You'd be thinking they'll announce it before guernsey presentations.
You would imagine so.
Surely they have a decent idea by now, and shouldn't deprive the players from recieving their new jumpers in front of family.

Exactly. It's little things like the announcement they're being signed and guernsey presentations that have a big impact. However, the club is good in this regard so they'll have a plan. There may be merit holding off on any signatures until after the intraclub.

We'll find out one way another in the next 48hrs imo

He was ready at the end of last year. Very end. If you put in three or four goal performances and have more than fifteen disposals, you're a strong contender.

AJ's game needs to improve around the ball and Reef can do that.

My bold call is that AJ asks for a trade at the end of the season to Melbourne (before the ridiculous calls, I don't think we Taylor leaving for Sydney on our bingo cards).

Given Reef is allegedly still pencilled in to eventually become a mid, I think Ash can still stake a claim.

They're both very different forwards and pre-season form doesn't always translate to season proper form.

Ash at least has some runs on the board in that sense. Reef may earn a Round 1 call up based on pre-season form, but that doesn't mean he holds his spot because if I recall correctly, Reef played a few really solid games as the sub (even with Ash in the side) but just couldn't get it going on the few occasions he played full games.

So we'll see I guess. Given Ash just re-signed fairly recently, I'm assuming he's gonna stick it out

Why should Reef become a mid? He is clearly excelling as a forward. Play him there, let him star. Not everyone can be a mid, even if they want to be one. We have ample of star young midfielders who are better than Reef in Macrae, Allan, likely an SSP.

You're right that the sides may change but I still see Reef holding and if Kreuger stays on the park, even could be considered. When not on the pine, he is a strong forward.

Did I really talk Callow up that much? I must have been desperate for a KF back them. Don't forget though because you wrote off Hogan, coniglio, Ben Brown and a host of others that have gone on and played some brilliant football but you had them cooked. There are others that you wrote off and have since become regular AFL playes but that would just be mean by me if I dug up all your write offs.
I don’t think I wrote off Hogan so much as stated that there’s no way in hell he’d ever return to a football state. Being out of the limelight at GWS has done wonders for him and I don’t think we’d have got that from him at Collingwood.
Brown had 1 ok year at Melbourne and since then has been injured or playing VFL, so not sure how I was wrong there. Did I write off Coniglio or say he wasn’t worth the horrendous contract? Can’t remember.

Reef has traits that suit both forward and midfield and he’s being trained accordingly, he’s definitely spent some time training with mids this preseason in addition to his forward work. He also had a few really dominant games playing mid as a junior in the very small window of opportunities he had.

It’s likely at this point he follows a JDG trajectory of forward>forward mid>mid forward. Whether he ever gets to the full time mid point that Jordy has reached is up for debate, but I don’t think there’s much doubt that the club sees him as a dual positional player in the long term.

Yeah you did but we all make mistakes. Don't stress, I still value your footy knowledge

i'd be happy if the reef gets a regular game this year...same for macrae. I wouldnt be mapping out their futures beyond that, but thats me. Ash johnson sometimes gets 6 kicks and gets 3 goals or nothing. In 15 games last year, he got more than one tackle on 4 occasions. He needs to be consistent.

That’s a good shout and for some it’s worth remembering that JDG was the same age when he broke out in 2018. We also aren’t that far removed from some calling for JDG to remain a full time forward (we were still getting it late in Buckley’s tenure). None of that is to say Reef can hold a candle to JDG as a player at any point of their respective careers, but rather on that specific career path the comparison stacks up.

I wonder if with Murphy they're treating his incident at training like a concussion and taking precautions given his history?
No point in Murph playing any praccy games or anything where he could get hit again. Better off giving dean a crack to show us what he can do.

I know saying this he needs some match fitness but is it worth having him out indefinitely after getting a head knock? I don't think so

Unless I'm misremembering, Reef was recruited as a tall mid and was being worked on to end up there at some point.

A lot of people talked up Callow and he didn't go undrafted for talent reasons. His final few games for Norwood were good and if keeps that up, he could return to the AFL system.

He was up there with different people. Leppa. Some guy in this cap. Not sure who that is. And dekka was there too. Also, if that bent knee is the hammy he injured, wouldn’t bending it like that cause pain?

Not really, no.

Flexing the hip puts your hamstring under mild tension, but flexing the knee takes it off stretch again, so this would be a comfortable position for someone with a hamstring strain.
