Mega AFL trade state of play: Every club, player and deal as frantic final days loom

BRISBANE LIONS

The Lions did important draft-points-relevant business on Friday, filing official trades with Richmond and then Carlton. By offloading Pick 20 to the Tigers — for picks 32, 42, 43 and 45 across the second and third rounds — Brisbane accumulated 792 points to aid its acquisitions of father-son Levi Ashcroft and academy product Sam Marshall in November. Further, the Lions sent Pick 73 and a future second-rounder to the Blues for Picks 34 and 66. Looking forward, the premier’s main query remains how it replaces Joe Daniher. Football boss Danny Daly effectively ruled out hunting a big fish this off-season as it seeks apt support for Eric Hipwood and Logan Morris, as well as the 22-year-old Henry Smith and 26-year-old Brandon Ryan. Daly also confirmed the Lions wouldn’t pursue uncontracted St Kilda veteran Tim Membrey, saying on AFL Trade Radio: “No, we haven’t gone down the path of (Membrey) as yet … Right here and now, I wouldn’t say that he would be (a consideration), no.” Delisted ex-Fremantle forward Matt Taberner could put his hand up for another AFL opportunity if he can prove his health. Elsewhere, speedy onballer Harry Sharp has reportedly requested a trade to Melbourne after just 16 senior matches in four seasons at Springfield — he is likely to yield a late pick or pick swap, helping them add more draft points. Western Australian midfielder Deven Robertson is also set to test the trade market across these last few days of the exchange period. If he were to head to the West Coast Eagles, for example, he would likely yield a later pick this year or next. That said, he is contracted for next season and isn’t getting quite as much interest as he did 12 months ago from a different list management group at the Eagles. Unsigned utility Jaxon Prior is another who could head for the exits, with Essendon reportedly having expressed interest — but he could also walk as a delisted free agent.
