We have absolutely zero fat.
We should probably lose Membrey, Seb, Jones Allison and consider Hotton and Heath if they don't have the goods.
Doogs if he can be replaced with a younger FA.
Hayes if we can get a half reasonable offer while he still holds together.
I haven’t seen enough of hotton but Allison is a bust and big max whilst improving is miles off it. Trading out some of the other guys makes sense as does just cutting a few.

How’s this story around the poo, something needs to be done about that. His manager should fall on his sword, can’t have morons like that around the club imo.

Surely no one actually thinks we’d get Band 1 Compo for Josh Battle

We have this conversation every year. All Saints players are worth Band 1 even if they are patently not.

As per usual, reality will kick in when we trade him with half his salary retained for a late 3rd round pick.

I think it is very telling that Tigers have what looks like their first shocking year in the last 8 years and the headlines in the footy press are all over them. Barely a mention of the Saints and the mostly shocking years we have had since 1973. The club has a loser culture and a loser reputation. This year is just business as usual. Draft season will be business as usual.

We’ve been caught again by blathering on about being a top 4 side and planning our trading etc on that. Thankfully we’ve moved on but the damage has been done. The older guys who should have been traded out that actually had value are now too old to get the returns we need. The next line coming through like battle are needed firstly for their talent and secondly so we don’t end up with a bunch of kids and no senior players around them.

In the nfl it’s generally accepted that you get the best value and results by trading players a year early rather than a year late. Anyway imo there’s no way we’ll get first round compo for battle so it’s really a moot point, offer him the contract he deserves and get on with planning for next year.

Yep, you just build cliff to fall off if you get rid of all the mid career talent. We are in a constant deficit due to losing spots in multiple drafts to top up with mid career players that didn't work out already.

Parker, Young, Hind, Long, Hunter, Campbell, Weller, Marsh, McKernan, Hanners, Freeman, Rowe, Hill, Howard, Butler, Higgins, Ryder, Jones etc.

Wood, Marshall and Wilkie the success stories. The rest were desperate attempts to hide the daft disasters that we'd already had.

When you look at the Dogs in comparison, they make a lot fewer mistakes and find and develop talent to a much higher standard despite having a similar small club budget.

He's not even his manager. A commercial opportunities manager or something. Just some minor player clown sucking on the tit. Absolute nothing story.

Yeah, I'd be giving Hotton a bit of time to show something. He was potential top 20 pick that drifted out and been injured the whole time.

The problem for us is that we find recruiting much more difficult than most other clubs. We would have the lowest success percentage of any club for both trades and drafting. Most clubs have heaps of Battle level talent. To us he's a rare commodity.

Huge father son team the dogs but yes they had some big hits and it changes everything. What would we look like with the bont and naughton, both of which we could have drafted I believe.

Does Marshall FWD 80% and ruck relief 20% fix some of our structural problems?

Can see him being dangerous and providing some much needed support for Max. Just don’t see it with Membrey and gives time and space for Caminiti for develop further.

Go after a ruckman end of year on the promise of being the 1st string ruck. There a few around that may not cost the farm, via player swap(s) or picks.

I think the question on this is what type of ruckman, and do they make us better as a result?

IMO there are no great tap ruckmen left. The last might have been Nic Nat. Max Gawn is a close as we have now, and even he does plenty of "Marshall clearances". It's all about post-hit out now.

Can't our forwards just be in front of their men at every stoppage? Marshall's clearances rarely sail over heads, rather they drop short.

I'm just wary of the road less travelled compared to some who was objectively judged to be one of the 3 best ruckmen in the league last season and certainly hasn't gotten worse this season.

It would help the forward line, but it would take our best ball winner out of the midfield so we;d have a harder time getting it inside 50.
