USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

Since the rise of the FAAFO and FU and Facts Dont Care About Your Feelings crowd I can see how this appeals

It would also appeal to those of us oldies confused by the new language required to streamline what we say (and good on this need)

But the heart of it all is built on bullying and lies and the desire to say whatever you want and then cry about the consequences.

And thats the part that confuses me - if you dont care about peoples reactions to your outlook then crying victim is the last thing you should be doing

No they don’t want anyone else to push back on anything they say or do ever, they are correct by default.

Mika on Morning Joe despises Trump (obsessed one might say).

Maddow although also not a fan of Trump but her research is accurate and has broken a few stories that have been taken up by MSM.

Anderson Cooper on CNN is also pretty good.

I can't think of one from FOX since Wallace left.
Cooper is OK. I think John Berman is probably my favourite on CNN. Or at least, he's my favourite of those I would watch regularly four years ago and is still there. Back then I was known to have the TV on for large parts of the day, even if I wasn't watching it. So I'd see a bit of Cooper, a bit of Cuomo and then a bit of Lemon. The latter two could be entertaining, but it was obvious they had tickets on themselves. Maybe Cooper did (does) too, but he hides it better.

Nowadays I'm just watching at the end of the day, so it's generally the breakfast shows I get to see a bit of. Hence I've reacquainted myself, a little, with Berman, but mostly it's Morning Joe. The guy that I guess the show is named after is a

Certainly interesting and I imagine explains a number of posters in these threads.

From that that article:

"He talks like me or you … he's not a [typical] politician, and that's what we need."

Alan does not fixate on Trump's policies; instead, favouring him for his personality and bravado.
"It's not necessarily policies, it's more just getting behind the man, the movement … the hope he is bringing."

"He never admits to weakness, he never admits to error. I think there are people within the community who see that as terribly authentic and very strong … other politicians might apologise, they might stumble — they might appear to show shame."
"He's a fighter. He's courageous and he's challenging the establishment and I think that's a really large part of his appeal."
Surely SBS have pulled that from The Onion.

Is there a chance Trump wins the presidency but Democrats win control of the House blocking him at every turn ala Johnson with Biden?

Yeah I like Berham too but that morning show is hard to watch with the set they have. Walking in and out of set. I like the two women two but prefer them sitting down at a desk.

Agree on Cuomo and Lemon you mention.

Glad I am not the only one that watches a fair bit if US cable.:)

Yes, very much so. Dems probably feeling quite good about winning the House back given the polling over the last couple of days. 538 have it 51-49 chance favouring Republicans at the moment.

Given that its going to be a close vote - roughly 50% of the vote each why does it seem that about 90% of the posters on here would vote for Harris? Could it be that people on that side of politics are much more active on social media or is there another reason?
Suspect it is that Australia is where most of the posters here live where things like universal health care, abortion rights and honouring election results are kind of a big thing

I know I know but couldn't help myself.

FOX this morning talking about Lady GAGA, She is voting for Harris but her father is voting for Trump. So wrong, she should listen to her dad. Lady GAGA is 38, married with a daughter.

The female ex Judge (she has had so much work on her face) if you couldn't hear her, you would have to look carefully if her lips moved. She was saying Harris wants to take health care away from everyone.

Harris campaigning with celebs not a word about policies, no-one knows what her polices are.

This whilst showing Trump supporter on screen wearing T-shirt, Trump v Tramp.
This the kind of BS that runs through Fox and other conservative media all the time. This is why we still have people voting for Trump. This is the make-believe bubble they exist in. Add in their SM scrolls which will be nothing but the same from the algorithm.
If Fox etal played with a straight bat, there's be a lot less problems in the world.

I pretty much agree with all of that, and been thinking that for a while.

And if I’m wrong so be it, the people here excited by that can enjoy the fascism and barrack for it to spread here.

The post at least gave FireKrakouer something to chuckle over. He'll need to hold onto that festive spirit in coming days.

This thread needs to think seriously about how it handles the post-election trauma of its strumpets for Trump.

Rest assured, I'll be thinking of them.

The "terminally online" vote seems to have consistently leaned ~80% left. I remember twitter polls before the Brexit vote and how people just couldn't believe how wrong they were after the fact.

I think it's at least partly due to the city / rural split. More office/WFH folks on screens all day in the former group, more people doing physical / outdoorsy stuff in the latter.
Brexit is a good example of where one side were lied to massively and got sucked in.

Or great reply by yourself to dodge my question. Maybe I missed something what did Trump doing his presidency that negative impacted Australia.
Blatant lies about facts which were easily disproven (inauguration crowd, saying he won popular vote, “good people on both sides” created the impression of instability; reinforced by the stories of him sitting on arse or golfing all day and not making decisions. At least that time he had some competent staff; this time there seeems to be chosen on their loyalty to trump (was going to be much more crude but restrained myself)

Is there a chance Trump wins the presidency but Democrats win control of the House blocking him at every turn ala Johnson with Biden?
He can still do considerable damage with foreign policy (by failing to act), executive orders (de-regulation), sabotaging agencies like consumer protection, EPA, FBI, Dept of Edu, and putting through many more pro corporate, religious zealot ideologues as judges.

Not to mention having the reins again if they lose in 2028.

Like the auto electrician near us..big Trump flags a massive turn off

oh damn, dude couldn't separate his private life from his business.

I reckon if my favourite cafe was bought out by a furry and they decked it out in animal dildos I'd probably stop frequenting it too.

Its not hard to maintain a professional customer friendly business, and then go home to yiff in your MAGA hat all night. But you know what they say, Trump is the idiot's vision of a smart man, so his fan club would have a pretty big disadvantage in business.

Exactly you are male but you want to tell women what to do with their bodies.
I find that really..creepy and ….weird.
I didn't read what the poster you replied to posted as he's on my ignore list but creepy and weird sounds right.

Is there a chance Trump wins the presidency but Democrats win control of the House blocking him at every turn ala Johnson with Biden?
No.

If Trump wins he'll win the house. The gerrymandering of the house means the Dems have to win by ~4% nationally to win the house. If they do that they win the presidency as well.
