USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

RCP poll aggregator showing the Donald in front for the popular vote. Bookies down to $1.45 on him. The amount of people asking me if I've "called it" yet, it's actually nuts. I won't do so until election day but at this point it would require a miracle for Kamala to win unfortunately.
He may just slightly win the swing states but no way he's winning the popular vote. No way.

Never heard of comedian

Mmm

Trump's response to every controversial moment. "Never heard of them". Even though he's part of the 'entertainment' for his own rally.

One has to wonder whether Trump supporters in Australia think that our health system and medicare is a good system or that the US version is or will be better under Trump. I mean they have been waiting for 8 years now for Trump health care plan.

I suppose crash the economy by 90% then get 500% growth the low info voters will think “410% gain” when it’s actually 40% loss

(The math - start with 100, lose 90 have 10, have 500% growth you are at 60)

Oh look it’s misrepresenting what he said - clearly said the demonisation of Latino’s is garbage

I guess if the shoe fits though....

lol that’s not clear.

He misspoke, which is to be expected, and whoever wrote the speech and didn’t realised “his supporter’s demonisation” is mildly complicated enough to have him potentially slip up should’ve known better.

To quote Nate Silver, “The fact that he can't consistently speak clearly to a point of reasonable comprehension might also seem to imply that he shouldn't be the President of the United States”. But people were content to replace him as candidate and leave him to wander around in his dressing gown as President for the next few months.

But, of course, it’s pretty disingenuous for Trump and his people to say he definitely meant to say it, when this is a man who said “We beat Medicare” just a couple of months ago.

Maybe you're just not very good at searching. There's a bunch of videos of Lopez's segment that get returned.

It's not as if they tried the search as that wouldn't fit the narrative. Far better to push the MAGA stance by taking the word of another dishonest MAGA peanut and spreading the lie.

Someone just doesn’t get it
No you dont get it. Your hatred of Trump blinds you to the fact that yes it was about Trump's wall but the punchline was about Mexicans being 'thieves'.

It's truly astounding you cant see that.

And yes the Puerto Rico joke was bad and getting a roast comedian on who deals in offence was a really poor choice.

Jokes only work if people understand the punchline and I doubt many don't know that Puerto Rico has a huge landfill problem after having to clean up after consecutive disasters. I didnt know and most people still don't which is what makes it such a bad ill-timed joke.

Maybe both jokes have a place somewhere but not at political rallies.

On BF we can’t seem to find the “centred” trump supporter who can articulate why they are voting for trump. It could be that the reason is really culture war related but they don’t feel it’s safe to say that here.
I self identify as a centrist which gets me quite a bit of crap on SRP from being a “clapping lefty” to a right winger in disguise, as well as being structurally racist (which I own and say so what? Not feasible or reasonable for me to change that as the standard to not be structurally racist seems unattainable) I figure if I cop abuse from both sides I’m doing ok

Well if you’re centrist by Australian standards that makes you still to the left of the democrats in the US.

It's petal, you clown.

And as we all know Trump himself uses offensive language and comments at every rally. Nothing to see here. It won't affect the result either way.

May have been updated or the Mexican joke is being highlighted more but yesterday when I searched for 'Mexican joke harris rally' it only bought back pages about the Puerto Rico joke. Same on YT. Just seemed odd.

Who are the social forces driving fascism in America?
Many here will attribute the responsibility to all the impoverished and socially deprived voters who have decided to vote for Trump because of their despair with economic hardship and the refusal of the Biden administration to respond to any of their social needs.

These posters will, as usual, refer to the ""moronic US working class" as the willing enablers of fascism.

However, the real forces driving fascism in America are not American workers. Rather, it is a swathe of billionaires who have decided that their interests will be best protected with a fascist in the White House.

Trump is not some individual megalomaniac who somehow going to impose his will for fascism singlehandedly on an entire nation. Behind Trump stands a vast section of the corporate and financial oligarchy who are pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into his campaign to either win the election, or stealing it through a combination of intimidation, violence and a multitude of specious legal arguments to hold up the certification of votes.

To this end, his nexus of extreme right wing billionaire donors have formed the formation of "Electoral Integrity Network". What the Republican fascist allies of Trump mean by "election integrity" is a massive effort to suppress likely Democratic votes, flood the courts with specious legal claims, delay state and local certification of vote tallies, and mobilize far-right “poll watchers” in Democratic strongholds to threaten and intimidate election officials and voters.

Trump is backed by many of the most wealthy billionaires in the US. Trump is not an individual phenonomen. He represents very powerful class interests which are opposed to democracy in any form.

Trump’s agitation against the vote is not just a personal vendetta, but part of a coordinated, multi-million-dollar effort to install Trump in the White House as president-dictator regardless of the vote totals. Last week, the Wall Street Journal published a lengthy report titled: “The Secretive Billionaire Network Funding ‘Stop the Steal’ 2.0.”

“his [Trump's] allies have spent the last four years laying the groundwork for a more organized, better funded and far broader effort to contest the outcome-a Stop the Steal 2.0-if the vote doesn’t go his way.”

The article goes on to mention some of those involved: Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein (Uline Packaging) - who have, since 2020, donated $34 million to the pro Trump "election integrity network", Patrick Byrne (former Overstock CEO) who has donated $60 million to "election integrity operations" (by his own public declaration), Hobby Lobby founder David Green, Betsy Devos and her husband Richard, (founders of Amway. Betsy is the sister of Erik Prince, whose mercenary contractor company Blackwater was responsible for the massacre of 17 Iraqi civilians in 2007).

These are the social forces who stand behind Trump, and are backing him in to establish a fascistic dictatorship which will use military violence to repress the inevitable opposition that will explode in the working class against fascist policies.

In contrast, the Democrats invariably attempt to portray Trump as just one madman, an insane fascist lunatic who somehow, by himself, threatens to overturn democracy. They do this in order to cover up from the working class the fact that the threat of fascism is enormous because it is being driven by some of the most economically powerful social interests.

The Democrats would much prefer to accommodate themselves to a Trump fascistic dictatorship than risk igniting a mass social rebellion in the working class.

It was a Walz rally I believe, but may have been due to recent searches being low and more videos of it being cut in recent days as Trump defenders bring it up.

Correct. So Trump should grow a pair and admit that to the public that it wasn't ok. Leadership is often admiting errors. Like I tell my year 2s 'own your mistakes and behaviour'.

Was that before or after you searched for Mexican Homer avatar?

Mexican comedian making a joke about Mexicans.

White comedian calling an island inhabited by brown folk, a floating island of garbage.

Completely comparable.
Yeah, but I think you're being unfair.

This was Lopez' first ever instance of a joke that might be about Mexicans or Mexican-Americans over his career.
