals a week has been pretty poor. Maybe it’s just his lofty standards but he is off. Hogan has been just as good if not better.

McKay is the one at CHF that should be a lock and I don’t think we deserve two KPF as it stands.
