So this is Newscorp papers prediction. It is really hard to argue with this team tbh. If it was me I would put Bowes and Mannagh into the 22 for Neale and MOC and have MOC sub. But I reckon match committee more likely to stick with this Newscorp team that mine - other than maybe Neale (although some will argue we need that extra height against Saints so maybe he does get a shot?)

I figured everyone saw it the other day but i'll post what i said again.

Just for anyone curious, Clark's stats yesterday were:

17 disposals at 94.1% efficiency (TEAM HIGH)
10 contested possessions (TEAM HIGH)
6 intercept possessions (2nd highest on team)
5 free kicks for (TEAM HIGH)
4 tackles (2nd highest on team)
4 clearances (2nd highest on team)

Any naysayers about Jhye Clark and not picking him for Round 1 are crazy.
There's been a few here criticising his disposal which as per above should quiet that noise down.

He has more than proven he's ready to go!

That's why...

Not knocking your assessment but it was a practice match. I was rapt with his game, but Bowes had 30% TOG, Atkins 38%, Danger 65%, Bruhn 66%, Duncan 71%, Blicavs 77%. I know Clark only had 69% himself, but I don't think he's going to be getting that many midfield minutes when the real stuff rolls around.

I don't feel too strong in my convictions here though, as I said before, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the starting 22. I just think we should, and probably will, preference Atkins, Bruhn, Bowes, Danger, Blicavs, Duncan, Holmes if we're shooting for a flag... and we are always shooting for a flag.

I think most posters on this board would be very flat to see Bowes as sub.

I don't think you can realistically argue Neale improves us right now. He's a long way behind Hawkins and Cameron as a key forward. With Henry and Dempsey as marking options we don't need him forward. And he's a long way behind Blicavs as 2nd ruck.

Bowes would be unbelievably stiff not to be in the starting 22. And I think Tuohy would be stiff not to at least be sub.

Unless I’ve missed an injury to Tuohy he will certainly be in the 22.

What did Bowes do in the Carlton match-sim? Stats wise
12 disposals, 5 inside 50s, 4 score involvements, 3 clearances and 4 tackles from 30% game time.

It's not as simple as extrapolating to 75% as he came on against tired players, but he certainly made a good impact when he came on.

These are the stats form the Essendon game when he played very few minutes, not the Carlton match sim.

Against Carlton in the match sim he played a lot more gametime and collected a lot more of the ball. Exactly how much, I'm not sure. I don't think they kept official stats because it wasn't an official practice match, although I'm sure the club would have these details internally.

Sorry, my mistake. Yes, Bowes was very good against Carlton. I was a big advocate of his last year, and his game in the midfield against the Bulldogs solidified him as a quality midfielder in my assessment.

Though, there are always less obvious factors at play with match committee. Who knows if he is doing what the coaching staff is asking of him. I'll be holding my breath until round 1 selection, hoping he's picked.

I missed that the new corp team didn’t have 2E. I agree he will start the year in the 23 - not 100% sure he will stay there all year?

I think he definitely plays - he very much looks like the player we hoped he would be this season - he looks super lean and strong and is playing with a newfound confidence.
We never reveal all our cards preseason and I reckon he's one of those this year - suspect the MC and coaches would be chuffed with where he is at now :thumbsu:

Given the saints only really just run marshall and no real part time ruck with him I think we will probably not play Neale.

I’m more confident than most that he will.

If 2E does stay there then I hope it is because he is “doing a smith” or “Selwood even better”! in his final year. Ie. Massive contribution and keeping out that next level. I am ok with that.

But I think (and just a view) that more likely he goes the Dal and Higgins way and is overtaken - which again is ok if those have earned it.

Rohan I have same view and Duncan maybe he has more than that in him?

If I had my perfect view it would be that Dempsey goes clear past Rohan (again not due to Rohan decline), Bowes clear past 2E (versatile and in MF) and with Holmes dominating off half back it puts pressure on Duncan to turn back the clock to keep others out?
going to be a very interesting watch

Love: Neale in (though I personally wouldn't be playing him)

Loathe: Bowes sub. Why?!

His birthday is starting to count as an injury in the eyes of many

First rule of bigfooty is it's better to be young than good!

He didn't have a great year last year but I think he was still comfortably best 22. Hopefully he gets back to his best this year. Ideally he has a great year but we're good enough to give him a block of games off to keep him fresh and give the youngsters a chance.

I feel like he's tapering off, but he's slowly tapering off from great height

Those older players will play desperately early for some wins - which is great…knowing that if the team looks well off the pace at half way the priority will shift to the future…. Personally I think we will get off to a good start but…

As with anything, it's much harder as you age to maintain the rage and intensity for as long.
