List spots are going to be super tight for us at the end of the year.

Just on our commitments we have 5 spots going to Cole, Hoffman, Peckett, Hall, and a Sandy player.

If we then take 3 picks to the national draft, we'll need to free up at least 8 spots.

That's before any players traded in, which you'd think would be at least 1 (Campbell replacement), but more likely 2 (a young mid who isn't getting enough opportunities elsewhere, similar to Henry or Steele etc).

So that's 8-10 list spots needed. Pretty wild. You'd assume the following 5 are almost certain:

Ross
Hayes
Crouch
Allison
Paton

But where do the other 3-5 come from?

Being in our academy doesnt mean we have a commitment to take any of Cole, Hoffman or Peckett.

We won't draft them just for the sake of it or get rid of players from the list just to fit them in.

re hayes,if we dont offer him a contract, but dont delist him, does that mean another club can just take him for nothing?

we need list spots so very happy for him to go,but would love some kind of pick for him, would it be in our interest to offer him the absolute minimum for 1 year, then if there is interest assume the other club are willing to go a little higher and maybe 2 years so he will go & then we can get something for him,or at worst get stuck with him for 1 year on the bare minimum

but a 4th,even a late 3rd could be handy for our own dumpster diving,or to use on one our f/s nga boys

No club is giving up anything for Hayes. A 3rd rounder! 😂

I doubt we take a sandy play. We will play it off as part of the old administrations plans to save face. No one is really worth picking up.

So Membrey is UFA?

Would we get any compensation our way?

Just turned 30 but is still kicking 30 goals a year .... what sort of contract would Dees be offering him?

What would they need to offer him to trigger a compensation pick? .... if he does leave

Very likely it’d be close to zero compo. His age and small contract would mean that if we got compo pick at all it’d be very late.

So if anything ... end of 2nd round or more likely 3rd rounder ... which is better than nothing

Assuming Membrey is looking for a longer term contract .... not sure what we are offering ... maybe just 1 year? ... so if he gets 2 or 3 from the Dees you would think he would leave .... 3 years may trigger a compo pick but his age is a worry as they take that into account

Heaven forbid we give a young guy an opportunity to make it at a high level and try and incentivize higher level recruits to sandy at the same time. Such a shitty ****ing attitude.

Where's the shitty ****ing attitude? Talk about an unnecessary comment.

We aren't a ****ing charity. I get the theory, attract better talent for Sandy by handing out a list spot to one of a dozen or so players when we should be picking from a pool of thousands. The better talent helps our kids develop, I get it.

Only problem is that a player like Wilkie (prior to being drafted) would never come half way across the country to play VFL. In fact, most players we've attracted already have a Sandy connection.

I will categorically say the 'experiment' didn't work this year. Noone at Sandy deserves a list spot and if we got a gun in who kills it, chances are we don't get access to them prior to a nothing rookie spot that we've promised someone.

It's ****ing stupid, it's all rainbows and butterflies in theory, but in practice it's dumb when list spots are so hard to come by.

It was only announced last year, it would be pretty pathetic to back-flip on it already. It is a long term plan to get better VFL players at Sandy, and the cost being one category a rookie spot isn't that bad. Allison has been on our main list for 4 years, I think we will be fine with Hipwell or the like being on our rookie list for 1 year.

Hotton is in trouble.

Well done to Liam Stocker in triggering another contract. Give him 3 years. He won't be expensive and is a solid citizen with a bit more to give.

It’s astonishing the lack of talent that Sandy has recruited for a decade! When were we last in the finals? The Mitch Brown (the forward) era?

Won't some of those spots be actually completed in the draft?
So we would use draft picks to pick up some of those? So we may 4-5 draft picks with 2-3 being the players mentioned?
Then maybe a rookie as well?

Stocker triggers an extension for 2025

Well-deserved, a key part of our side over the past couple of season. Huge scope for this guy if he can improve his tank, a wildcard for our midfield going forward. Big pre-season incoming

I don't think all of those 5 will necessarily get taken. The club will be prioritising talant over warm fuzzies and if that means we take 5 better prospects then it's a good outcome.

It's hard to find who's actually a rookie but l think the candidates are Coops, Moose, Stocker, Bonner and Hayes.
Coops and Moose are due for upgrading and Hayes is gone, maybe Bonner too. That will free up at least 3 spots for Hall, Peckett and the Sandy player whist there's a cat B spot for Hoffman.

So 4 of the aforementioned need a spot, plus 3 draftees = 7.
Battle is a 1-1 scenario so can be ommitment from consideration.

Allison
Hayes
Crouch
Ross
Pato
Hotton = 6

Then some harder decisions. One of:
Membrey
Campbell
Bonner (this one)
Jones
If we can bring in a trades then others in this second group can go or maybe we even lose someone like Byrnes or Hunts.

Well deserved Liam Stocker. Lyon asks him to do a job, he goes and does it.

His job on Heeney was great, his tightening up on the centre bounces on Danger and Stewart was instrumental in changing the game. Directly responsible for 3 goals in the 3rd qtr.

Nup.
Have you seen our games won stat when Hunter plays?
Also Ronnie. He’s one of those hard-working role players RTB loves. Can’t see him going.

I don't want to lose them either. Just throwing names up.
Byrnes has no market value. He's a role player. Late 3rd rounder at best

Clark is rated internally, but other clubs will be iffy about paying up for him considering his inconsistencies the past few years
