USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

I said it doesn't have any real meaning, and that's no less accurate after your reply. You can define what stupid means, or what ridiculous means, or what a cold day means, even though the precise usage is subjective.

Right-wing outlets and politicians like to use 'woke' as though it has an exact meaning, which it doesn't. It's used as some kind of catch-all for 'anything I don't like that I think is socially progressive or liberal'.
Agree to disagree I guess.

Even though I'd be the first to agree that the trans discourse is a minority issue of minority issues, out of all proportion to the number of people it actually affects, I don't think you can blame Harris for that one. She wasn't exactly shouting "TRANS RIGHTS!!!" from the rooftops.

As Jon Stewart said -

“I only have one problem with the woke theory,” Stewart said. “I just didn’t recall seeing any Democrats running on woke shit.

“And don’t forget about Kamala Harris. It’s not like she was exactly waving around her NPR tote bag,” Stewart said ahead of a clip of the vice-president saying: “I have a Glock.”

“They acted like Republicans for the last four months,” Stewart bemoaned.

Yeah, this was the Democrats trying to run a post-woke election.

They abandoned class politics long ago and embraced identity politics as their key point of ideological organising. Some conservative Democrats are saying that it’s time to dump that but they can’t articulate for what, because they clearly don’t want to move back to class politics (as demonstrated by Sanders’ campaigns for the presidency).

Well, both. There is a reason the GOP are able to credibly accuse her of being a woke warrior. Because she is. Or at least, she was.
Going quiet on all thing culture-wars for a few months in the lead up to this election is not satisfactory evidence that they’ve exorcised their demons. Given their track record, they really need to renounce all of their race/gender/sexuality rubbish, otherwise the best they can hope for is smart/normal people giving them their vote in spite of all that.
But already we see the excuse making.

The Supreme Court could well overturn its previous support for marriage equality. The Republicans think they’re onto a winner in demonising trans people and are legislating some pretty awful stuff. And then we have things such as Trump’s promise of mass deportations etc.

I think empty repetition of phrases and scolding well meaning people for their ignorance is a fool’s errand, but I also don’t think the Democrats should (politically or ethically) throw people under the bus to avoid a culture war. Yes, their primary focus needs to be on convincing people that they will make their lives better during a time of general economic hardship, but they also can’t sit quiet while minority groups see their civil rights go backwards.

I think the kernel of truth in there is especially around the time Hilary was running she was leaning into the "me woman, me deserve president, me smashing patriarchy rarrrrh! Bernie Bros racist cos bros".

The issue is they haven't really replaced that narrative with anything substansive to help peoples material conditions. So they go republican lite on their messaging on the border, immigrants, trans issues etc and just give sorta wishy washy solutions which might kinda help your material conditions, but also things are currently good so STFU.

The issue with the identity politics messaging is it comes across as pandering in a lot of cases, while they still cosy up to the donor class and reign hell on Gaza and continue the same foreign policy as always.

I think generally the culture under Trump became more performatively liberal (or woke, to use the pejorative). I think it was an over-course correction, and very much the HR view of politics that the Democrats (and professional class who comprise it) resonate with, but is totally foreign to a lot more blue collar people.

I’d be curious to know what % of the GDP/taxes etc the Democrat and Republican states each contribute to their economy.

If I was a rusted on Democratic state I’d be tempted to break off and secede from the USA - it’s about to be run by lunatics and I wouldn’t want my hard earned going into their pockets.

The leftists dont want a world they can't complain about, or complain about on other's behalf.

It's why they want to keep minorities as minorities. Not just Americans.

Yes as economically their masters (the donors) don’t really disapprove of Trumps agenda so they have to get onto performative rage about other “woke” stuff, as they don’t really want to do much to help the working class either.

First time around he had no idea how government and ppl around him , now he has psychophants and understands more
First time around he was surrounded by bewildered republicans. This time around he's surrounded by creepy schitzoids from all sorts of weird right wing internet subcultures.
