USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

Just curious. The US polls are only counted if a person picks up their phone ..assume landline. With so many people no longer having one wonder if they skews voting results?

Throw in who the polls come from, which way they lean, it's all pointless to follow most of them.

Harris made a 5 minute speech last night and I checked to see if FOX were carrying it. They were so I watched and after that they had one guest to comment on it. It was Kash Patel, who is such a creepy guy. Forget about meeting him at night, daylight would be scary enough.

There he was decked out in Trump gear, said it was all lies, then went on to say all the good things Trump has said and done for the military.

Whether you like CNN or not at least they have both a Republican and Democrat comment.

I don't know about that.

Look at all the Jesus Is Coming signs you see around the place. They've been saying this for two thousand years.

(And here's the really rum thing - then when some cult is bold enough to predict a specific date that Jesus is coming, and the date comes and goes without an appearance from the great one - guess what happens? They all still keep on Believing.)

No surprise that evangelical Christians make up a big cohort of the support for Trump. In both cases, all ya got to do is Believe.
I think we have to look at the why. The average Joe is struggling and has reach the end of thier fuse and want change. Trump being a populist just says what people want to hear.

The religious nutters just hangers on and see him as a useful idiot to get what they want.

Eventually though people realise they get conned and move on to the next.

The consequence of roe vs wade being overturned ?
Or it could be this:

And this:

"Among women 40 to 44, the birth rate has risen by 4% and the number of births by 6% since 2021, according to the CDC report. Birth rates among women 45 and older increased for the first time since 2015 and the number of births increased by a whopping 12%."

Birth defects like congenital heart issues etc are directly correlated to maternal age.

Many polls nowadays use mobiles and a text-to-link service where people get a text and fill out an online form.

I think polls are still useful and a good gauge of the electorate, but they have always had a 2/3+pt margin of error. So while they maybe be directionally correct, they are pretty useless for states that are always within the margin.

Well then what are they waiting for
Yeh we've heard this one a million times. I'm calling bs

In 2016 there was talk of the Russian pee tape
In 2020 there was talk of video of trump saying racial slurs on camera
Now this one.

Until someone credible starts running with it (and no "Republicans against Trump" on twitter is not a credible source) I wouldn't pay too much attention to this one.

I was contacted on my mobile yesterday by Roy Morgan. (They are conducting survey of consumer confidence in Australia).

I am not registered anywhere so I assume they just pick numbers at random.

However I am not sure how much use they are if not the same people are followed up during elections to see if any change. For me not enough information is obtained on those that are being polled.

The story is out there. Sounds like major media orgs can’t verify though. Unless someone gets their hands on the video and it’s verified I think this might just be rumour.

Good old Mark Halperin. The journalist who was sacked for repeated sexual assault allegations. The journalist who goes out of his way to praise Trump. It's been kinda sad but also funny watching him trying to get back into the media landscape the last couple of years by doing stuff on Twitter. He hasn't been welcomed back into the mainstream press.

As much as he's a dick, he and John Heilemann used to host the best political show ever on Bloomberg, and they've written a couple of great books on the 2008 and 2012 races.

Him doing stuff on Newsmax tells you all you need to know.

So why haven’t they realised yet they’re being conned? Trump and his cronies aren’t even trying to hide it.

He sits down with his mate, Elon, and congratulates him for threatening to sack striking workers.

He boasts about how he didn’t like to pay overtime.

His record of not paying contractors is out there and easy to find.

He tells workers in factories that they’re being paid too much and that children could do their jobs.

When he cut taxes during his first term, he did it for the rich, not the working class.

His disdain for the working class man (or women) is out in the open. So why can’t they see it?

Because the damage has been done yet.
When they personally start suffering the consequences that's when they start questioning

I also don't get this talk about Cheney Snr. I had no idea of why he is disliked on here and not sure that the fact he endorsed her will make much difference to Democrats and or a small number of Republicans.

Do voters really go back that far in voting today?

Dick Cheney left office in 2009 (in most voters’ historical memory) with a 13% approval rating. He was so loathed because he was a chief architect of the Iraq War and knowingly fabricated the claim of weapons of mass destruction, that was used as the basis of the need to go to war. He was instrumental in initiating the Bush Administration’s support of torture, indefinite detention of innocents, and the NSA’s illegal spying on American citizens. Many of these erosions of civil liberties were particularly damaging for Arab Americans, who often bore the brunt of this horrific overreach.

He was also a key part in the subversion of the electoral will of the people in the 2000 election, a successful version of January 6, which makes the claims to him being a champion of democracy all the more hollow.

The 2018 movie Vice starring Christian Bale tells the story of his career in a pretty accessible way, if you wanted to find out more. It’s on Netflix.

I have since read all about Cheney on these forums but don't get the relevance of him in 2024.

I think that Liz Cheney is very brave to do what she did on the Jan 6 committee and advocating for 'not Trump'.

Her career as a politician is finished as far as the majority of Republicans are concerned, so good on her putting country before party and political ambition.

Left office 15 years ago, means that a non-engaged voter would have to be more than 35 to personally remember him and I would suggest they already know their voting intentions.

Those under the age of 30 who have just registered to vote would only know him as a Republican VP of the old style Reagan, Bush (both 1 and 11) Republican when America was "Great"

Because he convinced them that brown people are the cause of their woes.

Well there was the grab em by the pussy video which did come out in 2016.

I just think it will make no difference regardless. People who will vote for him simply don’t care what he does. He could machine gun down one of his rally crowds and I still don’t think it would make a difference.

Yeah and a lot of people just have become engaged in politics since the trump era began.

Thing is they see Harris with Cheney it’s just her with another establishment (“deep state”) figure, that is how it hurts her.

It gives further credence to the idea that MAGA and Trump are a complete break from the past and Harris and the Dems represent the old uni party status quo.

Now MAGA do represent a break from the past but a very bad one, replace a flawed democracy with fascists isn’t exactly a winning move.

I agree with her on that and views on Trump and American democracy, but pretty much nothing else.

Sure take her endorsement but don’t make her front and centre of your campaign.

As I have said the Dems need to get out of their heads neocon disaffected republicans are their friends.

Sexual allegations with sources (shamelessly stolen from a Reddit post:

Reminder that Donald Trump was found to be a sexual abuser by a jury of his peers in May 2023. Then, when Trump twice appealed the ruling claiming he was “only” a sexual abuser and not rapist, the judge twice clarified that he was a rapist according to the common and federal law definitions of rape.

Trump has a long standing relationship with Epstein and Maxwell that involved trafficking women, using his clubs as recruitment centers:

But people will vote for him anyway. They either want to get away with it like him or like what he says because he says the quiet part out loud. And for some the Dems are the monsters for... reasons
