Reckon out of those training, Josh Eyre would have to be the standout favourite for one of the spots at this point of the pre-season, as long as his body holds up.
The real standout this morning.
Come post xmas, he'll have 1 more month to prove his worth.
Eyre apparent you say?

“One of a dozen players training with the squad in the hope of landing a spot on the club’s list, Josh Eyre fitted in seamlessly into a midfield role in some drills and has impressed the Pies so far through pre-season.”

Quality journalism there. 6 players is now a dozen, up from half a dozen, and the key defender Eyre is supposedly fitting seamlessly in to the midfield… :drunk:

Code sport is absolute trash, not surprised 😂

Agree.

So what you’re really saying is that draft is 20/80 beyond pick 25……and that we are better off going other avenues?
Generally the best option, all things considered, is the preferred option.

The premier football departments, and talent scouts, no longer have a huge advantage over the rest. That is, pick 45 really is pick 45.

Doesn’t mean you cease trying … but …. other avenues have to be explored. That has always been the case to a large degree, now just more ‘transparent’.

I don't think I've heard Ed Allen's name mentioned in dispatches here until now. He is certainly a big unit.
The challenge with Ed is that he has only been big for a relatively short time, following a massive growth spurt, so he may develop a bit slower. I am trusting our patience will be rewarded.

Saw a sticker on a street sign today that said. Don’t read the ******* Herald Sun 😂
Honestly all the news outlets are garbage these days.

If I was to pick solely off reading training reports this week I’d say Eyre and Bytel have two spots.

Sofranidis seems a way back and Sullivan seems behind Bytel as is Hustwaite . It’s up to Teakle I think to demand the third spot.

If he doesn’t I reckon we’ll just go with the two.

Eyre & Bytel seem to be the stand outs this week..Sullivan & Teakle/Eyre last week.

I suppose the 35k+ per kid paid by parents has no impact on it either

And that is if you believe $$ = good grounds work and curation. Seen plenty of well paid ones stuff it up
Yeah but without our taxes they could only afford to pay the wages of teachers and would not have the lush grounds and swimming pools that state schools would never be able to have. So Wesley should be open for any Pie fans wanting to attend.

No they are not. The ABC, SBS and the Guardian newspaper still provide quality journalism. It is the Murdoch press that deserves the label 'garbage'. It is a criminal organisation endorsed by the fact that in Britain, several executive's were jailed. Murdoch is a shit stain on humanity. Unfair to lump everyone else into his basket.

Sooooo, back to training.

Apologies if I missed it, but was Krueger on modified training today? If so, do we know why.

Johnny Noble looked ferocious today in the footage I've seen. So much admiration for this guy & how he's handled what happened during the finals.

I know many have said Sof seems like the invisible man, but does anyone else ever notice Richards? He never gets mentioned & I just never see him in any footage.

Heard one of the coaches in Jen’s videos praise Joe after he laid a really good tackle. But yeah other than that not much. Could have been moved into defence?

The invisible man… could be a handy concept in the midfield.

Pre-season training: Friday, December 15th.

Location
: Wesley College, Glen Waverley.

I had never been through a private school before, but gotta say, I was impressed by their facilities and turf. But I suppose with the amount of money they get put into schools such as that, they should.
But the ovals were impressive, it seems to be two combined into one vast ground; to the point where the players were spaced out around and was hard to keep track of everyone so I just focused on the groups closer to me --

Players:

JDG
IQ
Maynard
Mitchell
JDaicos
Shultz
Noble
DeMattia
DC
Kreuger
Allan
Frampton
Macrae
TJ
Steene
Sidey
Hill
Ryan
Crisp
Reef
Murphy
Richards
Beau
WHE
NDaicos
HH
Markov
Howe
Begg
Johnson
Dean
Cox

*No Lippa, Moore, Jamie.
Checkers was around, then he went into the change rooms didn't return until post session. I was told he hurt his calf, but he seemed in good spirits, so probably very minor.

Ryan ended the session with an icepack on his knee, but don't think its's anything too serious. He was walking around post training well enough, so maybe a bit of precaution if he got a knock.

*Maynard is now sick of the bike, so he had his first running session post surgery this morning, it's a good first step forward on the way to recovery
Others in rehab was IQ, who did some running with Kreuger, IQ also played kick to kick with some little kids that were around. He'll be right after xmas break.

The Mcstay role is down to two players, which was fairly obvious from today's session.
Johnson v Reef
Who went head to head in multiple contested drills v some defenders (Frampton, Eye) and I don't think it's clear who will get the role. I imagine both players will get opportunities through the year.
Reef was really good. Very aggressive, compeitive and attacked the contest; which fly applauded him for.

Fy got involved in this F50 drill, which was meant to be run by Selwood, but Fly got really vocal around it, encouraging and applauding Reef.
These drills are meant to bring out your compeitive side, and all players did well; forwards and defenders.

I couldn't see what was going around on the other side of the ground, with the mids; but I was told by a watcher, that Bytel looked really good.
Reckon it's between him and Sullivan.

There was a match play of sorts but done in a different way, where the rucks was Cox v Begg
Sidey v Allan
Hustwaite v Fin
Jordy v Mitchell
Nick seemed to be loitering by himself
Noble then took Nick's place at the centre bounce, hovering over the pack.

Fin got involved a lot, and got a lot of the ball, whether its winning the ball, or providing transition up the ground, kicked a nice shooting shot toward Steene who was up forward being manned by Frampton.

Noble had a spring to his step, aggressive with lightning speed as he runs up the ground, even does a bouncing run up the middle of the ground toward the forward line. You don't often see that during training.

In one of the first drills, it was 6 forwards v 6 defenders, and Eyre's contested marking was really noticeable. He's got some good hands, but reckon that's something we knew from the vfl this past season.
He was really impressive. His contest work was great, showing the compeitiveness. And it's weird to think he is the same age as reef (same 2002 draft with both have late birthday), although reef has more afl experience, with Eyre never did debut with Essendon.

I had a chat to him post training, and he's a nice kid. We talked about the vfl season. The good win v Casey; and the poor final v Willy; he said... "We didn't look ourselves, did we?" No mate, it was awful. I wished him the best and said I hope he wins a spot.

Other aspects of training they did was some marking, stoppage and midfield drills.

The session seemed to be more focused on compeitveness. There were some Wesley students watching training, and Fly got them in the huddle after training and got them to give feedback how they thought the session went, and who they thought impressed. One of them mentioned Charlie Dean, he thought looked good.

What comes out then is the premiership cup. They all then get a photo taken with the cup. Then the cup gets passed around to the fans where they could walk around with it, and take photos with it. I got another one. Lifting the cup, it's much heavier than you imagined it to be.

Eyre said they go back to the club January 11, which is a thurs, so training probably resumes the friday, or the following Monday.

I'm trying not to clog too much of my personal account, so I'm gonna split my videos through that and this other account I made.

Lol, not surprising Charlie was mentioned as one of the best trainers by a student. He went to school at Wesley & coached their footy team.
